Review: I?m having a strange experience with a man named Fran D[redacted] who claims to be a [redacted] Distributor. Fran installed my stove two years ago and installed two chimney liners for me two years ago. I was pleased with his work. He was knowledgable, courteous and reliable.

My stove stopped working recently and I called Fran for help. He suggested he come over to clean my stove and chimney and assess the problem. The day he did the work he brought a pretty, 20-ish year old girl with him who he explained he was ?helping?. It was clear they knew each other well and went out a lot together. I thought it was odd but he?d been reliable in the past so I overlooked it.

Fran recommended ordering over $300 in parts and asked me to mail him a personal check up front. I thought that was odd but I trusted him and mailed the check.

We made an appointment for the stove repair. Fran cancelled three times due to car trouble. He gave lengthy explanations about the car repair and was animated and loud on the phone and seemed somehow mad at me. This really seemed odd.

The day he came for repair he was very agitated. He said he was having a "really bad day? and almost turned around and went back home. During the repair work he spoke loudly to his helper with lots of constant profanity throughout the two hours he worked. Myself and my five children were in the next room. My driveway was littered with numerous cigarette butts. He yelled at me quite a bit before he left about needing another fitting for a pipe and left saying he?d just come back when he could and did not want to set a ?fancy appointment time.? At this point I was trying to say as little as possible and wondering what had happened to the man I hired two years ago.

He did return (dropped in) and fitted the pipe. He hadn?t started up the stove but clearly wanted to be paid for his service call. I asked if he could start up the stove. It did not start. He was obviously very aggravated. He called [redacted] tech support and found he had detached a small green air tube and re-attached it. The stove started. I paid him and was frankly very relieved to be done. He yelled at me in his agitated way about who-knows-what before leaving.

Guess what. The stove doesn?t re-start. I called him to ask if he could call [redacted] tech support to trouble shoot. I said I?d be happy to call but I thought he?d understand what they said. At any rate suffice to say he isn?t interested in helping.

The part I thought you?d like to know is that this man yells at clients from the beginning (just normally agitated), uses lots of profanity in regular conversation (even in front of children), brings pretty young girls to appointments, demands personal checks just to buy parts, arrives disheveled, doesn?t have a running car, cancels numerous appointments, trys to be paid and leave without checking his work and covers work sites with cigarette butts. I wouldn?t want him representing my company.Desired Settlement: I paid Mr. D[redacted] a total of $420 for parts and labor for repair of my stove. He said $150 was the labor portion. Since my pellet stove does not run, I think the money should be returned. I have no way of knowing whether the parts he had me buy were defective.
