Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that the response would not resolve my complaint For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear belowThe company, Mr Handyman, did not respond to a couple of my major complaints in their response(1) The materials being billed for $when they actually only costs $(2) Most importantly, they did not respond to the fact that they do not appear to be Revdex.com accredited as it claims on their website I would never have hired them if I knew thatI did ask them to “stop wasting my time” The technician failed to write down several of the credit card numbers and also wrote down the wrong credit card type He made that mistake, not me I tried to pay them, and he failed on his end Then I got a call to say the card had not went through I called back to try to pay them There was no one available for me to pay; so, they said someone would call me back Basically, a game of phone tag when all I really wanted was to move on from this terrible transaction At that point, I felt that I needed to report this business’s incompetenceI will give them my credit card information (for the second time) if items (1) & (2) are addressed I do not appreciate being accused of not holding up my end when it is the technician’s fault for grossly messing up my credit card number Regards, [redacted] ***

Last December, I contacted Mr. Handyman based on HomeAdvisor’s list of appliance repair recommendations. When they called me, I was given 3-5 minute spiel about how professional they were, their minimum 10-year experience and the background checks they perform on their professionals.
I was enthusiastic about them because my clothes dryer had be going downhill for months to a point it screeched so loud , we could not stand being in the house when it was on. That same day, Terri (?) showed up promptly for the appointment. Once here, he pushed 2-3 buttons on the dryer and, in less than 1 minute, said that I should call someone else, like Sears, because they did know about appliances. When I confusingly asked him then why he was here, he said that he " was doing me a favor " that he was leaving. He mentioned that we was going to tell his company that I wasn't home and that if they called me I should lie about it. Well they did call me, they said someone was outside my house ringing the doorbell and that nobody was answering, I said that was not true, and in 10 minutesTerri appeared again.
He "warned" me that he was going to have to take the dryer apart to fix it, which I replied that he was the expert and not I, and that he should do what he needed to. An hour later (they charge by the hour plus an visit fee) he said it was ready. When I turned the dryer on, the screech was exactly the same, he then was actually was trying to convince me that he didn't hear anything. Since there were other workers in the house doing other projects, he couldn't keep on trying to wiggle his way out. He then called his boss, took it apart again and, after another hour I went in and asked when he thought he would be done and most importantly if he had found what the problem was; he had no answer. I had to leave the house but left someone home to call me before he left to make sure the dryer was fixed. After 3 hours of no progress, I called Eric at the office and said that I was getting very concerned that Terri was still working on the dryer and that it was going to be very expensive, he called me back after the speaking with Terri and told me that actually, the screech was normal and there was nothing to do (the nerve of these people is incredible). When I very casually asked then why was that not mentioned 3 hours earlier and before taking the machine apart twice... I got no good answer. We went back and forth with various calls , the person I left at home said the noise was the same, Eric called and said Terri would leave and that they were going to charge me only the visit fee and that the dryer was almost noise free. Out of desperation, because the person I left at home had to leave, I agreed, which was an error.
When I got home the noise was exactly the same. The next day I called them and asked to speak with the manager, who I think is actually the owner; James ([redacted] ?). It took various calls for him to call me back. When he did, I quickly learned why that business operates the way it does; James is an intimidating and verbally abusive person with no sense of customer experience who was so rude I could not keep a conversation with him. I was charged $140.00, the dryer was not fixed and I was never told what the problem was.

(1) Worker arrived 4 hours later than scheduled. MR.HANDYMAN RESPONSE: Customer was called and told that the technician was going to be late, at that time, the...

customer had the option of rescheduling to another date and time that he preferred. (2) Worker left to get materials for the job. This took nearly 2 hours (I was paying by the hour). Materials picked up from [redacted] which is 15 minutes away from residence. Very unreasonable time frame. MR.HANDYMAN RESPONSE: Customer’s home is 20 minutes away from Menard’s. The technician went into the store researched the material needed to complete the homeowner’s project, and purchased the materials. The technician couldn’t quickly run into the store and run back out he had to look for the right material, color, dimensions, size, etc therefore it took him some time to locate what was needed to complete the job correctly. The technician drove back from the store to the home which took 20 mins. (3) Worker said it was too late in the day to do any "handyman" work, which is why the company was hired. MR.HANDYMAN RESPONSE: When our technician came back he realized that it would be dark soon so he explained to the customer that it would be best to schedule another day to complete the work instead of trying to complete it in the dark when he would not be able to ensure it was done properly. (4) Materials billed for $120. I later discovered materials only cost $40 from [redacted]. Gross overcharge here. MR.HANDYMAN RESPONSE: We do have a markup fee for picking up the materials for our customers, it is not a 962% mark up as the customer stated. The customer has exaggerated on the price of the materials and markup. (5) I selected this company based on its logo of being Revdex.com accredited. According the Revdex.com's website, they are not. If this is true, then that is false advertising. I would not have selected this company without the accreditation. After hourly fees (which was an unreasonable time), materials (which were a gross overcharge), and service fees (no handyman service performed) the bill was $385. Essentially, I ended up being charged $385 for $40 worth of material (nearly a 962% markup). All of this after wasting my time by arriving very late. MR.HANDYMAN RESPONSE: Customer knew that we worked on a time and material basis. Our technician investigated the problem and began working on the solution. He went to the store to get the materials needed to complete the job. Due to the time of day, it was determined that the work could not be completed with 100% accuracy.  Customer was charged for time incurred while onsite investigating the problem, the time it took to get materials, and our mark up for the materials. With that said, this customer has not made any payment for the services that we provided. He has taken the materials that we purchased for him and has not made any plans to repay our company for purchasing the materials. We have tried to collect payment and offer customer a discount for the work but he continuously replies back with the statement “stop wasting his time.” He has also stated he does not want us to come back to complete the work for him. In summary, we went to the customer’s home, investigated his project, bought the materials needed to complete the project and the customer has taken the materials and have not paid us plus he does not want us to come back to complete the work. We entered into a contract with the customer and he is not holding up his end.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that the response would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
The company, Mr Handyman, did not respond to a couple of my major complaints in their response.
(1)    The materials being billed for $120 when they actually only costs $40.
(2)    Most importantly, they did not respond to the fact that they do not appear to be Revdex.com accredited as it claims on their website.  I would never have hired them if I knew that.
I did ask them to “stop wasting my time”.  The technician failed to write down several of the credit card numbers and also wrote down the wrong credit card type.  He made that mistake, not me.  I tried to pay them, and he failed on his end.  Then I got a call to say the card had not went through.  I called back to try to pay them.  There was no one available for me to pay; so, they said someone would call me back.  Basically, a game of phone tag when all I really wanted was to move on from this terrible transaction.  At that point, I felt that I needed to report this business’s incompetence.
I will give them my credit card information (for the second time) if items (1) & (2) are addressed.  I do not appreciate being accused of not holding up my end when it is the technician’s fault for grossly messing up my credit card number.

Review: In November, a representative from Mr. Handyman came to my home to perform some (primarily plumbing) work. He extended from piping, installed some shutoffs, and inserted a "T" for my dishwasher and refrigerator. The general quality of the work seemed good, but he put the T in a location that was not only not where I had asked him to put it, but also not in a place it would work, so I had to pay for extra time for it to be redone. The big problem was that some time later, I discovered that he had placed the dishwasher shut off on the cold water line, which made it completely pointless because a dishwasher requires hot water. I contacted the answering service used by Mr. Handyman, and was told that the message would be passed on to the franchise, but never got a response. I have since gone to significant labor and expense (much more significant because the kitchen cabinets were put in between when Mr. Handyman did the bad work and when we went in to fix it) to be able to connect the dishwasher to hot water. I've also left messages three times with the answering service and never received a response from Mr. Handyman. They assured me before doing any work that it was guaranteed, but I have not been able to reach the company at all since it was performed.Desired Settlement: I want a permanent complaint listed against this business and a refund of at least part of what I paid for this service.
