Mr. John's School of Cosmetology, Esthetics and Nails Reviews (1)

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2016/08/18) */
In Regards to Complaint Case: XXXXXXXX
The school did try reaching out to this student in an attempt to find out why she had not been in attendanceWe were finally able to reach her through emailIn her response she had stated that she
would probably not be continuing her enrollment at our school as she did not think that she was a good fit for the programBecause this was such a general statement and did not give much reason behind it an administrator of the school was in contact with the student by phoneThis student expressed her concerns and immediately following the phone conversation the administrator on the phone informed the President of the school and the School Director of the concerns that the student had expressedSoon after that, the School Director contacted the student so as to set up a time to meet with her and try to resolve any issues that she may haveThe student agreed to meet with administration the following day but then failed to show up for the meetingSchool administrators then tried contacting the student by phone once again with no availMeanwhile, the school interviewed different students, at different times that were at different levels within the course, asking general questions in regards to classroom structure, behavior, and the teacher's ability to teach the aspects of the programBoth students spoke very highly of the class and instructorNeither student had anything negative to say but expressed how pleased they were with their educationIn a prior review of this same instructor most students rated this instructor as "exceeding expectations" or "excellent." Our teachers are evaluated on a yearly basis as required by our accrediting body
Later a meeting with said instructor was conducted so that we could share with her the concerns of the studentThe instructor was very surprised by the complaint as she had been in direct contact with the student a great deal and was told in a text message how much she had learned and she even joked that she had been listening in classThe instructor did express concerns regarding the amount of time that the student had missed in class plus the very limited schedule that she was able to dedicate to schoolNormally students in that program attend hours per week while this student was trying to work and go to school many of the same hours all while driving a great distance, which ultimately would have caused the course to be extended much beyond the month completion timeThe School Director did reiterate during the enrollment process that in our past experiences many students which try stretching themselves to thin while driving a great distance to school more often than not withdrawal from the programWe do not want to set the students up to fail nor do we want to have students accepted into the program with large barriers that may cause them to withdrawThe school looks at each applicant to ensure proper transportation, daycare, finances, etc...before making the decision to accept them into the programSaid student found there to be no issues with keeping a daytime job in one city while attending school part-time throughout the day as wellDuring the time of enrollment the student was in attendance a very short period of time before not being in attendance at allAll the while the school was closed for our extended 4th of July break
As for the internet problems we were having; they only occurred on day and it was resolved, but this wasn't something that the school could change or preventIn regards to the student self-studying the problem occurs when students try to work ahead on items that have not been taught yetIn a traditional college often this is acceptable however, in the case of a technical program the student is required to be in class contact hoursDuring this time the instructor has an established syllabus and curriculum schedule so as to ensure that all students will complete every chapter and hands on procedure during their state required hoursStudents can study anytime that they feel necessary however, we cannot allow student to move forward within the program at their own pace regardless of where the instructor is within the curriculumThis type of self-studying can cause incorrect information to be learned, improper hands on techniques to be practiced, and ultimately puts the student at risk of failing their state required exam to be licensed in the professionThe school also takes great pride in the quality of education it delivers and we have attached copies of the handouts given to new students in this programThe handout that the student is referencing to were the notes taken by another student as they are required to take their own notes during most theory sessionsThis was not something that was created nor distributed by the schoolAfter years in business and thousands of graduates we are here for one thing only and that is to give students a career that they can love
Sincerely,

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2016/08/22) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Much of the information in the response is inaccurate and repetitiveI have attached thorough proof
My aim is not to degrade the school, but to resolve the balance billed to me, as the quality of instruction was not acceptable during my short time there of five days
There is a lot of mention in this response to me "missing" schoolMy schedule was set up as Tuesday, Wednesday, and SaturdayI did not miss any of those daysI have my planner that they asked us to bring along with stamps from the instructor and student instructor, "MsA." Please, see attached
For clarity, I emailed my letter of withdrawal and immediately received an email from "MsJ" wanting to know why I had withdrew on July 13thI called her immediately (see phone record attached) and spoke with her directly for minutes because it was too much to type in an emailI called because I wanted her to know directly and not from an emailAgain, I explained I was not a good fit for the class, because I was there for an education and not there to sit around and play on social media, gossip, and so forth"MsJ" DID set up a meeting, but there was nothing a meeting could do to resolve this issuesFor the record, the school did not call me; I called them and I have proof via email and phone records to verify
Also, the handout given to me, was not from a student or student notes; it was from the instructor of steps for a facialThe copies are housed in folders on the wall, as those are the handout the students receiveThey are in the instructor's handwriting and are NOT student notesI have attached a Skin Analysis paper from the instructor with the same handwriting as the handout
Yes, the school director contacted me, I contacted her back and did not receive a response for several daysYes, I agreed to a meeting and did not showWhat I was receiving was simply not worth me returningYes, I sent a message that I did learn from her on the first dayBut, again, I missed NO classes, as my schedule was set up for Tuesday, Wednesday, and SaturdayAlso, I understood it would have taken me longer, which was fine, this was not a complaint of mineMy concern was what I was receiving in terms of quality instruction
There are so many other things I could comment on, such as how the instructor explained she was immature and could not teach how to wax "*** and *** how they keep open containers and drinks around in the Esthetics Room that the State of Illinois would not be fond of, etcBut, again, I am not here to fight and dog the schoolI appreciate them allowing me an opportunity, but it wasn't of good qualityI simply want the balance resolve and part in peaceAttached are all supporting documents
