Review: I got in contact with a guy named [redacted] through the infamous Craigslist for an apartment posting in Manhattan. First flag: the posting was for a one bedroom apartment on 1[redacted] for $1200 a month. When I inquired about the apartment, [redacted] contacted me to set up a viewing but the apartment was on [redacted]. I viewed the apartment and was interested. I told him I was trying to move ASAP (at least by 11/*/13). He said there would be a $100 credit check and $150 to hold the apartment (which is illegal but I did not know at the time). He said the money was refundable if everything did not work out. I requested a copy of the application I filled-out and I never received. He emailed me a couple of days later and said in order to move forward with the apartment I needed to send a reference letter from my current landlord, who is a lady I am renting a room from, W2s, paystubs, recent bank statement, and a copy of my ID. So, like the desperate dummy I was, I sent the information. I kept hounding him for a copy of the application and a status of the apartment. A couple of days later, he texts me and says management was not comfortable with my rental history since it was from renting a room (a room that I was a great tenant in, paid my rent on time all the time and received a stellar reference letter from) and not an apartment. I told him I wanted a refund and said I had to wait until the end of the week. I asked for the information of the management office of the building and he only gave me a name and refused to give me a number and address. I did a search online and got the number of the management company and spoke to I think [redacted]. In any event, I was told they do know [redacted] but did not manage the building on [redacted] anymore. So how did he get access to the apartment?! Also, they had no knowledge of my application. I am afraid I have been scammed out of my personal information and $250!Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of $250 and these people out of business! They are scam artist!

Response:
At this time, I have been contacted directly by Invictus Management regarding complaint ID [redacted], however my complaint has NOT been resolved because:
[redacted] said [redacted] does not work for them and they do not own the building on [redacted] but help them out renting apartments from time-to-time. However, [redacted] mentioned they were the building owners. I do not trust any of the parties. I ran into [redacted] 2 weeks ago requesting my refund and he gave me a bounce check. I have not heard from him since.
