Mr. Rooter of South East Wisconsin Reviews (4)

Review: First of all, Mr. Rooter charged me for an assessment of the problem and I was told that was free. Additionally, they charged me a total of $458.35 and nothing was fixed. I am back at the beginning but out all of that money. The technician indicated that on the second day (the day after the assessment) that he was charging 3.5 hours for labor when he did not work 3.5 hours. He worked 2 and one quarter hours (half of this was talking)and then sat in his truck for nearly forty minutes. I am very discouraged that I am without hot water or water pressure in my kitchen. My bathroom sink and tub fill up with water and do not drain correctly.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of the majority of my money. I understand the technician should receive something for coming out, but I believe that since nothing was fixed, and I received a contract to fix the entire problem for the sum of $551.89, I should not have to pay for a service that was not rendered.

Response:

We dispatched a technician to the address in question on 1/14/2015. The original service was stated as"Low water pressure and no hot water in kitchen sink".Our findings were as follows;Cabling was attempted thru the lavatory sink drain with minimal success which may be due togalvanized pipe. Could only enter the pipe 1 foot. Tub drain cabling was reasonably successful. Cablewas able to go out about 16 feet and pulled a small mass of hair out along with soap sm. Cable alsohit a hard obstacle and requires additional cabling with reel not hand held cable unit. Both drains arenot vented which will cause the drain to be slow. The vent adds air into the line when it is draining sothat gravity can pull it down the drain efficiently. The lavatory faucet has excessive debris inside it andneeds to be replaced. Over a 3 hour period the bathroom sink and tub were cabled. The faucet wastaken apart to remove debris. This was charged as labor to the customer only. The total charges for thework done originally was $458.35Additionally, 2 estimates were created for additional work;Replace faucetPull vanity and open the wall to install 2 vents for proper performance. Repair of wall would have to bearranged by others. We did offer referrals for this work as well.Cable access to open drainThis was quoted at $551.89 with a partial credit to be applied from previous work when scheduled.A secondary option of $223.34 was offered if she supplies the faucet. We have not heard from the customer or their family since we have been on site. We made [redacted]aware of the fact that we do stand behind our work and are happy to come out and complete therepairs as were stated in her estimates that she received while we were on site. The estimates weredone while the technician was sitting in his truck as [redacted] observed.I spoke with [redacted] today (2/16) and she stated she will think it over and we will talk on Monday 3/2.At that time she will decide if she will allow us to complete the estimate as stated.Mr. Rooter has done the work as stated, received proper approvals not only from [redacted] but herparent/caregiver who was on site for part of the time. We have also agreed in writing to credit a portionof the previous work towards the repairs that are needed.

Review: Called Mr Rooter to open a frozen drain on my kitchen sink. I told the dispatcher that I thought the drain was frozen as well as the tech that was sent to open the Drain. The tech quoted me $248 to snake the sink drain. Seem a little high but I was stuck so I told him to go ahead. Well he worked at it for about an hour and then told me that I had an ice clog in the drain and he would need to use some other equipment to open the drain, This would be an additional $800. My issue is that I told the tech up front that I thought the drain was frozen. At that point I would have expected the tech to tell me that he will try with a snake at a cost of $248 BUT that may not open the drain and it may cost me as much as $1000. I would have said thanks but no thanks at that point. This contractor is not very up front and honest with cost.Desired Settlement: Because Mr. Rooter did not open the plugged drain as stated in the estimate I would like a full refund. If Mr. Rooter had given an honest estimate upfront I would have not had him do the work.

Response:

[redacted] was not on site initially when our technician arrived on site. [redacted] was

present and our technician explained the options that were available to address the blockage. [redacted]

signed off on the estimate and approved the work to be done. It was explained that depending on the

findings once in the line this was not a guarantee that the blockage would move, but that we would be

able to determine more clearly what the problem was and an alternative way to resolve the blockage if

needed. Several price options were reviewed prior to getting a signature on the estimate and beginning

the work.

[redacted] arrived on site during our work course and did not display any concerns with the

procedures. He was on site for a minimal period of time and left.

When the technician found that the blockage was frozen solid he recommended additional procedures

which are more effective in thawing frozen pipes. This service was declined due to cost.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 9931493, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The explanation that has been provided by Mr. Rooter is totally false. Mrs. [redacted] was given only one cost for the service BEFORE the job was started and that was an estimate of $248. There were no other options discussed, and for the cost of $248 we assumed the blockage would be cleared. I expect a full refund from Mr. Rooter, if we would have known the true cost of the service we would have not accepted the estimate.

Response:

The rebuttal from Mr. [redacted] has been reviewed. I have attached again the same statement we made originally. It is unfortunate that Mr. [redacted] feels we have falsified our claim.

Review: I contacted Mr Rooter plumbing because the basement had a clogged drain and the water was going to the next door unit. The reason for my call was to have the line unclogged. [redacted] had led us to believe that he would unclog it, but it turned out that his equipment would not pass through the pipes. [redacted] acknowledged that he would not be able to get the job done. I got out my tools and unclog the drain myself. [redacted] after called his boss and questioned if he should charge us because he had not done the job, his boss replied yes. We have tried to settle this with Mr Rooter directly but they say that what [redacted] did was cabling of the line. Why would I pay someone to just cable the line and leave my drain unclogged? I called multiple [redacted]es to settle this as well and the phone calls where not returned in the time it was promised. [redacted] had set up an appointment to come and talk but sent someone else. The work described on the invoice is just what [redacted] "tried" to do. I had to buy my own supplies after wards to fix the issue because I would not call a company again to rip me off a second time.Desired Settlement: $300 refund.

Response:

I have attached several documents in regards to the above claim.

I want all potential customers to be aware that this company charges a $20 "fuel surcharge" even today when gas prices have fallen to $1.80 per gallon. I requested that they credit my credit card account for this unfair charge and they refused.
