Mr. Squeaky Clean adba Chapman Contracting Reviews (13)

Review: On September 15, 2014, I paid Mr. Al Chapman (Mr. Squeaky) $10,000 by check written to him to put a roof on my house. When nothing had been done, my son called Mr. Chapman in November of 2014. Mr. Chapman said he had tried to contact me to verify the roof color wanted and had not been able to get in touch with me. I am retired and I am home most of the time. Mr. Chapman also said that he had been busy with other jobs. The roof color was verified so that Mr. Chapman could begin. He stated that weather might cause delays. When nothing had been done, I called Mr. Chapman in December of 2014. Mr Chapman said that the new roof would be done by Christmas. The roofing job still has not been started. I have called Mr. Chapman several times and left messages for him to call me. He has not returned my calls. My son called Mr Chapman Saturday evening, 02-07-2015, and got a message that the voicemail box had not been set up.Desired Settlement: At this point, I think Mr. Chapman has behaved with a total lack of ethics and I do not trust him to do the job. He has had the use of the $10,000 that I gave to him for almost 5 months and I lost the approximately 5% that I would have earned on the money if I had left it in the account. What I want is for Mr. Chapman to return the $10,000 to me so I can find another contractor who will do the job.

Review: He agreed to a set price for work cleaning and sealing the top and bottom decks and also a few minor paint jobs We paid him upfront labor and materials for the entire job. 1500.00$ in June. He came back in July and cleaned top and bottom decks but never returned to seal the deck or do the painting. After numerous calls and him promising to return to this day he has still never come back.Desired Settlement: A full refund because it has been so long now the decks will have to be re-cleaned before they can be sealed

Review: On 11-5-15, I hired Al Chapman with Chapman Contracting to paint the tin roof on my house, pressure wash my house, and install gutter guards. On 11-5-15, I paid him a deposit of $1,000 deposit. On 11-6-15 and 11-7-15, the job was unsatisfactorily completed. On 11-7-15, I paid the rest owed to Chapman Contracting in the amount of $1,520 without inspecting the job, as I work 3rd shift and had to sleep.

On 11-9-15, I first advised Mr. Chapman that I was unsatisfied with the job done on my roof and pressure washing of my house. Half of the roof was showing dark areas where the painter did not apply hardly any paint. There were several areas that need further pressure washing, and the painter got paint on one of my shutters, on the gutters, and on areas of the vinyl siding of my house. Further, the paint ran on the short side of the roof and seams were not painted.

On 11-15-15, I contacted Al Chapman and advised him that the roof needed to be repainted. I sent him pictures of the roof and he assured me that he would assess everything Wednesday or Thursday of the following week and take care of anything that needed to be redone.

[redacted], who works for Al, came out the week before Thanksgiving. I informed him of everything that needed to be taken care of. [redacted] also called Al while he was at my house and advised him as well. [redacted] stated that he would return on Friday, November 27th to fix the roof. He did not show up, nor did he call. My mother and father have also called and talked to Al Chapman because Al would not answer the phone the numerous times I have called him in an effort to give him an opportunity to fix the problems associated with the job his company did at my residence. Al Chapman advised my father that [redacted] would be at my house on Saturday 11-28-15 at 9:00am to fix the paint job on the roof.

On 11-28-15, I spoke with Al at 9:26am and advised him that [redacted] had not shown up. Al then advised me that his employee had to go to [redacted] to get paint and that he should be at my house around 11am. Once again, [redacted] did not show up.

On 11-28-15, I called Al yet again and left a voicemail advising Al that [redacted] did not show up at 11:00am when he was supposed to arrive after buying paint in [redacted].

I have been trying to get Chapman Contracting to fix the unsatisfactory roof painting job of my house since 11-9-15. I have given Al ample time to resolve the issue and fix the unsatisfactory job. It seems now that all I'm getting from Chapman Contracting is the run around. I paid Chapman Contracting $2,300 for an unsatisfactory, poor paint job.

For the past 3 weeks, I have been trying to get Chapman Contracting and your company to fix this problem with the unsatisfactory paint job.

Chapman Contracting has poor communication with their customers, does poor and below satisfactory work Al does not ensure that the people he assigns jobs to performs the jobs to the satisfaction of the customer. Chapman Contracting also does not do what they say they are going to do.

I would be satisfied with a full refund for the poor and unsatisfactory paint job in the amount of $2,300.

This issue needs to be resolved one way or the other by either a refund on the paint job or correcting the paint job to my satisfaction.Desired Settlement: I would either like the job fixed to my satisfaction or a full refund of $2,300.

We had advised Mrs [redacted] that we were unable to come out there and do any more painting unless we have a few days of dry weather and I don't think that she seems to understand that we offered her a free house wash and free installation of gutter guards for her being a new customer and I'm not sure why we are getting such kick back from her when we have stayed in as much contact with her as possible my man have been out there about 3 times now to explain to her that sometimes things just doesn't come off of the siding and if there is anything on the siding that dripped off from the paige we will more than welcome take care of anything that may be there but the weather and temperature must be right also she is wanting us to put a second coat on at no charge when she only paid for a1k process and I let her know that sometimes one coat might not quite big enough so there are some dark spots in the front because the Paint was black and we we painted with silver and unfortunately the weather and rain is not been on our side so unfortunately we may be having to wait until spring on last week and get a few days of warm dry weather she is more than gladly to call another company to back me up on that if she would like I am here to help her in any way I can I do not want to have bad customers and I deeply apologize for it being done not to her satisfaction we were training a couple new employees and yes they did miss a couple of spots and we are sorry but she has called and harassed and cussed out some of my employees and that's not professional but we are still going to take care of the problem because it it's something that we did we missed a spot and I am deeply sorry but it will be taken care of if you have any further questions please feel free to contact me at###-###-####

Response:

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Number 1, Mr. Chapman nor his employees have advised me of anything. The last I heard from anyone was on 11-28-15 when Mr. Chapman told me that his employee had to go to [redacted] to buy paint.Number 2, The roof was already painted silver, so the explanation as to the dark spots being due to the roof being black is untrue. The dark areas are from the painter not applying enough paint on the entire top half of the roof.Number 3, I did not call and cuss at Mr. Chapman or any of his employees. I merely tried to reach Mr. Chapman on numerous occasions in an effort to resolve the problem. However it seemed that Mr. Chapman stopped taking my calls.Number 4, The job was finished on 11-7-15 and there have been plenty of dry and warm days above 60 degrees in which Mr. Chapman could have already had the issue resolved. In fact, it is supposed to be 63 degrees on December 11th and 68 degrees on December 12th. He could have called already to arrange to fix the problem.Number 5, I should not have to wait until spring 2016 to get this taken care of. I don't trust Mr. Chapman to return in the spring to fix the areas of paint that his men missed. The entire top half of one whole side of the roof needs more paint.I would like for Mr. Chapman to send his men to resolve the issue on either December 11th or 12th when the temperature is in the 60's.

Review: Mr.Squeaky employee went to my house on 7/24/2013 around noontime while I was at work. My au pair who takes care of my one year old son was in the house. They were very persistent and knocked on the door several times and would not leave. My au pair is not fluent in English and she told them various times, "no english". They insisted she sign a paper and she got nervous and scared. She signed the paper thinking it was some county inspection and wanted them to leave. The form is in English and she could not read what she was signing, but did so because she was frightened by these 2 men who just would not leave. She got very nervous for the baby. When I came home she had signed a contract for the services of a house wash for $500.00. I called Mr. Squeaky various times and left a message immediately that this was a completely deceitful way to practice and actually scared my au pair and caused her distress. I have not received a callback from them.Desired Settlement: I hope these employees change the way they practice and behave in a more honest and respectable manner.

Response:

this is so untrue I had an employee that went to her home to give her an estimate on house wash gutters all mold removal of windows doors and trim and the lady did speak a little English but my salesman had an English translator Spanish translator on his telephone she understood she did not sign a contract she signed a proposal to lock in the sale price and she told me that she would have her husband call me my company to verify they want to work done she could not say yes without her husband's approval so I was waiting on a phone call from the husband.I am appalled that her nanny called me and told me that my company was being dishonest and made her sign a bunch of contract stating that she bought something for $500 she never gave me any money we never scheduled a date for the work to be done she did not sign a contract she signed estimate of proposal that my salesman have proposed to her and she said that she would talk to her husband and then she would let us know if they wanted the work done and when would be a good time but I apologize for any misunderstanding or mass confusion I told the lady who called me that as wel.

They show up at my business office demanding payment saying it is clean. The mulch was a promise they made. Bottom line is brick not clean as they represented and guaranteeed. Regards,[redacted]

Review: There were originally two jobs, one was having my home roofed and the second was putting shutters on the front of the house. The roofing job was completed in mid-April but there were 8 to 10 shingles on the front of the house that appear to curl up and I don't want them being blown off in a wind storm. I emailed Chapman on May 25 and Mr. Chapman emailed that he would return the following day and look at the shingles. He did not show up. An email from me on May 31 did not receive a response. On June 28 I again emailed regarding the roofing shingles and he emailed that he would come by on the 29th. He never showed up.

After emailing Chapman Contracting on April 17, May 4, May 6 and May 25 regarding the shutters job I was promised that the job would be completed, at first they said the company ordered the wrong color, then Mr. Chapman emailed that he had forgotten about the shutters. The job was never completed and I gave up on having that company do the work.Desired Settlement: I just want someone from the company to come by and check out those curled up shingles. If repairs are necessary I would like to have the shingles repaired.

Business

Response:

Went to Mr. [redacted] home on [redacted] and took a look at the area around the curled shingles, there is no damage, no need for repair or further action on roof. If he would like for us to still do the shutters we will be more than happy to come and do those, he just needs to call the office and set a apt [redacted]

Review: Found him on [redacted]. Called & he came and gave estimate. I was to supply materials needed. Went & purchased supplies & he and crew started. He had several different people working. Asked for half money up front. Was told he was licensed, worked all over. Took about 2 weeks to get everything done. Had to buy more supplies because was having some problems with job. A day after they finished noticed somethings wrong called no response, after numerous calls got a response. Claimed he would fix never saw him again. Hasn't responded to anyone of my calls at least 20 or more calls to him.Desired Settlement: Either come back and do the repairs correctly including cost & materials need for repair or refund half of money and I'll get someone to come do it right. This would include buying new material and labor cost. Would rather someone else do because I don't trust him. After thinking about it I would rather have money back. I don't think he will follow through on making repair. Rather have someone who will do it right.

They are as follows: - the indoor? outdoor carpet we installed has began frilling and unraveling, the whether strip that was placed down has been pulled up. There were a few nails that have come up, and inside the cracks in the ceiling are slowly starting to return. We have an appointment to make the needed repairs for 11 am on Wednesday, July 29.

Review: Mr. Squeaky (Albert Chapman) was engaged to repair and seal a driveway at [redacted] in Salem. The sub-contractor he used applied the sealer at about 1/2 the recommended coverage rate using a brush. After about one week, fine cracks developed over the entire surface and the larger cracks which were to have been filled before sealing reappeared. The business owner, Al Chapman, was called three times with this complaint and his manager, [redacted], was called twice. Mr. [redacted] took photographs on June 2 but said Mr. Chapman would have to approve the repairs. Mr. Chapman has not returned any calls nor taken any action.Desired Settlement: Large driveway cracks should be filled and driveway surface re-coated a rate which provides a smooth, uncracked surface.

Business

Response:

I have spoken with him and my supervisor has went over and looked at the driveway and have informed him that it could use a second coat

but the crack that he is indicating, this normal in the driveway I mentioned that it could use a second coat and if that's what he desires then you can pay for a second coat I asked him what product that you would like versus economy all the way to Premium and he decided to go mid grade and that's why the driveway isn't as perfect as It could be so if you would like you pay for a second coat we will be more than gladly come over and take care of it for him but as in disputing the $450 for something that we didn't do we provided the service.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The reason for the overall cracking and rough result is that the sealer was applied at about 4.5 gallons per 600 square feet instead of the recommended 4.5 gallons per 250 square feet, and was brushed on rather than applied with a rubber blade or "squeegee", as recommended by the sealant supplier. This caused the cracks and "dimples" to be brushed out rather than smoothed over. This contractor planned to use a lower grade of sealer and we decided to step up one level hoping it would last longer, not because it would provide a better or poored appearance. The contractor never said the mid-level quality would produce a poor result. The large cracks were to have been filled before resurfacing and I paid extra for the crack filling material. There is no excuse for this poor result and if I am to pay for another coat it will not be with this contractor.

Review: On May 5, chapman contracting power washed my house. They did an ok job, but about a week later when I tried to use the outside water, I found that they had broken the [redacted] that turns the water on and off. I now have to use a wrench to turn the water on and off.

On Sunday may 24, I called Albert chapman and told him the problem. He ask if he could call me back, I said yes. By Tuesday the 26th he had not call,so I call again and left a message. He did not call back. I called again on Thursday and left another message. He did not return my call. I called again on Friday and ask him to please call and again he did not. Can you help? I sure don't want this small problem to happen to any one else. I believe it would be an easy fix.Desired Settlement: Fix the [redacted] on the outside water in the front of the house.

Review: On 5/14/15 l talked in person with Albert Chapman, owner of Chapman Contracting, LLC, and hired him to do the following work on 5/15/15:

power wash house, back patio, front walkway, driveway $400.00

special solution to kill mold and mildew on house

with 18 month warranty, which required cutting

bushes and tree away from house $150.00

cut, trim and shape bushes, tree in backyard,

and pine tree in front yard $10.00

Total $650.00

The work was done on May 15, 2015. Upon completion of work, the owner was to be there to inspect, the work, but did not show up. Even though I felt I should discuss my unhappiness with the owner, I discussed it with one of the workers since the owner was not coming to my house. The house was streaked and spotted. The worker told me it was because it was not completely dry which I thought was a reasonable explanation. I told the worker the trees and bushes were not trimmed or shaped as discussed with owner. He again trimmed only the four bushes on the front of house away from the house (not including the trees and bush at corner of attached garage). I explained to him that the pine tree, tree in backyard and bushes in the front of house and bush at comer of garage was not trimmed and shaped as agreed upon with owner. He told me he had done what was supposed to be done under the 18 month warranty. I explained that I had paid extra for trimming and shaping and he told me he didn't know anything about that.

The worker told me he was to obtain payment. I asked him for receipt, contract and warranty and he told me that the owner had it and he would ask owner to bring it to me. I gave him a check for $650.00 and called the owner the following day and left message on voice mail. I called once for two more days before getting a return phone call. He said he would bring me the receipt and paperwork and look at work that was done. When he came he had the worker look at the house and owner agreed to have it redone along with bushes and trees. I asked about contract, warranty and receipt and he would drop them off. About two weeks later the worker redid the house but nothing was done about the bushes or tree. The house was still streaked and spotted and the worker said that it was remaining solution that he couldn't get off and that he would have to return again and probably use a brush or mop-type tool to get it off. I called the owner the following day and had to leave a message on his voice mail. I had to call 3 or 4 more times and had to leave messages. The owner returned my call about 10 days later. He said he thought the house was redone. I told him that it did not resolve the problem and that the worker said he was going to have to come back out again. I also told him I still had not gotten the contracts, warranty or receipt. He said he would have it taken care of properly including the bushes and trees if he had to do it himself. I told him I that that was what I wanted and to bring the paperwork with him. He told me he would call me back the next day after checking his schedule. I never heard back from him. I continued to call and leave messages for approximately a month but never got a response.Desired Settlement: see Attached document

Regards,

Took on a job that they obviously are NOT qualified to do. Showed up late every day, job was not complete on the agreed day, job is still not complete and we're left to finish, my home is a total mess (no precautions taken to protect my brand new floors or the rest of my home) they damaged our water line and my fiance had to fix it because they didn't know how, they damaged our breaker box and again my fiance had to replace and all three days they were here we went without water at different times of the day. Since this is a remodel of a laundry room and it isn't complete, I have to pay to wash my family's laundry at the local laundrymat. Brand new drywall is water damaged because of a faulty leaking pipe behind the wall because of a so-called plumber. Again, my fiance is left to deal with it. I am unable at this time to cook my family a meal due to the mess and dust and washer & dryer in my kitchen. After researching a little further, and info provided by an employee, this "business" was previously listed under another llc and has since changed thier name because of NUMEROUS complaints. Note to self.....do a little more research. They should be ashamed of what my family has been put through this week. Home owner BEWARE!

Hi [redacted] called us a few months back to do a job I priced a job at $680 because we currently didn't have a a contractors license we are currently in the process of doing that the original quote was for $680 but he proceeded to tell me that he would like other parts of the building fixed as well that was not on there for [redacted] and he told me to write the estimate for the other parts of the building and then after he had gave me the check for two different jobs he lied to me and told me [redacted] hit the thing and now he told me that they didn't do it but he made them pay for it since insurance is going to pay for anyway and I told him that I did not want to do the other portions of it if you want me to fix the frames it was $300 I'm not trying to shake him down or anything I'm just not going to do anything to get involved with insurance fraud I think you we should call [redacted] out there to make sure what it is that we're going to be doing is covered by them and then when she perceived that way because I don't think that [redacted] should be paying for something that was not a part of their insurance claim so we will be glad to do anything or fix anything te original job was for but not anything that was not a part of the original contract and then you can look on our [redacted] page Chapman contracting his girlfriend put on there that we had charges pending and we are under investigation they are slandering my business like where some big scam or something I know that the company in the past I've had some bad employees I guess you could say and that we tried to fix it we got everything done and we are trying to move forward and past unfortunately we should never have took over the business that had power damages and we need to get this thing fixed to with the having us associated with the other company because that is really hurting my business if anything we should just go ahead and close the business and start our own New thing because we do really good work but we've had some bad luck with employees this past year so with this complaint I am willing to fix the one sign not the other one because I need more parts for it if you want me to fix it I will fix it for $300 if not I can't do that I told him if he took down that incorrect review about us being investigated and having charges against us and slandering my company on [redacted] that I would go up there and fix what needed to be done that was a part of the contract and nothing else

Review: Mr. Chapman was hired to remodel a bathroom for us. After completing most of the work he asked for payment on October 22nd even though the job was not quite finished. We did pay him $3,134.00 - in addition to $1,625.00 on October 15th. Then we questioned him as to why some shelves had not been installed in our shower as had been requested. Mr. Chapman claimed this had been a problem with the man he hired to put the tile in but Mr. Chapman told us he would take care of it. He said he would do "whatever it takes to make it right", even if he lost money. At the end of that day (October 23rd) Mr. Chapman told us there were just a few things left to do in order to complete the work and that he would be back at 11:00 a.m. the next day (October 24th), and he would also send someone over to put the shelves in the shower. That was the last we saw of Mr. Chapman. We called him later that night to tell him that the sink was leaking badly and we had to turn off the water to the sink and move the vanity out, and that there was a good bit of damage to the flooring outside the bathroom (this in addition to a small area of flooring that was damaged early on in the job that was our fault). He said he would fix it the next day, but, as already stated, he never showed up. We tried calling several times and sent text messages and he finally answered a text message late in the afternoon saying he didn't think he would make it to our house that day and would see us at noon the next day (October 25th) but, again, he never showed up. He did send Mr. [redacted] and another man named [redacted] to us regarding the shower shelves and had told us via text message to be sure and show them all the grout and shower tile. They arrived on the afternoon of the 25th. When they started to cut into the shower tile to put the shelves in, they discovered that the mastic used to put the tiles on the shower wall had still not set (after 5 days). We were told that the tiles needed to be taken out and put back in with a different adhesive - thin set. Both of us called Mr. Chapman and left voice mail messages asking him to call or to come over here because we had a big problem with the shower. Mr. Chapman did not return our calls. He had the man who had originally put the tile in call us and all he could say was that he had never had a problem with mastic before. After researching this ourselves, we found that Mr. [redacted] was right and we told him to go ahead and take the tile out and replace it correctly. These men came back the next day (26th) to get started and once the tile was out, they found that the concrete board Mr. Chapman had used to build the shower walls was too thin (1/4") and was badly cracked, and there was a leak behind the faucet. We had no choice but to have the leak fixed and the walls replaced with the needed 1/2" concrete board. Mr. [redacted] and [redacted] fixed the leak and replaced the concrete board and replaced the tile in the shower including installing the shelves. He also fixed the leak behind the sink and put the vanity back in place. As of today, October 29th, the work is finished, but Mr. [redacted] asked for payment in the amount of $2100. We had understood that Mr. Chapman was going to pay Mr. [redacted] as Mr. Chapman had said that he would do whatever he needed to in order to "make it right" but Mr. [redacted] had not heard from Mr. Chapman at all so we did go ahead and pay him. The issues that Mr. [redacted] dealt with were all due to poor workmanship on the part of Mr. Chapman and the other tile man he had hired, and Mr. Chapman's failure to show up and finish the work he was hired to do. All we ask now is that Mr. Chapman do what he said he would do, and "make it right."Desired Settlement: A refund in the amount of $3000 to cover our expenses due to Mr. Chapman's failure to honor our agreement and damages caused by his work. This amount covers Mr. [redacted]'s bill, cost of supplies we needed to purchase for Mr. [redacted], as well as having to replace laminate flooring outside the bathroom that was damaged due to Mr. Chapman's poor workmanship that resulted in a plumbing leak.
