MRC Roofing met with Ms*** in January of Recommending a long lasting quality asphalt shingle roof with a year warrantyIn re-roofing proper attic ventilation is a building code and roofing manufacturers requirementMRC submitted a proposal with a watt solar fan to meet these
requirements, see attached signed contract which Ms*** committed tooSolar fans that we recommended are much more effective than passive ridge vents, see attached articleHer new roof with the new solar fan was installed as per contract on 5/27/2015. During the warm summer months in August and September of 2015, Ms*** called and complained about the summer heat and the solar fan wasn't workingWe went times and assured her the solar fan was working and it was just the warm summer months that she was feelingShe continued to called and complained about the heat and wanted the solar fan removed and for us to install a passive ridge ventI advised her against a passive ridge vent because they have design flaws and leak in our tropical climate during adverse wind driven heavy rainsShe insisted that we remove the solar fan and she would get someone else to install the passive ridge ventOn 11/23/MRC did remove the solar fan at her requestDuring the HOT summer months ofAugust and September NO ridge vent or solar fan is going to cool off the interior of any homeThe intentions of a ridge vent or solar fan is to ventilate the attic and not let the heat build upto extreme temperatures.MRC Roofing ContractThanks,Mike C**MRC Roofing,LLC*** *** ***

MRC Roofing and I entered into a contract on April MRC Roofing per the contract was to re roof my house and in part "tear off the lower slope and replace the CDX board as neededThey did not do either of these they just repainted this part of the roof with Gaco, the work was done around Aug and we still have leaking, wet ***, mold and mildew nowThe *** is wet and the solar fans (they installed) have exposed *** blowing toxic particles in the homeTheir roofing team also shot nails into the top of the roof where there was electrical (old Kailua home) and the repair was sub par(still have fuses blowing and some out lets inopThe owner will not work with us and told my wife and I to talk with his attorney onlyI did with hold MRC's roofing's final insurance check and now I am being threatened with a lien placed on the propertyAll we want is to have the work done right per the contract....If MRC roofing was to tear off the lower part of the roof as per the contract, apply the proper CDX board, properly repair the electrical mishap that they did, properly install the solar fans so the wet *** isn't blowing in the home, we would be happy to give them their final check

Mr [redacted],In response to your Revdex.com...

Customer's Statement of the problem MRC Roofing,LLC completed the attached signed agreement dated 4/10/2015. You started the lower roof was not torn off and upon inspection  was to have the 1/2" CDX plywood supplemented. We absolutely removed the existing low slope roof at the back of the house, other wise the new roof over it would be very lumpy and not flat as it is now. We can prove this by performing a roof sample cut out. Then you will see there is only one new existing layer of new roofing. If you choose this sample to be performed there is a charge of $875.00 plus tax if there is not the two layers of existing roofing found that you insinuate. If there are two layers discovered MRC will completely reroof that entire low slope roof area as per contract at no charge!      The attached agreement says "may have to sheet w/1/2" plywood supplemental on flat roofs only". What that means is if the existing plywood does NOT exist MRC would ask your insurance company for a supplement to install the plywood. The would be considered unforeseen. However, when we removed the existing roofing the plywood was there in place. Therefore No supplement was needed.    You also said when we installed your roof we had over 10 men on the roof and now you have stress cracks in the canac all over the house. Stress cracks are very normal in all canac ceilings, especially when they get 50+ years old. See attached agreement, page 2 Note: MRC Roofing, LLC will Not be responsible for the following ( if applicable) #7 " Any damage to ceiling due to vibration and movement of men, equipment or material on roof".     You state " you do not believe the underlament was installed to manufacturers specs and therefore a void of warranty may exist. As you requested last week Mrs. [redacted], the local representative of the malarkey roofing company inspected your roof and verified the shingles and underlayment were installed according to there specifications. Your warranties are in our possession  and will be issued as per our attached agreement when all we receive final payment.Wet and mold spots existed on you ceiling prior to MRC commencement of reroofing. Thats why you reroofed, because your roof was leaking years before we signed the Agreement.Yes, MRC did accidentally cut a illegal hidden unforeseen electrical wire (preexisting) under your existing plywood roof sheathing when installing the ventilation solar fan ( as per attached agreement). We also immediately subcontracted a licensed electrical contractor and with your approval we installed a surface mounted wire moulding to remedy the problem. The electrical fixture involved was all working when the electrical contractor was completed. Because your electrical system is 50+ years old and does not appear up to building code you should seriously consider upgrading your electrical system as recommended by electrical contractor.   Again your canac ceiling issues with mold and other hazards are preexisting. There is nothing in MRC's Agreement that addresses the hazards in the scope of work!   We have completed our work according to our signed written attached agreement and the roof was  inspected and approved by the roofing material manufacturer. We hereby request final payment in full or we will proceed with further legal action with our attorney. I understand he already has had several conversations with you.Michael *. C**MRC Roofing, LLC

* Thank you for responding to my email.  I read the response from MRC roofing and cannot believe what Michael Chu is saying!!  He promised that I would feel a significant difference if I put a solar roof fan on my new roof.  The cost was 1212.00 extra and Michael Chu told me that if I did not have this fan to provide circulation in my roof my 50 year warranty would be lowered to 10 years.  I found out from the manufacturer that Michael C** statement was incorrect.  The [redacted] Shingle has a 50 year warranty and it had nothing to do with having a solar roof fan.  Also, I was told that the solar fan would significantly cool down my house, but I felt nothing.  I called other roofing companies and asked if they suggest putting on a solar roof fan and most of them told me they just do ridge vents, because the solar roof fan would have to be replaced after awhile and that would cost me more money.  They said that they do a ridge vent as part of putting up the roof.  I called Tory Roofing, Murakami, David's Roofing, Fullmer Construction, Kimoto Roofing and Tropical Roofing and no one said they do not do ridge vents except MRC roofing.  Michael Chu refuses to do the ridge vent for me and told me to find someone else.  Most roofing companies are afraid to touch someone else's job because it would void the warranty.  If I have a 7 year Workmanship Warranty and MRC is refusing to put a ridge vent that would cool down the attic and should have been part of the job when they put up the roof and would not have cost me an extra 1212 dollars then why aren't they doing it instead of telling me find someone else?  I really don't want to use them and want them to pay me back for poor workmanship!!  One of Fullmer Construction's roofer came to my house to see what he could do to help me and told me that MRC roofing company had left nails penetrating in my shingles in several places and that was a big no no, and would eventually cause leakage and wood damage.  MRC did not even check their work and if I did not have this other roofer check my roof I would not have known about the nails penetrating the shingles.  They even made the wood under the eaves all split from the pounding of the nails through the shingles and plywood.  When I looked up I could see splits in the wood all around the house and it was really ugly!!  They came back to paint it, but eventually I hired someone to paint the whole house again.  Michael C** said I am a difficult customer??  Well, I expect to have what I paid for done well and if you tell me a solar fan is going to make a significant difference in the temperature of my house then it better!!!  Also, am I suppose to be happy when I find out my roof has not been done properly??   I don't pay for things expecting poor workmanship and false promises and then later all kinds of excuses.  If MRC has no pride in their work and about customer satisfaction then they shouldn't be in a business collecting thousands of dollars and scamming people.   I read on Yelp another person's complaint about MRC and it is similar to mine.  Something needs to be done about companies like MRC Roofing.  I use to live in Japan and I must say the Japanese companies never treat their customers like MRC Roofers.  They have more pride in their work and pleasing the customers and their work ethics far exceed what I have experienced with MRC Roofing Company.  Any company that makes their customer have to write to the Revdex.com and the DCCA to get help is a poor company in my books.  MRC has just banked the money and moved on while my roof has no circulation at all and they have left me to find someone else to do it and in the future if there should be an issue with the roof I don't have any confidence MRC and Michael Chu will honor their warranty if someone else touches the roof.  So far of what I experienced with them they don't care!!!
