In July of this year I booked a table at the 3rd Elmira Craft Fair. I took the check to book the table by hand. Mrs Murdock , was not in at the address given. 1 Killdeer Road, Apt. 4, Elmira, Ont. N3B 1X2, I left the check under the door latch. It was a quiet neighborhood, so I was not worried.
I never heard anything else from her, but noticed it was still being advertised. As it was the 3rd Fair, I also did not have any fears. It was being hosted by the Elmira Lions Club (she booked the hall through them)
When I arrived on Sunday morning, there was only one other car in the car park when we arrived. I went into the building to see if it was the correct place. After speaking to three people, I was introduced to Arthur, who advised me that the booking had been cancelled the previous Thursday. He further stated that he found that Mrs Murdock , was a bit unreliable, and thought it might prove difficult to get my money refunded. On coming out of the building, I told my husband and daughter, who had come with me to assist. I was not very happy. I then noticed another couple. I asked them if they too, were here for the show, and they said yes. They too had not been advised of the cancellation. We continued to chat, then another car arrived. Within minutes there was 12 vendors in the car park with no explanation of what was going on. One group, knew it had been cancelled and had been trying for 3 weeks to get their money returned. Later another couple came. They also had been told on the Wednesday, prior the the Lions Club being advised on the Thursday. They said that they had booked a hotel. So decided to come anyway. They just wanted to see how many others had been duped. We all decided to involve the police. Statements, were taken , we, through a group leader, was advised our course of action should be to report to you and wait 2-3 weeks to see if our monies are returned. If not the case should be advanced. Although I lost 50 dollars in cash, (luckier than most) I lost, the whole morning, gas, for my car, my husbands, and my daughter's. The work, and stress caused.
