MUMMERT CONSTRUCTION Reviews (1)

Review: Mr. Mummert and his son [redacted] (business partner) improperly installed portions of [redacted] Plank brand lap siding on my house (### [redacted], PA [redacted]) during an extensive renovation project that spanned from 2004 to 2006. Recently, the improperly installed siding has begun to degrade and disintegrate. I called the manufacturer, [redacted] CA ([redacted]) in July, 2013 regarding this problem. Upon speaking to the technical services department of the [redacted] Company, I was informed that the type of damage I described was due to improper instillation. They explained on the phone, and I confirmed their information on the product data sheet that Mr. Mummert left with me at the time of installation, that the installer must “provide a 1” to 2” clearance between any roofing and the bottom edge of the siding”. If the bottom of the siding is in contact with the roofing, due to the configuration of the roof lines, rain water or melting snow may be absorbed by the siding, and in particularly cold climates where the wet siding is subject to freezing, the formation of ice within the siding causes it to split and flake in the way that it is doing on my house. A copy of [redacted] siding data and installation instruction sheet, along with photographs of some damaged areas of my siding are available if needed to process this complaint. The damaged areas are unsightly and will negatively impact the value of my home. Left unrepaired, I anticipate additional damage to occur.

I tried to contacted Mr. [redacted] Mummert and his son (business partner; [redacted]) in mid-July 2013. After more than four attempts to reach them by phone [redacted] finally responded on Aug 12, after I threatened to contact the Revdex.com and Angie’s list. I explained the situation and he argued back that he had always installed the [redacted] siding without a gap above the roof shingles, but that he would check with the manufacturer and get back to me within 1 week. . On August 20th, Mr. [redacted] Mummert showed up unannounced at my home to inspect the problem. He said that he was not taking responsibility, but would think about the matter and get back to me. He said that if he decided to do it, he could not get to it for three to four weeks, as he was very busy. The next day, Aug 21, I realized that I had forgotten to mention that I wanted all the siding that was improperly installed along the rooflines to be included in the repair, not just the section that had already fallen away. In retrospect, I realized that the flaking of paint off the siding was a precursor to the disintegration. Photographs of existing flaking are available. My wife also asked him to make another minor correction to the renovation job. The over-stove exhaust hood that was also part of the same renovation project was installed incorrectly. It was installed 4” lower than the manufacture’s minimum height specifications and has been a constant annoyance, since we repeatedly bump our heads on the hood. On August 22nd , Mr. Mummert called back. His reaction was one of immediate, extreme annoyance and anger; he said that he had planned to do the roof, but changed his mind and now was not going to do anything. He complained that the work had been done eight years ago. He said that he was tired of hearing complaints from everybody and that he was retiring at the end of August. I have since left a message that we would withdraw our request to reinstall the stove hood, but Mr. Mummert has been unresponsive. Our contract with Mr. Mummert did not specify a limit to any guarantee, but that the work would be “done in good workmanlike and substantial manner.” I am asking the Revdex.com to intercede on my behalf, as I have been unsuccessful in resolving this issue.

Thank You,Desired Settlement: Mummert Construction Company, aka [redacted] Mummert LLC shall repair or replace all [redacted] Lap siding in contact with roof shingles, according siding manufacture's specifications of 1.5 " gap between siding and roof shingles. If the damage to the currently installed siding is greater than 1.5", that section of siding is to be removed and replaced. If repaired as suggested by Mr. Mummert with the use of flashing, use pre-finished white flashing.

Response:

We have looked at **. [redacted] house at [redacted] and have agreed on cutting up the siding and reflash where we have too. We happen to be away when [redacted] contacted us that is the reason it took 2weeks to get back to him. We have been trying to work with **. [redacted]. Because of family illness we will do the work in spring of 2014. If you have any question you can contact [redacted] at [redacted] or email at [redacted]

Thank you

** Mummert
