sans-serif;">Lower Cape May County sustained a strong thunderstorm storm on April 2, 2016 (We keep records of all storms, and storm related damage and estimates for our customers insurance needs) Mr. [redacted] (as well as several other homeowners with fence damage) contacted our office for an estimate to replace 2 sections of fence and one post that sustained damaged from the storm. We went out, wrote up the estimate to replace the 2 sections and one post. At the time of the estimate we made note that the fence surrounding Mr. [redacted] property was ¾ milled spruce stockade and that he requested the same as a replacement. This is the most economical fence product carried within the fence industry. This work we’ll call job #1 was completed, paid for and Mr [redacted] was totally satisfied. A week later Mr. [redacted] contacted us again saying that the new fence looked great and he requested an additional estimate to replace more of his aging spruce fence. We went out a second time to give him an estimate on what that cost would be. All of the remaining posts on the property were found to be in decent condition so our estimate was to replace 6 sections of 5 ft high spruce fence across the back line of his property as well as the 6th and 10th section on the right side of the property making the total number of 8 sections of spruce to be installed. This work we’ll call job #2 was completed. A few days later Mr. [redacted] called to say that although he was satisfied with the work on Job #2 he really just wanted the remainder of the old sections on the side of his home replaced and not just the most aging 6th and 10th. We replaced his entire back line as it was in the worst shape of all. But again we told him no problem and scheduled a 3rd appointment to see what the additional work would entail and that cost. We gave him this 3rd estimate on replacing the remaining 7 old sections of spruce fence on the right side of his property with new. Again, the posts were solid and we replaced only the fence panels. This work, we’ll call job #3 was completed and paid for on May 22, 2016. All of Mr. [redacted] new “¾ milled spruce” fence sections were installed with 3.5” galvanized screws, the same way we attach all wood fence to wood posts. We install only 2 types of wood stockade fence, #1 cedar and #1 ¾ milled spruce. Mr. [redacted] fence was strong, straight, level and solid when we completed it. At that time Mr. [redacted] was again totally satisfied with his installation and paid his bill in full. A month later, on June 21, 2016 at approximately 3:30pm we here in Cape May County were hit with a super storm with micro bursts that caused more damage to Lower Township and Wildwood homeowners and businesses than the last 3 hurricanes combined. This was not your average thunderstorm! We have literally dozens of customers that sustained major damage to their properties and have dozens of fences that are still waiting for work to be completed. This storm was of such magnitude that it blew the entire roof off of the Wildwood Public Works Building located just a few blocks from Mr. [redacted] home. June 22, 2016, the morning after the storm we had over 60 calls for storm damage estimates, Mr [redacted] was one of them. When he was told that we were booked solid for storm repair estimates thru that week and couldn’t get out there to give him a price on repairs until the following week he became irate. He demanded that we go and fix his fence immediately and that he had no intention of paying for any repairs. We tried to explain that the storm had left over 35,000 homes without power and that people had trees, fence and roofs blow off. He didn’t want to hear it. He just got louder and more belligerent. He accused our company of inferior products, workmanship, materials, etc. In the 51 years of business we have never had accusations like this. There was no talking sense to this man. While trying to explain how fortunate he was compared to our other customers to have had such minor damage and that the workmanship guarantee did not cover storm damage he lost it. He got increasingly angry and loud. At this point he was told that we would end the call because if he could not discuss this in a calmer manner. We suggested that he call back once he calmed down we would be happy to help him and at that point ended the call. A few minutes later our receptionist Holly received a call from Mr. [redacted] daughter shouting and accusations of taking advantage of an elderly man. When Holly tried to calmly explain that her that there was no warrantee that covered storm damage she said we would be sorry and hung up on her. We would have been happy to address the storm repair to Mr. [redacted] fence but we could in no way could have done it for free. Again I will state, his damage as well as so many others was from the storm not from inferior products or our workmanship. If Mr. [redacted] would like to calmly call us and schedule a repair estimate, we would be happy to do that for him. At that point my suggestion would be to call his insurance company. To date we have done more than 100 fence repair estimates for storm damage. Our customers have had insurance adjusters come out and scheduled their repairs with us. As of today we are fully booked out for storm repairs until August 25, 2016.

I purchased railings and fencing for my new home in Ocean City, New Jersey. I spent about $10,000. For the cable railing system it was recommended that I purchase the template. It was listed as a template. Well, the template did not match the material that they sold us. This was not discovered until one section of the fence was completed and the material used had to be replaced. When I reported this to Murphy Fence Co. they informed me that I was stupid for relying on the template that it was only a guide. No where in any conversation with them did they say that it was a guide in fact on their invoice it was listed as a template that I had to pay extra for. To replace the material, I had to spend an additional $900. I was stuck and did not have a choice but to pay. .Also, I had to pay for the additional labor to reduce the work. I was willing to pay for the labor but the material should have been covered by Murphy.
Their sales person (could be an owner or related to the owner) was rude and ignorant, which in my opinion reflects badly on the company. I will never ever do business with them again, nor will my builder or neighbors.

In January of 2015 [redacted] contracted us to install two types of fence. Along the rear property line we installed 6ft high white vinyl privacy fence. And down the right side of the property we installed 4ft high black open spaced aluminum fence. Murphy Fence has never been contacted for any type...

of repairs to this property. On Monday January 23, 2017, we here in South Jersey were hit with a major storm. A ‘Nor Easter hit our area with 65 mph winds that caused much property damage as well as flooding, major beach erosion and wide spread power outages thru our area. On Tuesday January 24, 2017, we were inundated with phone calls for estimates on fence repairs. In that one day, we were booked up solid for the remainder of that week as well as the first 2 days of the next. On Wednesday January 25, 2017 [redacted] called our office to have someone come and fix her fence. Holly our receptionist explained to [redacted] that due to the storm and the high volume of repair calls we have received that it would be Tuesday January 31, 2017 before we could get there to assess the damage. [redacted] explained that she would not be home and Holly assured her that we would be able to look at it without her being there and would contact her after seeing the damage. She was fine with this and proceeded to give her name, address, and contact phone number. We only received this one call from [redacted]. On Tuesday afternoon January 31, 2017, our estimator went out to survey the damage to [redacted]’s fence. There was no damage to the 6ft white vinyl privacy fence and except for 1 section the 4ft black aluminum fence was also in excellent condition. What we did see was that there was one section of 4ft black aluminum fence that was clearly impacted by something quite large. The force of the impact dented and broke all 3 metal rails. This damage is certainly not a warranty or workmanship issue. Based on the mound of tree limbs and piles of sawdust on the street there was certainly storm damage to this property. We took several photos of the property, fence, mound of tree limbs as well as the piles of sawdust. We take pictures of all estimates, and installations, especially those calling for repair work after severe storms. I would be happy to email the Revdex.com these photos. Before we would call [redacted] with her estimate for repair we received this written complaint from the Revdex.com/[redacted]. It’s quite clear that [redacted] lodged this complaint before we had the opportunity to look at her damaged fence. It is also quite clear that this damage was caused by some large projectile and not a manufacturing defect! Again, we would be happy to forward you our photos of her property. We are quite satisfied that [redacted] is going to contract another company to repair her fence. Her actions in lodging a complaint before our company could assess the damage speaks volumes. There is no basis for her complaint and we look forward to discussing the matter further. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Amy L[redacted]
