10/7/2016[redacted] came to my office wanting three non-restorable teeth removed. This appointment was on 7/21.2016 and was billed as an emergency exam. [redacted] had two insurances which were Delta Dental and Welfare. We accept Delta Dental but we DO NOT accept Welfare. [redacted] was informed there would...
be$188.00 co-pay for the removal of three teeth from her primary insurance. The patient had to save the money to get the job done.[redacted] returned to the office 9/2/2016 to have the procedure done. Again she stated she had two insurances. They were Aetna and Welfare. She was informed we do not accept, Welfare. We are preferred providers for Aetna. A copay of $188.00 for the extraction of three teeth, and it would have to be paid prior to the procedure. She paid the $188.00 and we removed the teeth.Her insurance paid the claim and her copay was $168.00. In return, she has a $20.00 credit at Murphy's Family Dentistry. I would gladly refund her overpayment $20.00.In September, I go to my yearly vacation. Upon returning, [redacted] called the office wanting a check for $188.00 and a claim submitted to welfare. Again she was told we are not a provider for Welfare and therefore cannot send a claim. Welfare will not pay Murphy's Family Dentistry. I made it clear. I would not refund her copay of $168.00. I asked Nancy to relay the message.Later that evening, [redacted] was in my office demanding a refund check and wanted a claim submitted to Welfare. I told her I could not deal with her dilemma right now. I would call her later in the evening.As it turns out, Nancy produced a statement, as per [redacted]'s request, for her to submit to her secondary insurance. She was trying to recoup her copay from Welfare. Murphy's Family Dentistry cannot assist in her request, because we are not a part of her secondary insurance system.The phone call to explain the situation of not being a preferred provider for Welfare became an attack by three people on a speaker phone. I heard [redacted]'s, her mother's and her father's voices being very aggressive about me owing [redacted] money. In addition, being threatened, that the father was "coming up there". The phone call ended with "you will have to deal with the insurance and doubling ".To finalize, Murphy's Family Dentistry Inc. is not a provider for any state insurances and therefore is not capable to receive payment from any state insurance or submit a claim to a state insurance. Murphy's Family Dentistry Inc. cannot help beyond this point with [redacted]'s attempt to recoup her copay.Thank You,Patrick V. M[redacted] DMD
