Murphy's Irish Pub and Rockwater Restaurant

Review: This is a letter written to the establishment pertaining to my complaint to help put this in perspective: I/we entered into contract with your establishment on May 16th, 2011 to host the wedding/reception of my daughter, [redacted] to [redacted] on June 9th, 2012. On August 29th, 2011 an email was sent by [redacted] advising that wed had to make a decision to cancel your venue location for said wedding altogether as [redacted] Paternal Grandfather suddenly became very ill. Her grandfather would not have been able to travel so with that said, the Bride & Groom felt it best that they have their wedding in the Bay Area and not wait until June, 2012 in order to have her grandfather in attendance.Over the next several months, [redacted] stayed in touch with [redacted] with regards to whether the date of June 9th had been resold, each and every time, advising that it hadnt. In the meantime, a friend of [redacted] booked their wedding @ Murphys in December, 2011 due to recommendations from [redacted] Furthermore, another friend became engaged in May, 2012 and contacted her for Lake Tahoe venues wherein [redacted] once again, recommended your establishment. It just so happens that this friend was looking to have her wedding on June 9th & knowing from [redacted] that it had been cancelled for them, she contacted Murphys. She was advised by [redacted] that both the garden gazebo/outside patio as well as inside the pub was already booked with weddings but that she could accommodate them Friday the 8th or Sun the 10th. Unfortunately, the Bride & Groom really wanted an outside style venue and specifically wanted June 9th and left it at that. She was ultimately successful in securing another venue and in reporting that to [redacted] she mentioned what shed been told by [redacted], that the Garden Gazebo/Patio and pub was booked for a wedding/reception on June 9th, 2012. Over the next several days that turned into a couple weeks, [redacted] proceeded to contact you or [redacted] in regards to the above. Finally hearing back from [redacted], it was confirmed by her that the [redacted] wedding was indeed still on your venue calendar. With that said, how is it that you can still have the date on your calendar when we advised cancellation last August? Seems to me that if it had been removed properly from your calendar, June 9th might have been re-sold long ago and I couldve been refunded at least $300 of my $500 deposit. [redacted] left it with [redacted] that she would confer with you in regards to this situation as well as our dissatisfaction as to how this has been handled by you. Neither one of you have made any attempt to contact [redacted] or myself, which now gives us the feeling that youre trying to avoid us; as well as feeling that you both have acted very unprofessionally.

I feel that I should be refunded the full deposit of $500. A claim was entered with my credit card company, Discover Card. However Mr. [redacted] was uncooperative. He would never acknowledge that they were in the wrong as to not removing the wedding from their calendar & thus the date could've been resold. He did offer to refund me $200 of the $500; but with the condition that I agree that all their procedures were adhered to. Clearly, they weren't!!
