Review: I was advised by [redacted] of Murray Contracting that resulting cracks in the walls, ceilings and floor were due to foundation issues. After going under the house he stated I had an area of termite damage as well. Mr. [redacted] stated he could repair install treated beams to replace the one with termite damage and would install anywhere between 4-8 cylindrical jacks for foundation support. I paid Mr. [redacted] for the products, remaining payment due on completion. When Mr. [redacted] completed the work, I had a home inspector check the work and a termite inspection. Their findings; the inside cracks were a result of normal house settling. There was no foundation issue and no termite damage. The work according to the inspectors never needed to be completed. The work that was completed was not what Mr. [redacted] stated either...he used wood block instead of jacks, in some areas they did not even touch the floor joists. The beam that was "damaged" was left in place and three new beams "sistered" on one side to the "damaged" beam. The beams instead of being bolted in place were screwed with 3.5" screws. Also found out when reviewing the VA Code that the contract does not meet the requirements of the VA CodeDesired Settlement: I contacted Murray Contracting/[redacted] via email address [redacted] on 2/26/15, outlined my findings and dissatisfaction and requested a refund of the money already paid. To date there has been no response.

To whom it may concern: ln response to the matter of case number [redacted]: Murray Contracting Services was contacted by [redacted] to give a quote for a bathroom remodel. Upon entering the home, Ms. [redacted] stated she was not happy with cracks fanning in her home and stated the rooms were just painted and caulked. There were fresh cracks in several places. [redacted] explained to Ms. [redacted] that he would take a look in the crawl area under the house. [redacted] examined the crawl are under the home where he found there were several issues: The end of a 12 ft support beam bad damage caused by some type of bug and this damage caused the beam to collapse on the pier. In other areas, the foundation support had been severely damaged do to Hvac installation. [redacted] informed Ms. [redacted] of his findings and told her the proper way to fix these issues was to tear out the old foundation that was pUt in, install new piers and a beam support. Thomas [redacted] quoled Ms. [redacted] a price of five to six thousand dollars, which she responded thal was too much to pay for the work. Ms. [redacted] then asked Mr. [redacted] if there was a cheaper way to fix t.he issues. [redacted] then designed a created a contract to install a beam sistered and to instalJjacks for the amount of$1825.00. Ms. [redacted] crawled under her home to inspect what was explained to her by Thomas [redacted] and to see the damage herself Ms. Shahccn's father also crawled under the house with Thomas [redacted] and Mr. [redacted] showed her father the bug damage and the support issues. Her father and herself agreed that Mr. [redacted] wa'> correct in h.is findings .• and agreed to the terms of the contract. The contract was initiated and signed by all parties involved and stated on the contract. Mr. [redacted] proceeded lo start working on the property. Mr. [redacted] inslalled the sistered beam. Because the plwnbing and wires were on one side of the piers, Mr. [redacted] installed the beam on the other side of the piers where there was adequate bearing. Afterwards with a helper, Mr. [redacted] then pro<.:eeded to jack the floor up one inch on the one side. Mr. [redacted], then according to code, was supposed to install 2xl0x but instead installed three 2x12 beams. Mr. [redacted] used ledger locks to fasten together the beams, and these type of bolts arc over the requirement for code. For the wde to be met it is only required to use l 6d nails to pass inspection. Afterwards, Mr. BricJ started taking out the bricks to access the area which was inaccessible and found the ducting was covering the entire area. Mr. [redacted] then informed Ms. [redacted] that he had to drop the beam back on the other side of the ducting. The cylinder supports were too large to be placed in this area. Ms. [redacted] acknowledged this to Mr. [redacted]. Mr. [redacted] then proceeded lo [redacted] and purchased a treated 4x4 for support. Mr . .[redacted] then jacked up the area in numerous places over one inch to two inches, and leveled the floor. He then installed a 4x6x J 2 treated beam. Mr. [redacted] informed Ms. [redacted] he would give her a $200.00 credit because he could not use the jacks. He informed Ms. [redacted] the work was completed. She stated to Mr. [redacted] that she did not feel well so Mr. [redacted] left in good faith Ms. [redacted] would pay him for the work completed. Ms. [redacted] told Mr. [redacted] she would contact him. Mr. [redacted] and Murray Contracting Services waited for approximately one week to hear from Ms. [redacted]. Ms . Debra Murr'.ty emailed Ms. [redacted] on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, to touch base with Ms. [redacted] to see if everything was completely sulliciently and if there were any issues. Ms . Murray also inquired about the bathroom remodel she originally wanted to have done. Ms. [redacted] sent a reply on Thursday, February 26, 2015, with the email stating her response. As a company we W3lll to c(lmplete work to the satisfaction of our clients. Ms. [redacted] did not give us the opportunity to do so because she would no longer allow access to the property and immediately filed a complaint. Murray Contracting Services [redacted]
