I took my vehicle in on Friday, Jan 3rd for an oil leak and the check engine light being on. I was called the next day by Mike, the manager and I was told the oil leak can be fixed, that it will cost $900 and the car will be ready in 2 days. I asked if they checked why the check engine light is on and I was told they will check it that day. I did not hear from them till Monday when I got a call to be informed they found other issues after diagnosing the check engine light and taking the front of the car apart. My new estimate went from $900 to $2,200 but I was told that will take care of the oil leak and the issue with the check engine light being on and the car will be ready the next day. I did not hear from them on Tuesday and at 5 pm I texted the manager and was told the car is not done and he will call me the next day. The car was not done till Friday and Monday morning before going to work I noticed a new oil leak on my garage floor. On my way to work, 4-5 miles in, the check engine light turned on again and when I got on the freeway the car started shaking. I got scared and I contacted Mike, the manager letting him know what is happening. He said the oil leak is normal and it will stop in a few days. Regarding the check engine light this is what he said,"I'm sorry your light is on, we took half your engine apart and this can happen. You know, being human an all. Bring your car in, the sooner the better."I took it back in, I was told they had to change 6 spark plugs which they did as a courtesy, free of charge. The next day the engine light came on again and the car was still shaking. I called Mike again and I was told to bring it back. I dropped it off and 20 minutes later I was told to come pick it up because there's nothing wrong with it. As I was picking it up Mike called and he told me to bring it back next week because it actually needs a coil. I took it back this week, sat there for a day and now I'm told I have to pay $300 to have it fixed.

Desired Outcome

Refund I understand we are all humans and make mistakes that's why I took the car back 3 times after I was told it was repaired. The shop had 3 chances to fix it and they didn't. Each time I took it back the engine light came back and the car is still shaking. I would have asked for the job to be finished but I do not trust that place anymore. I need to take it somewhere else as I do not feel safe to drive it on the freeway due to shaking.

MVR informed MRS. of the age of her vehicle and the parts ( in question ) were original equipment from the manufacturer. MRS. again expressed financial hardship at this time. MVR expressed we could help her out by providing the remaining ignition coils (5) at 50% of cost which is $175 ( total cost $350) with no labor for install. MRS. proceeded to call us con artists,as well as other vulgar comments.

Customer Response • Mar 24, 2020

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I cannot accept the response because most of what they claim is false. I am not familiar with their technical terms but I know I took my car in for an oil leak and a check engine light being on. None of these issues were resolved. Also their statement that I was giving the upmost respect, common courtesy and customer service is false. I went there crying after Mike told me the estimated cost will be $900 and told him I am a single woman who knows nothing about cars and with limited financial resources and I begged him to only repair the oil leak and engine light. That was my mistake as the estimate of $900 went up to over $2,000 after I said that. That is taking advantage of a woman who admitted she knows nothing about cars and came out as helpless. I went back on Feb 3rd and asked them if there is any way I can have the old parts they replaced or a proof that they actually order parts for my car. If that was rude then they are right but I have recorded that conversation and I have proof that I asked in a nice manner. Michael (assistant manager to Mike?) said only the manager can approve my request but the manager was in the back busy and couldn't come talk to me; the manager has been avoiding me since the second time I took the car back. That's what they call customer service, respect and courtesy? As soon as I left, Michael called me twice with a blocked number and said, "I know you recorded the conversation and know that I'm taking you to court because recording in the state of Nevada is illegal". Is that respect and courtesy? Was that blocked number call a courtesy phone call or harassment?

The gaps between my visits to the shop were because Mike, the manager told me they were busy and to bring the car back at the end of the week. I have proof of that. I have proof I contacted the shop the next day each time I picked up my car to let them know the light was back on and there's still oil leak. Mike lied to me many times and I should have read the reviews that complained about him before I took the car in. I'm not the only one who had a bad experience with how Mike treats customers. I have text messages to back up my statements.

As far as MVR attempting to contact me, that is a lie! They never tried to and if they did they should be able to prove it. I can pull out my phone records and show I was never contacted by them after Feb 3rd when I was threatened by their employee from a blocked number. I was the one who sent them an official demand letter which they refuse to accept and got returned to me. I can prove that what I'm saying is true, I can back up every statement I made.I doubt MVR can do the same.

Their statement that they replaced 6 spark plugs and 1 ignition coil is not true. They only replaced the spark plugs not the coil and I have the work order to prove that. It was the next time I took the car in when they said I need to have one coil replaced and was told to take the car back in a week because that's when they'll have time to replace it. And when I took the car back a week later they said all 6 coils needed to be changed, not just one. My first estimate was $900 then they decided to do more inspection and it went up to $2,200. That should have been the first red flag. That's when I should have read the reviews and refuse their service.

The way they treated me was wrong. I lost more than $2000 in my life and I can be ok with that. What I am not ok with is how I was treated and taking advantage of based on my situation. I do not want them to do the same with another woman. It is just wrong. Also I am not ok with their response as is not true. As I already said, I can back up my statements and they should too if they stand by what they said. Ignoring texts, not getting back with me, being lied to, being told one thing then changing it the next day, making threat calls from blocked numbers, refusing to provide old parts or prove they bought new parts. None of that sounds like treating a paying customer with upmost respect, common courtesy and customer service.

So, no. Of course I am not accepting their response. It is just not true and they should be ashamed of it.

Thank you so much for taking time to resolve this matter. Your help and involvement is greatly appreciated!
