My 4 Seasons Reviews (4)

We are unable to assist our former customer Ms***. We can not do any more to assist her or refund her any money. It is clear in her complaint... she states it only leaks when snow piles up, as it did with so many other home owners these past winters. Never once did she claim it leaked during heavy downpours. If a roof is installed improperly, it would leak in almost any rain fall, especially for low slope areas which are almost flat

I am here to respond to claim # [redacted]

Please update my complaint response as follows...."I would like to first respond by noting.... if you feel as though you have been 'scammed' I would encourage you to contact local law enforcement - and not the Revdex.com.  However, I don't believe anyone was...

scammed - so I will use this platform to respond appropriately.  My company (Rainbow Roofing) completed a roof replacement project on the entire dwelling ([redacted]) for Ms. [redacted] in the fall of 2009.  The contracted price for the entire job (whole house) was $4,750.00 (the area in question equates to apx 1/12th of the entire dwelling (15x6 or 90sq ft, the entire job was about 1100sq' +/-).   After discussing several options for 'low slope' roof assemblies - Ms. [redacted] opted for Rolled Roofing (which according to the [redacted] - is an approved roof covering - rubber is superior, yet more expensive and we are obligated to work within her budget).  It appears that Ms. [redacted] (in hindsight) has decided to replace with better material.  Again, please note - for 1/12th the size of the roof area in question, Ms. [redacted] has paid almost 1/2 the 2009 contract price (2009 whole roof $4,750.00 to 2015 flat roof only $2,200.00).  Contrary to what Ms. [redacted] is stating - we were never asked to coordinate with the plumber for any penetrations through the roof.  We were contacted by Ms. [redacted] well after installation was complete to state that there was a leak.  We (as she has noted) have responded several times.  Each time we had responded - we noted that the roof wasn't leaking in a rain event, but would leak during a snow event as the complaint notes.  As we have noted (numerous times before) - the issue of the leak is directly related to the pipe and how it penetrates the roof.  Rainbow Roofing did not complete this flashing detail - it was done at another time by another contractor (who we do not know).  Furthermore the pipe is not installed to code.  MA State Building Code (780;CMR) states that all pipes vented through a roof should be at a height of 18" or more as not to be blocked by snow.  (Please see attached photo)  Because this pipe is not properly flashed and is not to proper code height - it will therefore continue to leak.  In closing - we had responded appropriately and completely with regards to the issue at hand.  We stand by our original response that 'it was/is the pipe...'.  Unfortunately, our work has now been removed (without inspection from any governing authority ie, Building Inspector - who we suggested several times to bring onsite).  At this point, I don't know if there is any thing more we can add to the solution.

Revdex.com:How sad that a businessman of so many years would sell his soul for the almighty dollar, This is about money and character and ???[redacted]’ willingness to cheat a customer and unwillingness to pay for his deliberate deceit. He is a scoundrel, who delivered faulty work and took advantage of a senior citizen.[redacted]' response contains several lies and omissions,1. In October 2009, [redacted] was indeed asked to coordinate with the plumber. He would not have been awarded the job without that agreement, The original roofer from 1984, who was not able to come do the job for reasons of illness and distance, advised that I insist on that arrangement 2. During the week in question, [redacted] and the plumber most certainly did meet face to face to plan  Monday - the plumber removed the old furnace, Tuesday /Wednesday the carpenter refreshed the furnace room floor to ceiling and installed a cement pad for the furnace to rest on, Thursday /Friday - BOTH jobs were executed concurrently - Roofers atop, plumbers inside.  [redacted] spent the majority of those two days at another job in Worcester instead of properly supervising my job, I had to work, but stopped by several times during both days, [redacted] only popped in and out, going back and forth, screwed up a down spout, but provided no real supervision that I could see. 3. Just to further attest to [redacted]’ character, or lack thereof, during his meeting with the plumber, I saw him slyly turn to the plumber and overheard [redacted] ask whether he intended to pull a permit for the job, as though it were an option not to do so. I should have canceled him on the spot but, fortunately, the plumber said yes he was getting a permit, so [redacted] complied. 4. As further testament, to the poor character of [redacted], when I first spoke with him, he told me a story about a supposed lesson he learned earlier in his career at a job he had worked which did not use the materials stated in the contract and how they were caught. I do not know whether it was his company or that of another owner. The woman was not home while the work was being done, but she had someone watching and refused to pay for the roof until it was redone correctly. He said he would never do that again, but Rainbow Roofing DID do that to me. 5. I know that to be true, because I asked [redacted] to make note of the materials [redacted] used as they peeled up the roof. [redacted] discovered that there was NO Ice and Water used which would have protected the roof. There were TWO witnesses6. Regarding [redacted]’ statement about the flashing/boots around the pipes, my handyman (former roofer) states the boots around the pipes are applied by a roofer not a plumber. More importantly, my 1984 roof had a 3 ft, tall galvanized exhaust pipe for the furnace and that was replaced by the plumber with PVC during the Rainbow job. It was “NOT done at a another time by another contractor”. NO roofing or plumbing work was done between 1984 and Oct. 2009.7. [redacted] did come by. But, each time he came by just to declare that “if the roof doesn’t leak during rain, it is fine”, as though rain and melted snow aren’t both water, The snow melts and sits there causing the leak. As you can see from the photos, the roof was anything but fine, And the ceiling beneath it was ruined. During October of 2014, [redacted] verbally quoted me $1700 to re-do the bad section, That was his admission of a bad job, except he expected me to pay for it. He retracted that quote and denied making it when he realized I expected him to put in an insurance claim. Three roofers, plus my handyman, have all said that section was badly applied. In December 2014, [redacted] offered me $500 for my handyman to “fix it”, That offer was admission of his culpability for a bad job. Too little for replacement. 8. When I called [redacted] in April 2015 to come re-do the job, he said to me “have someone else do it and I ([redacted]) will pay for it”, Now he's complaining about the COST of the replacement. It would have cost far less in 2010 if he had admitted his guilt and just replaced it then. And he needs to pay for the shoveling expense and the ceiling repair. Both the 2009 roof and the 2015 re-do roof were paid for with money from my miniscule 401k. He owes me big time.9. In 2009, the options that [redacted] offered me were rolled roof or shingles, I agreed to rolled roof for the perimeter of the roof because that had been successful for 25 years. If it had been properly applied with the contracted Ice and Water, then it might have been successful, but two bad actions don’t make for a successful outcome.10. During April 2015, [redacted] advised me that rubber roofing was the best option for replacement of that particular section of the roof because of the exhaust pipes. The photos of damage attached to my original letter were all taken prior to the Jan.-April 2015 storms. 11. In 2014 and 2015, I did in fact go to the Building Dept, several times to ask questions and request inspections, I, too, was not pleased with the height of the exhaust pipe, but they said that it was CODE, The height of the pipe was NOT the reason for the leak, If the pipe had been blocked by snow, the furnace would have shut off. It did not, The leak was around the pipe, not through it. The Bldg, Dept. also informed me that although Rainbow Roofing had pulled a permit, [redacted] had not requested the follow-up inspection and they had so noted it on the permit, I asked the inspectors three separate times to come and inspect the roof and they saw no need to come out since a roof inspection is performed from the ground and only determines that something was done, but does not detect /determine faulty work,In closing, [redacted] is a schemer and a scoundrel.  It’s all about money and he has NO integrity, Please warn others.Sincerely,[redacted] – [redacted], [redacted]RAINBOW ROOFING - “Scammed a senior citizen by not using materials stated in contract, leading to damages inside the home. And then refused to replace faulty outside work for five years, New roofer discovered the fraud.”Homeowner East Weymouth
