My House Store Reviews (1)

Review: In May, 2013 I called multiple "businesses", as well as a couple individuals, that were selling "used" or "refurbished" washer and dryer sets. About 10 minutes after making an appointment for that same day with a grumpy sounding man to buy a refurbished set for $$380 with a five year warranty, I received a call back from a man by the name of [redacted]. I believe [redacted] is his last name if I'm reading his handwriting correctly. He seemed very nice and friendly and asked who I'd decided on buying from so I told him. He proceeded to tell me that the other guy was very unfriendly and that he'd heard many complaints from his customers that the 5 year warranty was a fraud and that if something happened he would never pick up his phone or call you back. Needless to say he convinced me, and I decided to purchase the set from [redacted] instead, also for $380 plus tax. On May 25th, 2013 [redacted] delivered and installed my newly refurbished Washer and Dryer. He was very nice and explained to me (my husband was at work) that there was a one year warranty on parts and labor, circling it on the receipt (SEE ATTACHED) as he did so. He then said that the only things Not covered in that 1 year was the door lid-switch and the couplings, which he explained could break if you slam the lids down hard so to be careful. He wrote these 2 things on the receipt also and wrote that it would be a $60 charge for those 2 things within the first year. The receipt I have is a carbon copy and not the original so I could not have written these things myself. On September 25, 2013, only 5 months later, the dryer stopped working and we had to have [redacted] come out to fix it. It turns out it was the belt, something [redacted] told us broke very rarely. He had told my husband on the phone that it would be a $60 charge to come out when he called him. We were both confused, my husband had the receipt with him at work so he could call the number on it, so I didn't remember right away what had been explained to me 5 months prior. I spoke with [redacted] and set an appointment for that evening, making sure he know I didnt have the receipt on me in case that was a problem. He said that was fine. Then, once the job was completed, he said I owed him $75.00! I was even more confused and asked him why. He said the extra $15 was for the part! Since the work was done and he'd made the bad decision to leave his kids sitting in an open door-ed truck in my front yard for the last 10 minutes, I paid him with my credit card because I hadn't taken out enough money from the ATM. I even offered, and gave him and his kids, a couple of water bottles out of my fridge. When my husband got home I saw the receipt and got angry realizing that [redacted] may have just scammed me out of $75 since it was suppose to be free parts and labor for a year. I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and called him immediately. He began to make up a lie about a driving charge because he had to drive outside of down town San Diego, among other lies that I began to call him out on. I pointed out that a $60 charge, even if that had been told to me, was ridiculous for a 10 mile drive, that even if he was telling the truth, the paying for the part still didn't make sense. I told him that I felt like he had lied to me from the beginning and I knew he was lying to me right now. He finally got quite for a moment and then asked what he could do to make things fair. Against my better judgment I told him I believed a $30 charge total would be fair, even though it was suppose to be free. He agreed and said that since I paid by credit card he would have to send me a check for the $45 difference. He asked me to send him a text message with my name and address. Here are the texts beginning that very same night through October 16th as I never received the check:1. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 6:56pm: my name is [redacted]. I paid $75 on my credit card 2 days ago. I think that $30 is fair. My address is:[redacted]..... Thank you.2. Mon., Oct. 7, 1:55pm: [redacted], I still have not received the check for $45.00. Have you mailed it out yet?-[redacted],Regarding the free parts and labor dispute3. Thurs., Oct. 10, 12:20pm: Sir, are you really just not going to answer me? After speaking with you I thought we came up with a reasonable middle ground to the issue of "one year no parts and labor". Please respond if you still are planning on mailing me the check for $45, or have already. If I don't hear from you, I'll assume you've taken back your word. Thanks.4. He finally responds Thurs., Oct 10, 12:30pm: Sorry..I'm looking into the check not arriving...I will resend on Monday when I get cancelled check notice.5. Thurs., Oct. 10 1:16pm: Ok. Thank u very much.6. Thurs., Oct 10, 1:17pm: Np7. Wed., Oct 16, 2:09pm: Did you figure out what happened with the check and send out another yet? This is the woman who had a dispute with u over the free one year parts and labor.-[redacted]Today is now November 4, 2013 and I still have not received a response to my last text, nor the check in the mail.Desired Settlement: I would like my total $75.00 back. It was suppose to be 1 year warranty on parts and labor.
