What I get given the full house floor to renovate (~600sq feet):
1) Demolition is done by small portions, probably to be able to take in trunk of pickup on daily basis, while initially it was told, they will provide trailer. They are trying to save on cost of garbage bin or trailer.
2) While demolition is going second day and still not finished, they are putting hardwood in the rooms, no patching and primary paint, still vanity and tiles not demolished. Hardwood was put in wrong direction, not along the flow, but across it. Excuse was: 'we thought you will like it'. I never thought that I have to tell explicitly, that hardwood should be put along the floor flow, that is default option. So, two boxes of hardwood are wasted.
3) Not staying at work proper time, coming 9.30 am, leaving between 12.30 -14.30pm., and always having some excuses. While initially insisted to work from 7.am till late evening, 7 days a week - in three days, they spent 12 hours on property (5+5+2).
4) Asked on second day to separate working area from other part of the house, preventing dust to go to our living area, Response was rough and not acceptable (told that this is construction area and cursing).
5) They asked us we to mark on ceiling where need to put pot lights, instead they to do.
7) On second day they insisted we to pay second time 4,750 dollars, then to pay extra 500 dollars to fix 'properly? ventilation from bathroom to roof (later on, we found that vent just lost connection). We rejected both. They asked as well we to pay painting material on Thursday January 10th (third day of work)or they will not come to work. (demolition is not done yet, but they are coming to prime walls).
8) January 10th, they came and collected their tools and emptied their pickup truck with garbage from demolition in front of our house. Contract says that they will take care of garbage disposal.

Desired Outcome

We paid initially total is 4750 CAD. We have the estimate from another contractor for the whole project, which is 1000 CAD for demolition and garbage removal, including garbage bin rental cost. Assuming that demolition is not finished yet (two toilets,4 doors,bathtube, tiles),garbage is not removed from the property,the garbage they brought back and damped in front of house on the last day also, two boxes of hardwood are wasted (put in wrong direction), suggesting to return back 4.250 CAD.

In response to what was said I see things very different.

First off when it comes to the removal of the garbage when we were first hired, we said we would either be taking the garbage away by a truck and or trailer as it is a semi and no room for a bin to sit on site. We were removing the garbage during demo so their was no garbage left at end of day.

We asked her to make the lights after there was misunderstanding on what way she wanted the hardwood installed. Their is many different ways flooring can be installed and as it had not been outlined in the contract which way she wanted it, we assumed it was left to our judgement to decide what way to install the floor. After the issue with the flooring arose we said we would remove it and reinstall it the way she wanted.

As for her claiming we asked for more money that is not the case we asked for her to sign off on a payment schedule everyone could go by so everyone k we when draws would happen. This is nothing out of the common to do with clients at the beginning of a project so everyone is on the same page. I have many text conversations with her explaining this.

When it comes to us taking our tools the night before that she told me over text and on the phone that she was hiring someone else and I told her over the phone and text messages to have the paint and primer their for us as stated in the contract that she would provide. When I arrived I asked her if she had the paint and she said no that I would have to get it, even though the contract stated she would provide it. So I told her their was nothing I could do until I could prime the walls and that I was taking my tools and asked her to let me know when she had the supplies needed to continue.
We usually begin with the floors and cover them during the finishing of the walls and all the other details and in cover and clean at the end but she didn't want it done that way.

She hired us but refused to allow us to do the job she hired us to do, she insisted on micromanaging every single thing being done. To the point we're she got made when we were doing demo and she could access up stairs as we had a pile of garbage outside the bathroom well we were doing the bathroom demo.

She acts like we did nothing their and claims we were only their certain hours which isn't true, we did the entire demo as well as repaired all the holes, we went as far as removing many different fixtures she had marked even through none of it was listed in the contract, but to try and make her happy we just went ahead and did it. We were ready to begin putting the space back together we had final sand to do on the repairs and prime when she refused to provide materials

Our driveway has two parking spots so beside their truck there was space and for trailer. They could do demolition in two days max, but in 3 days that they were her, they did approximately half of demolition. There are shelves left, ceiling in the bathroom, railings on stairs and entrance. There is some floor that needed to be replaced as well but they covered with hardwood. That hardwood is wasted. Cost is 230 dollars.
To determine the payment schedule, we asked for the project plan which they were refusing to provide and were demanding just to get money by certain date. They asked for second 25% 4750 dollars of payment on second day of work being there only 7 hours total.
They insisted to paint and even demolition wasn't done, nor plastering, nor sending, nor electricals. They said they are waiting for their electrician to come next week.
They are calling micromanaging asking them to separate construction site from our living space, asking to go to see what they are doing as wasn't able because of garbage on middle of the hallway, or asking them to finish demolition before they start painting??? Or asking them to work more than 5 hours a day...

It took us one week to get new contractor to continue on renovation on what *** and his wife have started. They refused to return money and were demanding for even more. We are lucky that they left before caused even more loss.

was hired on January 29, 2018 to build out 5 custom closets and reverse one door to swing outwards at $675. He brought an informal contract specifying this. See attached.
I provided him my drawings (see additional attachments) and measurements on how I wanted the closets to be done. I also gave him specifics around the materials to use. He was expected to complete the work by January 30, 2018. Presented an informal contract (I have a copy with his signature) and requested a 50% up front deposit for the work planned for him (which I gave). About $320.

He did a little bit of work (and very poorly) and left to "get coffee" and then called me to negotiate for more money. I didn't agree. So he offered to give me back my money less some fuel charge. But He didn't do this. Next day he started saying he would give me my deposit back less a fuel charge and some money for his time. He ultimately didn't do this either. I kept chasing him for some of my deposit back and now he just ignores me.

Desired Outcome

I would like my $320 deposit back.
