No contract or written estimate was ever provided or signed by either party. No contract or written estimate was ever provided or signed by either party for refurbishment work done to my apartment. The amount ultimately billed was far in excess of a reasonable charge for the work to be done.Desired SettlementAmount billed was $20,846.86. Amount paid before being presented with the bill = $7,500. Amount outstanding = $13,346.86.To satisfy the debt, I am offering $5,000 less legal fees incurred (approx $2,000 to date)Business Response All the work performed by N. Riley Construction was requested, and approved by, Mr. [redacted], starting when we met at the property to discuss the scope on the 2nd floor and continuing forward. Mr. [redacted] paid $9,850.00 to N. Riley Construction, without hesitation, for the 1st floor work. He then requested N. Riley Construction to do the same work on the 2nd floor, pay for 100% of the materials (as compared to 15% for the 1st floor) and supply all the labor, and requested a significant amount more (verbal quote was provided). Nothing was done without Mr. [redacted]'s request and approval, whether in person or by email. In fact, N. Riley Construction has an emails from our office to Mr. [redacted] after the meeting asking him to confirm all the work to be done on the 2nd floor, and a subsequent email from Mr. [redacted] confirming all the work (and adding more); essentially, additional qualities of a contract. There are numerous, successive emails along the same line to Mr. [redacted]. After speaking with Mr. [redacted]'s uncle, N. Riley Construction offered a discount on the work completed of $750.00 as well as the option of a payment plan for the final balance.
