Review: For the past 3 summers I have had a Yellow Jacket infestation inside the walls of my apt where my 4 year old and I live. My daughter has been stung by the Yellow Jackets multiple times in her home just from walking from room to room. Every time I have complained about the Yellow Jackets I've been handed a can of Bee spray (not intended for use indoors) that I'm instructed to spray at the Yellow Jackets when I found them inside around my child and our personal belongings. When I called NAI Black to make a formal complaint I was informed they will send someone to foam my windows and hope that fixes the problem or they will try something else, in the meantime my daughter and I must suffer through until they find the right solution or I can be released from my lease and move.Desired Settlement: I want a professional pest control company to find the source of the infestation and remove the problem for good. I will also need a safe place for my daughter and I to stay while my place is being investigated.

We are in receipt of the subject tenant’s complaint, received by our office this afternoon. We have reviewed this matter and the following is our response.

Just this morning a professional pest control company successfully exterminated and removed the yellow jackets/bees in the subject tenant’s apartment, documenting that there are no bees or other flying insects in the apartment or surrounding area. Further, the apartment and adjoining spaces (windows, doors, etc.) were sealed to prevent future access from any yellow jackets, bees, or other flying insects. The pest control service advised us that, this time of year especially, insects are most likely to attempt to gain access to the “indoors” as to get out of the cold temperatures. Please note that in the past when the tenants notify site staff that the bees/yellow jackets are becoming a problem, the pest control service is dispatched immediately.

The pest control service advised us that it was not unsafe for the tenant to be in the apartment during or immediately after the extermination took place. As such, there was no need relocate the tenant during the extermination process.

A letter was mailed to the tenant today advising her that the extermination was completed, also reminding her to keep her sliding glass door closed when not entering/exiting the unit, as well as checking the screens on her windows from time to time to ensure they are intact, as to avoid any other flying insects from entering the apartment. We enclosed a gift card, thanking her for her patience as we corrected the problem.

Because this apartment community is a HUD project, the subject tenant is not eligible for a household transfer under HUD regulations. Please note, however, that we have offered the tenant the opportunity to terminate her lease and vacate her apartment on or before October 31, 2013, thus waiving the customary advance 30-day notice to vacate requirement. We asked that she notify the site manager in writing if she planned on accepting our offer to vacate. We sincerely hope the problem has been resolved, but as stated above, we are very willing to let the tenant out of her lease and vacate if she is not satisfied with the results.
