Mr [redacted] did bring his truck to us for repairHowever an exhaust manifold replacement is not a "routine" service by any meansMr [redacted] brought the truck to us and did NOT request any diagnosticsHe simply told us to replace the exhaust manifold, which we didThis truck's engine was not in great condition at allIn fact, the misfires he is describing had already been there previouslyThis can be confirmed by the repair shop that he brought his truck to immediately before bringing it hereThe tech did not at any time inform Mr [redacted] that the engine did not have a problem prior to replacing the manifoldThis was because Mr [redacted] just wanted to manifold replaced since it was leaking and it was loud as a resultThe truck does in fact have around 115,miles, however what he is purposely leaving out of this argument is that the truck is a 2001, making it years oldA simple google search will yield many, many posts about the valves having problems in these particular engines with this amount of mileage, or sometimes even lessThe idea that something could have happened to a valve while replacing an exhaust manifold is pure speculation and there is absolutely no evidence that could make this conclusive in any wayAlso it is worth noting that Mr [redacted] cancelled the payment shortly after the repair and we are awaiting a court date because of thisThe new manifold which was paid for by the shop remains on the vehicle still

I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # *** Your claims about my truck not being able to pass inspection are ridiculous, it ran great and got inspected on 8/4/16. It is easy to get 250,oto 300,miles from this motor when properly maintained, and mine was very well maintained and I have receipts to prove all of it's maintenance and oil changes

great condition at all. In fact, the misfires he is describing had already been there previously. This can be confirmed by the repair shop that he brought his truck to immediately before bringing it here. The tech did not at any time inform Mr [redacted] that the engine did not have a problem prior to replacing the manifold. This was because Mr [redacted] just wanted to manifold replaced since it was leaking and it was loud as a result. The truck does in fact have around 115,000 miles, however what he is purposely leaving out of this argument is that the truck is a 2001, making it 16 years old. A simple google search will yield many, many posts about the valves having problems in these particular engines with this amount of mileage, or sometimes even less. The idea that something could have happened to a valve while replacing an exhaust manifold is pure speculation and there is absolutely no evidence that could make this conclusive in any way. Also it is worth noting that Mr [redacted] cancelled the payment shortly after the repair and we are awaiting a court date because of this. The new manifold which was paid for by the shop remains on the vehicle still.

I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # [redacted].The only place I brought this before them was the [redacted] dealer and it had a clean bill of Health which I have a receipt for.  I have verification from an ASE mechanic that it is indeed very possible that old gasket material or like debris contaminated the cylinder causing the bad startup noise that [redacted] called me about after the repair.    This mechanic also verifies that in no way would any mechanic start work on motor when there are obvious pre-existing conditions without notifying the customer first.  And documentation from a cylinder head company that when mechanics leave debris in the exhaust ports it causes engine failure.[redacted] is right that I did not request any diagnostics, which leads to the question why did he keep it for a day and half after the initial repair was complete doing troubleshooting and swapping out parts all on his own accord without me requesting it, and without giving me any estimates or charging me for.

We are also all ASE certified technicians at this establishment. The only reason we would perform work on a vehicle that had pre-existing running problems is because the vehicle was brought here and specifically requested to change the manifold and nothing else. Being that the truck is very old and would NOT pass state inspection, it was assumed that you were just trying to keep the vehicle "going" for the time being. This whole conversation is invalid based on the fact that our STATE licensed inspectors looked at the vehicle and easily determined that it would not even pass inspection. So your claim that it had a "clean bill of health" is simply false. Everything in your complaint is based purely on speculation with no proof to back up the argument. If you come in for an oil change, leave, then a day later the engine blows up because a connecting rod fails and a piston comes through the hood, that is simply bad luck. And that happens, every single day, in many types of business, not just automotive repair.
