We received you letter on October 13 111 regarding case [redacted]; subject Nalgene Water Bottles.  Customer stated: "I emailed their customer service 5 weeks ago and have not heard back. I had a few new water bottles take on the smell of Pine-Sol after just spraying them a few times with a...

spray bottle. Weeks of soaking them and flushing them did not take the smell away. They are ruined. Why so porous?" There is no record of these emails in our complaint management system or email archives. Cleaning instructions are clearly visible on our website or by calling or emailing technical support. Any ordinary method for cleaning dishes would have produced an acceptable result. Pine Sol is not a recommended cleaning agent for food contact surfaces. The material is incompatible with harshly acidic cleaning agents like Pine Sol, and agents like Pine Sol will adsorb to the plastic, slowly leaching out over a long period of time. All thermoplastic polymers will behave in this way when exposed to Pine Sol. There are no suitable alternatives that are more compatible with Pine Sol. The Pine Sol Website specifically warns not to use Pine Sol on dishes or other food contact surfaces.
