Naples Valley Dental Reviews (2)

This is a response to complaint [redacted]. It states in our notes when the patient presented on June 7, 2016, our patient had a limited examine of the problem area as well as two x-rays were taken.  The doctor noted the patient stated the tooth has been bothering her for over a year but it...

progressively got worse.  There is a large carious lesion noted on the distal lingual, extending 2mm below bone level, gum tissue was invaginating towards cavity.  Doctor advised the patient that the tooth was non-restorable and needs extraction.  Patient understood.  Patient was given a prescription of Amoxicillin that was called into CVS on Chili Avenue. The patient's insurance was charged $48.00 of which $48.00 was covered in full by the patient's insurance. An explanation regarding the treatment proposed by the Doctor.  Our Doctor is very conservative in the fact that she will try to save a natural tooth as this is the most ideal form of treatment for all patients long term.  Due to the extensive decay into the nerve, the amount of bone loss and tissue overgrowth into the badly decayed tooth the only proper form of treatment in our Doctor's eye was to have the tooth removed. She felt the long-term prognosis of trying to save this tooth with a possible root canal, possible crown lengthening, possible build-up/post-core and possible crown would be a dis-service and ethically was not right.  A response to the patient's statement regarding her husband's treatment.  Depending on the tooth, how it presents, decay, broken, etc., sometimes a temporary filling is placed while the patient is deciding on how to proceed with further treatment.  The treatment can range from a filling with possible pulp-cap to root canal to extraction again depending on the severity or extent of the decay.  However in this patient's case he never had a temporary filling, this patient had multiple fillings on multiple dates of service over the course of 6 months.  The $81.00 the patient wife is referring to is the unpaid balance after insurance paid.  I hope this helps, please feel free to contact me via e-mail or phone.  Jennifer  Operations Manager  Naples Valley Dental
