Napleton's Kia of Elmhurst Reviews (%countItem)

I went in looking for a Kia Sportage in the $11,000-$13,000 range and once I decided the case was not for me because the offer on the car because it was more than I wanted to pay my credit was ran way more times for a $28,000 Nissan Pathfinder. I was not aware of this until weeks later when I began receiving multiple denial letters from different banks. I went to purchase a car from a different dealership and after him running my credit one time, he explained to me that Napleton did something referred to as "shotgunning" my credit to cause no other dealership to want to work with me.

Napleton's Kia of Elmhurst Response • Oct 21, 2019

We are disappointed to hear Ms.’ interpretation of events—especially as it has obviously been curated by a competing dealer with an obvious bias. We did not “shotgun” Ms.’ credit application, nor did we do anything that Ms. did not expressly request. As Ms. explained in her complaint, she came to us looking for an entry level vehicle and, as often happens, saw something more expensive which she liked more. She filled out a credit application and signed the authorization for us to share that application with any or all of our partner lenders in an attempt to secure financing for her. She was expressly told that the vehicle in question would be difficult to secure an approval for and that it may take both time and the leveraging of one bank against another—hence the multiple submissions. Ultimately, we were not able to secure financing for Ms. due to a combination of damaged credit and a vehicle which was far too expensive. We suspect that the next dealer ran into the same issues and found the Napleton Group to be a convenient scapegoat. We do not feel that we owe the customer anything further at this time.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

I have proof that Napleton Kia did, in fact, do things regarding my credit that I did not "expressly" request. Outside of my findings about Napleton Kia, at the dealership that I most recently visited, I was also informed via mail from multiple banks that Kia worked with. I am very glad that Kia acknowledged that I was in the market for an entry level vehicle but multiple banks denied their inquiry on the bases of a nearly $30,000 vehicle (Nissan Pathfinder to be exact) that I never viewed nor expressed interest in at their dealership. I never saw or was shown anything more expensive at the dealership than the vehicle that I entered the dealership inquiry. In fact, my Salesman Andre did not walk the lot with me to know if I saw something other than the Kia sportage I requested to see. Lastly, the assumption that the most dealership ran into the same issues were false, those same issues were not faced during my successful car buying process. I feel that I am still owed a credit report adjustment due to the inquiries made for a vehicle I never viewed nor expressed interest in.

Sincerely,

Kayla

I was highly disappointed in my experience with this dealership. Like many others, there was a bait and switch of pricing. The website stated the sales price of just over $15k on a new car. I reached out to them via their website to "Get the Napleton Price." I received a call and text the following morning. I asked for their best out the door price, to which they responded only that fees would be discussed in the showroom. I then asked specifically to confirm the sales price, to which they only sent me the link back to the website.

We did go in to test drive the vehicle, and loved it. However, when we sat down to crunch numbers, they were offering a sales price over $26k! That is a big difference from what their own website says. The salesperson stated that the price on the website included all possible rebates, so I asked them to show me where. They were not able to do so. I got "the website looks different on a cell phone". I was then asked if I really expected to pay $15k because other dealers do the same thing. I offered to show the salesperson that this was indeed not true. We ended up leaving after some pressure to try to meet in the middle. I thanked them for their time, but ended up leaving.

If they had been up front we could have saved us all some time. The website listed possible rebates, but certainly not the amount they were stating to get to the sales price listed on the website. It makes no sense to negotiate up from the listed price. Now I have an unecessary pull on my credit report which can affect the credit score. There was also some issue regarding the credit app, which we never actally signed. They wanted to include income from a job my spouse no longer worked at, presumably to show we could afford the almost double than what we had budgeted for a car payment. However, I cannot say for sure that this occurred since we never signed a credit app.

While we apologize for any miscommunications that may have occurred during the sales negotiations, the account of the conversation presented by this complaint is not accurate. Ms. was offered the advertised price, not reliant on any rebates or incentives that were conditional in any way. It was only after Ms. calculated the cost of the vehicle with finance charges that she became upset. We have attempted to explain that finance charges are assessed by the lender, not the dealer, and that they are a product of the customer’s credit rating, but Ms. has refused our explanation. Ms. ultimately declined to do business with us because the monthly payments quoted to her were above her budget. This was not, however, because of any increase in the offered price of the vehicle. We do not believe that we owe Ms. anything further at this time.

Napleton's Kia of Elmhurst Response • May 03, 2019

As stated prior, the price advertised was the price offered. Mr. and Mrs. are, again, confusing the amount they would have to pay back with finance charges with the price of the vehicle. Furthermore, Mr. and Mrs. filled out their credit applications online and submitted them after affirming, through electronic signature, that they had checked them for accuracy. The information used for that inquiry was provided entirely by the customer and the inquiry was performed automatically before dealership staff even have access. Mr. and Mrs.’s allegations are both unfounded and disappointing. We do not owe these customers anything further and, barring further requests from this office, consider this matter closed.

I am rejecting this response because:

None of what the dealership said is true. Again, as seen in the screen shot provided, the sales price was advertised as $15,187. After test driving the unit, I was offered a sales price of $26,000. The only credit app that I signed, electronically or otherwise, was the one I submitted to the financing company prior to even looking at inventory online at the dealership. The dealership asked us for the information that would go on a credit application, but never produced a paper copy for us to review, let alone sign. How would we know that what was submitted was correct, as the salesperson never even showed us the computer screen they were typing on? I had assumed that my salesperson had gone to retrieve the document from the printer, but while away, I had received email notice from Experian that my credit had been run. That was when the salesperson came back with their offer of the $26,000 sales price and possible monthly payments. I am not confused. I was not expecting to purchase the vehicle with an out the door price of $15,187. There would be sales tax, doc fee, title and license, etc. All of which we would have paid and were accounted for in the preapproved financing we had. Again, the issue is that the dealership advertised the vehicle for a price at which they had no intention of selling the unit, and pulling credit information using information that was not properly reviewed or signed by myself or my spouse.

Since the dealership obviously has no intention of resolving the issue, my spouse and I will be filing a dispute with the credit bureaus for an unauthorized credit inquiry.

Sincerely,

Sherri
