I signed up to take a 10 week on-line training to become a paid advocate for special education. Here is what they listed regarding this course:
"Special Education Advocate Training System
A consecutive 10 week program providing comprehensive training to become a special education advocate. Participants will be provided with written materials, resource materials, weekly live webinar to review material, respond to questions, and discuss the practices and activities of special education advocacy."
I was concerned about the level of training or lack of after the first class. I withdrew from the course right before the 5th class was to start and asked for a refund. The class was not comprehesive, it was very basic and consisteted mostly of examples from the instructor's experience. The training was poorly done we NEVER received the written or resource material in time for us to review it before the class, most of the time we received it a couple of hours before the class. We never did receive it before the 5th class which prompted me to withdraw and ask for a refund. Some of the other issues with the class were: many links on their website or mentioned in the webinar were not working or not on their website, some information given out was incorrect (i.e.: regulations), the webinars were suppose to be posted and they never were (at least when I withdrew).
I sent an email on June 15 telling them I was not happy with the class and asked for a refund. There seemed to be no problem in getting my refund as long as I sent a letter with the reason why and my address and phone number and they would send a check. I responded on June 27 through email & letter because of an illness. I told them they had received all this information prior and that I thought they were making me go through hoops and that I didn't understand why they would send me a check instead of refunding the money the same way I paid (through a [redacted]). I also said that I expected the check by July 12. This is nearly one month since my original request.
As of today, July 14 I have not received the refund. I have copies of all e-mails sent and received if they are needed.
