I had insured with Fortress for 3 years. I called for a yearly rate review about a month early and recieved the quote 3 days before renewal. I was told that it was the best rate available so I mailed in my check. After checking another company I found the exact coverage with the same insurer for $1315 dollars cheaper. I contacted Fortress 3 days after the policy with them had started thinking they would prorate the policy and refund the difference. To my surprise and dismay they charged me $1541 dollars. I made the change even though I lost money for two reasons. 1st I naively thought Fortress was looking out for my interest which clearly they were looking out for themselves only and 2nd
the surchage of $1541 is undefenable. Technically legal but not ethical by my standards of conduct.
