National Benefit Life Insurance Company Reviews (5)

Customer service is poor. They also only accept mail payments, so are seriously behind the times.

Review: About seven years ago we received mail from NBL and signed up with them. My mother, [redacted] was the beneficiary of the policy and my sister, [redacted], was the owner. Two years later, I ([redacted]), was added to the insurance. We made me, [redacted], the beneficiary of [redacted]’s policy and [redacted] the beneficiary of my ([redacted]’s) policy. However, NBL made a mistake and they have been sending frequent bills to me, [redacted]. and I have been paying the bills, but we began to notice that I was paying much frequently than normal (more than the 4 times a year/quarterly system requires). (Note: Prior to adding me the billing was seemingly okay with regard to who being billed).

We contacted the company and they spoke in circles. No one ever knows anything and they are never able to confirm who the beneficiary on a policy is. Also, they do not have any way for us to go online and see our account or any statement. When we asked if they could send us a copy of our records and payment history, they said that they cannot do that. We have called numerous times and each time we call, they always have the wrong information despite the fact that we have completed a "change of ownership" once to fix the problem that they created. Yesterday (10/**/2013) we called again and the agent who spoke with us was confused, could not answer any questions and offered to send us ANOTHER “change of ‘ownership’ form". She placed us on hold, and a second later the line was cut and suddenly they were closed for the day…They are supposed to address the bill to the policy owner, so that each policy owner receives her own bill however, all of the bills come in one name. They have been billing me ([redacted]) frequently, and accepting multiple payments from her, and keeping extra money. This company is very suspicious and is not transparent at all. We are being cheated out of our hard-earned money and we know it. The fact that they refuse to answer any questions and tell us to call our own bank for a statement of what we've paid NBL is inane and insane! We would like all of our money back from the past 5 years because NBL is an unethical company.Desired Settlement: Please send us records of bill payments we have sent you and when.

Please fix the issue of sending all bills to [redacted]. [redacted] should be billed directly for the policy she owns (for which [redacted] is the beneficiary).

Dear [redacted]:

This is in response to your November *, 2013 inquiry on behalf of [redacted] regarding the above captioned policy.

Please be advised that policy number [redacted] was applied for in the attached application dated July **, 2007. This policy provided a $20,000.00 term life benefit.

In [redacted]'s correspondence, she indicates that she has been paying more frequently than dictated by the premium due. We have attached a premium history for her review. Please note that we offer coverage additions on our premium notices, and [redacted] has

taken advantage of these offers. Further, the policy offers a conversion to a whole life plan at age 25.

The offer of additional coverage or conversion is always made on the policy anniversary.

The premium notice sent to the policy owner at policy anniversary displays options in remitting premium payments - the payment may be made on an annual , (one bill in 12 month2) semi-annual ( one bill every 6 months) or quarterly (one bill every 3 months) basis.

Premium notices are mailed to the address of record, [redacted].

The change history is as follows:

[redacted] has accepted offers of increased coverage, and at policy conversion selected to remit payments on a quarterly mode. If she wishes to change the mode of payment, she may do so at policy anniversary by selecting any other mode of payment offered on her premium notice. The policy anniversary date is August * each year.

If there are any additional questions [redacted] should feel free to contact me directly at ###-###-####. We will be forwarding a copy of this correspondence and the attachments to her at the e mail address provided.

Sincerely,

Review: I have sent to the company for an explanation of why my sons life insurance was changed to whole life insurance. I did NOT authorize it and no one has gotten back to me except to send these bills wanting me to pay way more then I was without my consent. Please tell them to furnish me with proof I approved the change. And that they need better customer service or their just another shady business wanting our hard earned money.Desired Settlement: put the insurance back to where I had it unless they can prove they sent me verification on upgraded insurance along with the explanation of the charges for such. And don't use the excuse that they have terminated the insurance on my son [redacted] before doing this properly and fulfilling my request.

Response:

The conversion to whole life is contractual at age 25.

It took this company over 5 years to finally change my name after numerous times sending them a marriage certificate. Then, we would continually get the same bill for 6 months after the initial bill was paid. When my brother called to cancel his policy last year, they stopped sending my bills and cancelled mine, with no notice. I recently called them and they told me it wasn't their fault and because they did receive my payment this year, they cancelled mine, keeping the payout amount. They blamed me for it getting cancelled and that I should have called sooner. They took no blame and said they mailed it out and it was my fault if I didn't receive it.

Review: I had the policy on my son since he been in school he is in the army now for 7plus years he has his own policy I been trying to cash in the poilcythey said no since he is 25 years old now did not now this just trying to cash it in after all these yearsDesired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Other (requires explanation) DesiredSettlementID: Other (requires explanation)the cash value

Dear [redacted]:

We are writing in response' to your letter to the Revdex.com regarding the above captioned policy

A review of our policy records shows that policy #[redacted] was issued as a $10,000 Term Life effective March **, 2006. The policy provides term coverage up to the insureds age of 25. Please note, term life coverage does not accrue cash value.

The insured turned age ** on March **, 2013. Per terms of the policy contract (copy attached), the policy automatically converted to a whole life policy effective on the policy anniversary of March ** 2013.

Cash value begins to accumulate on the fourth year following the conversion date. Since the policy converted on March *, 2013, there is no cash value available. The policy is currently paid to June **, 2013. If you wish' to keep the coverage in force. you may do so by submitting the quarterly premium of $49.03 to pay premiums to September *, 2013. Should you wish to cancel this coverage, you may do so by sending that request to my attention.
