This complaint made by *** *** is not truthfulAfter reviewing, we have no record of her complaining about either of her two InstructorsHer reasoning for switching from the Boot Camp to the Fast Track course was noted because her grades weren't where she wanted them and the speed of the
course was too acceleratedWhich is why she was moved to the Taunton courseIt is policy to charge students a $transfer fee when they would like to switch classes for personal reasonsWhile involved in the Taunton Fast Track course, she did not reach out to any administration about her complaintOn the point of her saying she did not receive the services she paid for, that is also falseOur EMT courses do NOT certify people to become Emergency Medical TechniciansOur program satisfies one of the requirements it takes to get an EMT certification in the State of MassachusettsWe require students to maintain a course average to stay in the program and meet State requirementsStudents are told this during their time of enrollment, during the course by the Instructor, and it can also be found in their handbooks

*** did not reply with a valid response of why she was unsatisfied with our response to her complaint, therefore there is no further actions we can take to remediate the situation

12/14/- Mr*** *** did enroll into our day program starting on 12/21/However there was never any correspondence between *** and himself regarding missing three nine hour days when the program is only days longI myself have listened to the recorded phone lines for such
information but could not reveal such claim, nor would a long time employee ever have agreed to such terms as a 100% attendance is mandatory for all Massachusetts EMT programs.12/21/- Mr*** never showed up on 12/21/but was called several times to see if he was coming to the course but Mr*** never answered the phone or called us back12/28/Mr*** showed up at 9am for class and was told that he would not be allowed into this course due to the time he had missed in the course, he did at that time talk to the BLS Director *** *** to see if there was anyway to work this out and Mr*** said because you have already missed hours of a hour course that he thought it would be best to transfer into the next boot campI myself (*** ***, President) did speek to Mr*** but he never mentioned that he wanted his $back because we would not let him into the courseHe did however ask for the transfer fee to be waived and we granted a $transfer due to the lack of funds he said he had because he was joining the Peace CorpsAt this time he became irate and said that he no longer to talk to me and walked out of my building only to come back in and threaten going to the Revdex.comDuring enrollment and the application that was filled out he signed the following:The total fee is due in full by the first day of classThe application fee and the initial deposit are nonrefundable and must accompany the application when applying for a seat in our programDeposit MUST be in the form of a credit card, cash, or money orderPERSONAL CHECKS ARE NOT ACCEPTED.NO EXCEPTIONSA total of $is required to hold your seatSeats are filled in the order that deposits are receivedIt is important you return your application/deposit as soon as possibleYour Healthcare CPR fee is included in total fee and is non refundableState and National certification fee's are not included in the total fee and are the responsibility of the studentI understand and agree that I am entering an EMT training program sponsored by National EMS Institute IncI agree to pay tuition of $for the scheduled Fast Track course, the scheduled Boot Camp rate for this course, or the scheduled Hybrid/Online rate for this course, and realize that submission of this application and no-refundable fees commits me financially to a position in the programThis is evidenced by my signature on this dateI accept total full responsibility for payment for the program regardless of my status in the program

Regards,
[redacted]

In response to [redacted]s remarks I have to say that there is so much misinformation and complete exaggerations it is hard almost hard to read. To begin, the accounts of her experience in our 18 Day Boot Camp course is absolutely ridiculous. At National EMS Institute, [redacted], our BLS Director single handily trains over 250 students per year and you are the only person in 7 years to accuse him of being “rude and directing angry comments towards students”. [redacted] will definitely admit to swear during class-time, but the foul language has never been directed at students. [redacted] tells a tale of harassment and being mistreated. Harassment is defined as aggressive pressure or intimidation. At no point was any student pressured or purposely intimidated. The amount of volunteered extra time and effort our Instructors put in to accommodate our students needs and learning is tremendous. [redacted] has pointed out that in his course she did not once make an attempt to stay after or seek alternative help. [redacted] dropped his course after just one week of training. At that point, the course does not even get into practical training. Her recount of the “Friday afternoon” working through practicals did not even occur. Misquoting one of our Instructors in this manner is considered to be defamation of character and is completely unacceptable. There is a requirement under the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that EMTs are required to be able to lift 125lbs. That would allow two people carrying a stretcher to be able to accommodate a man up to 250lbs. Our Instructor [redacted] weighs under 180lbs making him a well within the parameters of a real patient on the stretcher. Moving on to [redacted]’s issues with [redacted] and the Taunton Day Fast Track program, she is complaining about the fact that [redacted] was writing people up if their grades reached below an 80%. This is not [redacted]’s rule; this policy is companywide. We hold our students to a high level of training to ensure that they are ready to move on to pass the exams administered by the State and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. [redacted] states that this policy is not noted, which it is, inside of our student handbook under “Academic and Performance Expectations”.  The fifth paragraph clearly states the programs requirements of an 80% average. The FEMA self-studies that she is referring to as an online class that is worth the weight of one exam. All of the exams averaged together is worth 30% of their grades. She not once, but twice would have had to sign an affirmation that she has read and reviewed our policies. [redacted] also alludes to an unstable learning environment in [redacted]’s course. The specific incident with the student [redacted] felt physically threatened by that student. Our Instructors are encouraged to take the matters out of the classroom and into the hallway in a neutral area to defuse the situation, which is exactly what he did. Our Instructors are not required to hand over any materials to students. Whatever they give you, (practice tests, quizzes, and even power point lectures) are out of the goodness of their hearts and them wanting to see their students succeed. On May 11, 2016 we receive a fax from a [redacted] Insurance Agency Inc., attached was a Commonwealth of Massachusetts Section 30 form. With deeper investigation, [redacted] was ineligible for the particular program she was enrolled in. To receive benefits under Section 30, students must be enrolled in a full time education program. [redacted] was not. The Taunton Day Fast Track course, is a part time program meeting only 20 hours a week. [redacted]’s father requested that [redacted] approve and sign the forms anyway so that his daughter would be able to continue to receive funding from the State. This is fraud. All of National EMS Institute’s Instructors and staff respect and enjoy working with students so they can grow into successful Emergency Medical Technicians. We do everything it our power to give students an enjoyable and safe learning environment. This account of our facilities is false and should not be a reflection of who we are as a company. I have attached a copy of our student surveys from [redacted]’s course to show that other students did not have a similar experience.

Let me be a little more clear here because according to your response you seem to be mis led.I did not pay for a certification program thinking I was guaranteed a certificate. I did enter the program with excitement, expecting to be treated with respect, dignity and fairness. This did not happen.I took the fast track program, knowing it would be difficult. As most accelerated programs have that reputation. The instructor "[redacted]" was known to have an extremely aggressive approach.1. His approach was negative, threatening and degrading. Under no circumstances with any field you are studying should you be told that you will not make it in the business and you will not last on an ambulance. This is for people WHOM PAID BIG MONEY to find out for themselves. Many people studying for this particular certification were doing it for personal reasons and or an extension of their current degree. Before spending over $1800 dollars I was very aware of what the class entailed.National EMT institute is by far one of the more expensive certificate programs for an EMT class. People are not paying to be harassed and mis treated and told they will not make it in the real world. Everyday for two weeks, "[redacted] used fowl language and directed his rude and angry comments towards students.I had one week left in the accelerated program. My average was a 78% which was undoubtedly higher than three quarters of the rest of the class. I stayed after and reviewed each of my tests with [redacted] to make sure I understood the ones I answered incorrectly. I would say this shows incentive to pass!It was a Friday afternoon in class while we were doing practicals: [redacted] was showing us how to use a stretcher. When it came my turn he said to me "what the fk are you doing?" "Didn't you just watch everyone else." Then proceeded to yell, "stop, I fking showed you the right way." This was in an overly aggressive tone and in front of the whole class. I felt about two inches high, as I have never touched a stretcher in my life. This behavior is singling someone out and it is against the law to use harassment and fear as a teaching technique.[redacted], also had everyone partner up in the class and two people were to lift him up onto the ambulance. [redacted] is not a small man. He had women who were maybe 100 pounds lifting him on a stretcher. Then openly making them feel bad about themselves because they could not handle the weight. (Once again this is not a part of the curriculum to prove to people, AFTER THEY PAY for the course that they are not worthy or capable of the job)I called [redacted] (Vice President) several, several times and left many messages trying to speak to her about how uncomfortable I felt in the class. She never returned my calls. My father knowing how I was being mis treated also reached out to [redacted] several times with no call back. I also left two voice messages for the owner on his school voicemail asking for a return call. My father as well, called the owner and left him more than one message expecting a call back to settle this matter. My father finally spoke to a newer employee that was driven to get a response from [redacted]. This man did hear all my complaints and has them documented. During this time, I did not want to lose my money or throw away my passion for becoming an EMT. I switched to another class, hoping the instructor would not have a harassing approach. [redacted], charged me the $250 transfer fee after speaking to this newer employee and was aware of the brutal language and the be lilting, [redacted] used as a teaching method. I started the second EMT class at a different location with a different instructor, expecting to be treated with respect, dignity and fairness. [redacted], was the instructor of this particular class.  A majority of this class had some medical field background. By the time we got the second test results people had averages of 50's to low 70's. We complained as a class and felt his "power point slides" and teaching had nothing to do with the questions being asked on the tests. [redacted], said because 85% of the class was not doing well he was going to start writing students up if they got below an 80% on the test. [redacted], explained that this would make people study and take the course more seriously. The problem wasn't the students studying. The problem was [redacted] and his lack of knowledge and incapabilities of teaching. [redacted] writing Students up after the first test was a new approach, an approach he chose to take that isn't written or spoke about in the "student handbook." You need to graduate with an 80% average. No, where in the handbook does it state that you must achieve an 80% on tests or you will be written up. It says cumulatively you need an 80% to pass the class.  Further, [redacted] said after 3 write ups you will be asked to leave the class. By the send test more than half the class was onto their second write up. There was an uproar in this class, people were going to be asked to leave a class before they were given the opportunity to achieve an 80%? I spent over three hours of my life on taking the required online classes we had to have finished by the end of the curriculum. This online class was worth 40% of your grade. According to the syllabus percentages, I would of passed with flying colors. Speaking to the class as a whole [redacted] explained that if you had below a 75% at this point you will not be able to catch up by the end of class. (This is an illegal statement) We had weeks left of class. Students were beyond angered with his comments. It got to the point where "[redacted]" the lead and test maker had to come in and watch and listen to the information [redacted] was putting out to the students. [redacted] pulled specific students aside and spoke to them individually one being "[redacted]."[redacted] a student and [redacted] the professor argued loudly in front of the class and because of the intensity had to take the argument outside. Would you consider this professional? Does this sound like a stable learning environment? As a class we had [redacted] committed to stay after and go over some scenario cases for testing purposes. This was suppose to happen on a Monday and he neglected to do so. I requested practice quizzes to study from for homework for myself and other students. He gave us a packet of information with no answer key. Whogives students who already have a bulk of reading to do and studying- a practice information packet with no answers to be found. These are students reaching out because they want to engage themselves and be taught because they feel this is lacking.I could go on and on with horrible teaching stories about these two professors. If you do need more information I would be happy to supply it. I will take this further than the Revdex.com if need be. I want a total refund including the transfer fee. The attorney general has been notified.

[redacted]

As an enrolled student at National EMS Institute, all students are required to take the State Practical exam for $175. This is explained in the course start paperwork that every student fills out and it is also listed on the application. If a student drops out past the point that exam fees are due,...

that is non refundable. We have to purchase the correct amount of examiners for the test based on the amount of students we have enrolled in the program.

Good morning [redacted], I understand your frustration however, we must stand behind our strict Withdrawal Policy. I am transcribing this policy for you below which can be found on our website under the "Refund & Transfer" tab. This policy is also on our EMT course application which every...

student reads when enrolling in our program. Since the application was filled out completely, that shows that you have read and understood this policy when you enrolled in our course.Official Withdrawal To qualify for the refund levels defined above, a student must officially withdraw from the course they are enrolled in. This can be done by submitting the following information within the timeframe identified above. 1. Letter of request for refund, explicitly stating the reason for withdrawal. 2. The name of the NEI course or training in which you are withdrawing. 3. The amount paid for the course. 4. The date payment was made for the course. 5. Acknowledgement that a $250.00 enrollment processing fee is not available for refund.  This must be sent to the National EMS Institute Headquarters in Carver, MA and must be postmarked 15 or 8 days prior to the first day of the training. This letter must come by [redacted] using a certified letter. The letter can be address to: National EMS Institute Inc. 90 Main St. Carver, MA 02330[redacted], you're letter did not come at all, never mind within the allotted timeframe prior to the course start date. [redacted] had requested the tracking information so that we would be able to verify that it was sent to us. Without a tracking number, we have no proof that the letter was sent on the appropriate day/time since it was not physically received. If you can locate the tracking slip from the [redacted], please do email a photo of that to [redacted] so we can rectify the situation. We do allow students a one time transfer to a new course if you are still interested in becoming an Emergency Medical Technician. Otherwise, we wish you the best!
