Hello [redacted], my name is [redacted] I own a heating and air conditioning company called National Heating in Lakewood and I received a letter that indicates a complaint from one of our customers dating back to Dec 17th 2016. I have never received this letter until just now, apparently the post...

office where we have our mail box witheld alot of our mail stating it was "too large" for our box and I had no notice of this. If I had received this letter before I would certainly have responded to it immediately. I am aware of this customer and I want the chance to respond to their complaint, I dont want any bad reviews because I work very hard to build a great reputation. if you look at my reviews you can see I do alot for my customers. Im honest and im fair and I do high quality work. Im an expert at heating and air conditioning service and repair. The customer [redacted] called me on an emergency "no heat" call for her oil furnace. After arriving and inspecting the oil furnace I could immediately see it was over 30 years old, maybe even 40 years old. I want to make it very clear that an oil furnace is a very dangerous appliance and kills people. It can kill people in multiple ways,  by fire, explosion or carbon monoxide poisoning. The average life span of a furnace is 15-20 years if its well maintained. [redacted]s furnace looks like it has not  been maintenance serviced ever.  The firebox was  deteriorating and it had fuel oil leaks in several places and had electrical control failure. The furnace was not running because it was off or "tripped" on a safety limit switch wich means there is a serious problem. the safety switch has a button that can be pressed to "reset" the switch and will turn the furnace back on, but the switch tripped for a reason and the problem needs to be fixed immediately before you attempt to turn the furnace on again or you risk killing people. I refused to push the reset button based upon the fact the furnace has a serious problem. I then advised the customer to replace the furnace based upon the extreme age, multiple oil leaks, cost to repair and overall condition. The customer stated that they didnt have much money so i gave them the option of buying a new furnace or a "rebuilt" furnace for half the price, both furnaces come with a 20 year warranty. I even offered them an easy monthly payment plan but they wanted to think about it wich is fine, i never pressure my customers. if you look at my reviews you can see the kind of service I give my customers. I then collected my service call fee and politely told them to call me if they had any questions and I left. Now here comes some unknown repairman behind me and also states that the furnace is very old and needs about $600 to repair it.He proceeds to turn on the furnace by pushing the tripped safety switch without correcting the problem, putting the customer at serious risk. Then he tells the customer it will cost $600 to fix it. I will never advise a customer to put $600 into a furnace thats 40 years old and in poor condition. I stick by my recommendations and im always polite and courteous. No one has ever or can ever accuse me of being a liar. I will be happy to refund the amount of the service call. But I strongly stand my ground on my decision and recommendations. Remember this, replacing an old dangerous furnace is not a bad decision its a good decision.
