National Home Shield Reviews (%countItem)

This company mails misleading and deceptive communications to homeowners implying that home coverage is lapsed. Letter is pink, appears to be a bill, and could mislead a consumer into thinking it is legitimate.

They sent a letter stating our home warranty coverage is going to laps. We realized after talking to them the next day they are not our company.
They use miss leading tactics stating we are renewing a policy with them. Come to find out our policy is not and never was with them. My wife spoke to someone named Rick. He signed her up for a new 3 year agreement to continue our warranty that we never had. She provided our debit card for a start up fee of 159 and then 164 a month for 18 months. They were very miss leading and never stated they are not our current warranty company that we got when we bought our home a year ago and it included a warranty.

Desired Outcome

I want a refund of our 159 and to have the policy cancelled. Also for them to stop their miss leading sales conduct.

National Home Shield Response • Jan 24, 2018

To whom it may concern:

*** was issued a refund on Dec. 11, 2018 for the full amount of $159.00 and at the same time we cancelled their policy per their request. This was one day after them requesting a refund. We apologize for any misunderstanding our advertising may have caused. We are an ethical company with a valuable product.

Warmest regards,

American Home Protect LLC repeatedly sends threatening/manipulative letters urging us to use purchase their home warranty.
The last letter we received from American Home Protect LLC arrived on January 6, 2018 in a envelope marked "SECOND NOTICE. DO NOT DESTROY". The letter is strongly worded in a threatening tone that is clearly intended to convince us that our home warranty has expired and that we are at risk. These letters are intentionally deceptive, manipulative, and misleading. This is a crude attempt to use legal jargon to threaten unsuspecting home owners into making an unnecessary purchase and potentially being taken advantage of. I have included the text of the letter below.

Received a "warning" letter concerning a supposed home warranty about to expire on a property in Michigan. This is a scam. No such home warranty exists. We have not contacted the company and have not provided any information to them.

Desired Outcome

No further contact by the busi Would like to see this company out of business. Just one more company looking to prey on older people looking for money and personal information.

This business is now operating at 2655 Ulmerton Rd #406, Clearwater, FL 33762.

American Home Protect LLC repeatedly sends threatening/manipulative letters urging us to use purchase their home warranty.

American Home Protection LLC sent us unsolicited letters advising us to contact them. They notice they sent was colored pink and used threatening language implying that coverage was expiring and we would be on the hook for the remainder of our home repair costs. My wife suffered extreme emotional distress until we were able to contact them and verify that they had no relationship with either our mortgage servicer (also based in Florida), our insurer, or the financial organization managing our home repair escrow account.

When we complained and asked not to be contacted further, the agent we were speaking to (Casey or something like that) became verbally abusive. After we hung up, she called us back TWICE, despite a reminder that we did not want to be contacted.

Desired Outcome

No further contact by the busi Written apology and promise to be more ethical in your solicitation practices in the future.

I received the same deceptive, unethical letter from this company that others have reported. Bright pink, official looking letter, written in a voice of a warning notice. I not only do not have a home warranty plan with this company, I do not have one with any company. The letter is written in intentionally misleading language that could easily convince someone with a home warranty that their account is in arrears or in jeopardy of expiring. These are despicable and predatory tactics, and I figure the more people that report it and speak out against it, the more likely others can avoid being scammed by this unscrupulous company.

American Home Protect, LLC has sent us numerous letters explaining to us that our Home Warranty policy could expire soon. They continue to state, "Failure to call and prevent a potential lapse of coverage could result in you being liable for all costs associated with any home repairs." The complaint arises from the misleading language. For example, using "Failure to Call" may mislead homeowners in singing up for coverage even though they may not actually have a lapse in coverage or a liability of costs associated with home repairs.

Desired Outcome

No further contact by the busi No further contact by the business

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)

American Home Protect sends out misleading contact letters that imply that you have an overdue account with the company. These are written on red paper, and lead with the sentence "This is our second attempt to contact you," implying that the receiver is arrears on an existing account. There is also a Failure to Call notice, which also implies that the recipient has been lax in follow up, followed by another sentence with a phone number implying that failing to call could create a "lapse in coverage" according to the letter.

The entire approach seems to be to dun someone into thinking they're overdue on an existing account with American Home Protect. I actually have a home warranty with American Home Shield, and it's easily confused with the title of this company. The entire approach seems to be to confuse the recipient.

Desired Outcome

No further contact by the busi I want no further contact from this company, with the possible exception of a written apology for its underhanded tactics. I'm sure there a numerous seniors who would be highly intimidated by such an approach.

American Home Protect (which has a similar name to many companies) is a home warranty (not a home insurance company) which mailed me FIVE pink letters trying to seem like they were my home warranty company. They used my bank name and other public records re my new home to try to get me to take the solicitation seriously. I didn't. This company is abusing public records.

Since folks have several companies to get insurance and home warranties and companies are underwritten by others... names blur after a year. American Home Protect tries to get you to consider their company by acting like they ARE your current company. I didn't fall for this - though others almost did... See the First Community Bank's warning on Facebook... the Bank called it a SCAM...

I called and talked with American Home Protect and they were extremely rude, telling me to read the letter. They did not apologize for the sleazy marketing NOR mailing to me four times... I asked the company to remove my contact information. I still got ANOTHER MAILING.

American Home Protect is a Missouri based corporation with a Clearwater, Florida address. There are several "listings" on Revdex.com. The company has not been approved by the Revdex.com. Hopefully, it won't ever be given how they market their business and treat potential customers.

Desired Outcome

Modification/discontinuance of Please post my warning. Please do not consider American Home Protect as a company worthy of being approved by the BBS. Please contact the company, ask them to stop abusing public information, doing excessive mailings to consumers, and note the poor customer service I received.

National Home Shield Response

Customer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
American Home Protect's response at least says they will stop the endless mailings I am getting (after 4-6 weeks)! However, their wording again is deceptive saying the company protects American's homes - it is a home WARRANTY company not a home insurance company. So they protect your appliances. I had no misunderstandings of their poor marketing - it is a scam - and I never used the company.
The canned response received from American Home Protect does not lead me to think the company will change any deceptive and aggressive marketing to "potential" customers. I do not recommend working with this company.

National Home Shield Response • Jan 05, 2018

Dear Sir,

The reason we give the 4 to 6 week time frame is due to the fact mail that is already in the postal system can't be stopped. We do not want to further upset consumers by saying we took them off the list only to have them get a letter that was already in the postal system. We are an ethical company with a valuable product, not a scam.

Sincerely,

Canned response again - does not address the ethical concerns addressed.

This company sent a letter packaged in a legal envelope saying that this was a "second attempt" to contact us and that "Failure to Call" would result in lapse and liability. "It is important for you to contact our firm at 1-888-446-4494 within 10 days of receiving this form. It took us a minute to see that this was just some aggressive, fear-based marketing tactic by a company with whom we have no relationship. I am saddened that their deceptive approach probably ropes people in.

Horrible company. I have never experienced such terrifying customer service. Not only did none of the issues I had that they could have covered were acknowledged but I was verbally abused and hung up on by their customer service representative. I also found out that this company generally has very bad reviews so I guess it's the perfect testimony of the veracity of this account.

I have been with national home shield for about a year, I've paid a little over 2,000 for home warranty insurance I have about 1,000 mote to pay in the next 6 months. I called to inquire about canceling my policy. I haven't made any claims. I ask how much of my money will I get back if I cancel, the rep tells me he can't tell me that's something an administrator would have to tell me. I ask to speak to an administrator, he further tells me. I can't speak to them, I will have to wait 21 days to find out how much of my over 2,000 I will get back if I cancel. Lastly I ask will it be mailed to me so I can have it in writing. I'm told no he'll call me back. What type of business is this? I won't patronize this company again that's for sure. Highway robbery

National Home Shield Response

We went back to listen to the calls that this customer had with our company. Our company rep was thorough and professional on the entire call. Even though we told him it could take up to 21 days to hear back from the Administrator on the final refund amount, we called him back within two days with the prorated refund amount and he decided to stay enrolled in the program.

This company sends advertisements disguised as notices threatening a potential lapse of home warranty coverage to people who are not consumers.
American Home Protect, LLC, a/k/a AHP, LLC, a Missouri corporation, sends notices from *** threatening lapse of coverage of a home warranty policy. They have the consumer's name, address, home purchase and mortgage company information.

If you call them at X-XXX-XXX-XXXX, they state that the homeowner was "gifted" a policy that is included in the homeowner's purchase kit from their real estate agent. When asked for a copy of the policy, they state that you do not actually have a policy, that no company would give a copy of a policy without receiving a down payment first, and that the customer is on a recorded line, and that they will not allow the customer to "waste their time".

The company is sending threatening first and second notices repeatedly to the homeowner, which are actually advertisements at best and scams at worst. They should be investigated and prevented from harassing homeowners through the mail.

Desired Outcome

See complaint details above.

MISLEADING letters being sent by American Home Protect, LLC!!! BEWARE!!!! Bright pink paper, indicating they have made several attempts to contact me regarding the Lapse of warranty on my home. They even list my mortgage company by name on the letter, making it as convincing as possible, and as easy as possible to try to scam home owners!! FAILURE TO CALL*** paragraph for that extra convincing boost!! PEOPLE BEWARE PLEASE! DO NOT CALL THEM and by all means DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION!! Read the fine print!!

Same as other reviews. They sent me a fairly convincing letter, and even a second "Final Notice: Take action immediately" letter stating I should call to avoid a "potential lapse of warranty coverage". In the letter it also says:

Failure to Call
Failure to call and prevent a potential lapse of coverage could result in you being liable for all costs associated with any home repairs.
It is important for you to contact our firm at 1-877-407-3890 within 10 days of receiving this notice to avoid any unnecessary delays in your coverage.

To me the letter is forceful, misleading, and even deceptive. Shame on them for thinking something like this is ok.

I keep receiving unwanted solicitation letters for coverage.
I keep receiving unwanted solicitation letters for coverage. There is no way to contact American Home Protect, LLC without calling them.

Desired Outcome

I would like to be removed from the American Home Protect, LLC mailing list so that I no longer receive their advertisements.

National Home Shield Response

Good morning Mr. D

We apologize for any inconvenience our advertising may have caused you. We will be more than happy to remove you from our mailing list. Please allow four to six weeks for any mail that may be in progress.

Warmest regards,

Corinne M

This company was initially forced upon my life when we purchased our home. The only thing we ask for was a good home warranty. We had to file a claim not long after moving in because the sewer line back up into the house and the water heater stopped working. This company did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but tell us that we were not covered for such issues. I called about our refrigerator also and was told they would not cover it either. WHAT DID YOU COLLECT MONEY FOR? I will never forget nor forgive.

This a SCAM/FRAUD company!! They sent a letter saying that my home insurance was expiring because they state to be related to my Realty Company. Actually I never had this contract before. They saying you can cancel any time but they won't cancel no matter what you do.

American Home Protect is mailing our customers (Community Bank of Trenton) saying their home warranty coverage is expired with the banks name on it. We have no affiliation with American Home Protect. We told them a few years ago to stop doing this and its still happening.

Desired Outcome

Modification/discontinuance of We want no affiliation with American Home Protect. Our bank name should not be on their mailers. They do not have our approval or any contractual arrangement with us.

National Home Shield Response

To whom it may concern;

There are several local lenders on our advertisement that our customers may owe money to. Please note it was not our intent to target your bank or cause any discomfort. This is the first that we have heard of this as we were not even in business several years ago. We will be more then happy to remove the name from our advertising immediately. Please allow four to six weeks for any previously processed mail for this to be complete. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience.
