I had a billing/collection issue with Nationa Jewelry & Pawn on 05/02/2016. I filed a complaint about the issue on 05/05/2016 and was contacted by the store manager; [redacted] the following day 05/06/2016 the issue was resolved on 05/07/2016 by him in a friendly and respectful way. He took the time to go over my receipts and explained them one by one until I had a clearer understanding about how the process work. I was given two $20 store coupons and $25 in cash. I also received a follow up call from the store general manager; Sam H. the following Monday 05/09/2016 to make sure I was satisfied and pleased with my out come. He also offered me a $75 store coupon for my experence. The company seemed very concerned about my issue and went above and beyond of what I expected and I really appreciate them for it.

Wrote ticket wrong, would not correct. Charged extra interest.Took 300 to pay part of loan. Told me to come back with all of it. Came back and penaltyTook a camera lense to the store. Got a loan. Went back 2 days later and increased the amount of the loan. Told the associate to write another ticket. She wrote it as one an said it was the same. I took her at her word, which happens to be incorrect as I find out. When they increased the amount they took the interest from the first loan, combined it with the principle and then added then extension to it, and then charged interest on the new ticket. I borrowed 400... My ticket says I borrowed 424.50 which is a flat lie. I went in 10 days later with 300 to pay off te interest and part of the principle to lower the interest until I got the rest. Manager told me to come back with the full amount so that I wouldn't pay as much interest. I come back with the full amount 6 days after their grace period only to be told I am charged full interest on the phony balance they gave me and then interest on 524$ principle.. So I get charged 630 for borrowing 400. Should have been 524 which I was happy to pay but they hide behind their "policy" and told me lies. I read theback of the ticket and their is no indication as to how much interest they can charge. It says they earn interest if the payment is late but it doesn't clarify as to how much. They could claim a dollar for the late interest or they could charge 1000, there is no limit. These people are keniving manipulators who's only goal is to get your money Desired SettlementI am seeking 100$ for the interest they charged after lying to me and not fixing their mistake. If they do not want to agree to that then small claims is my next course of action where I will sue for 800$ for money owed. Full rembursement for the entire loan and then the rest for my time and court costs. Please help get this resolved.Business Response /[redacted]/Contact Name and Title: [redacted], PresidentContact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXXContact Email: [redacted]@pawndeals.comWe contacted our customer immediately and resolved this problem to his satisfaction. National Pawn charges interest and fees as allowed by N.C. General Statute 66-393. We did not overcharge this customer. We did find that we could have done a better job in explaining the charges to our customer. We recognize the importance of having valued customers such as Mr. [redacted] and as such offered him a refund of far more than he requested. We regret that this situation even went as far as him having to make a complaint. We trust that he will remain one of our valued customers.Consumer Response /[redacted]/Very professional and resolved the issue promptly. Solid business, will return.Final Consumer Response /[redacted]/

Our $1 price is for single movie DVD's or "normal" as you referred to them. Box sets should be priced as a set. If this box set was not priced, we have no problem with selling it to you at the $4 price. We value your business, so of course we have no problem in refunding your money. I also apologize that it has come to this level. This is a very simple issue that should have been handled at the store level. For that, we also apologize. Thank you for your business.Consumer Response /[redacted]/manager was real nice, gave full refund and 20$ worth of free coupons and I got to keep the dvds as well, no more service is needed, I got everything I wanted and it was real nice :)Final Consumer Response /[redacted]/

reported this place about unfair pawning pricing then got a response from the business manager saying "come back and I will fix everything" we came back and was offered LESS then what we were offered originally and they broke the box from mint condition to unusable, they are now responsible and I want them charged with "destruction of property" the box is now ripped nearly to shreds and was not like that when we got there, I want to sue and charge them with neglect and I want my money I SHOULD have gotten in the first place, they also are selling dvds that are unusable for high prices, I found at least 5 box sets with scratched dvds for 6$ a box set, that is illegal as well, and I can charge them with that, I want this resolved and I do not care if that means legal fees. I was lied to by the manger and my property was destroyed with no apology or money back.Desired Settlementwant a replacement for my property and a full apology as well as some free credit for the store that I deserve or I WILL sue.Business Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted], PresidentContact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXXContact Email: [redacted]@pawndeals.comThis gentleman brought in an off-brand DVD player and wanted us to pay $10 for it. We generally sell similar ones for $9.88 so we offered him $5 as we have to resell it and guarantee it so we must make a profit. The customer got upset and left. He subsequently filed a complaint stating that we "Illegally offered him too low of an amount." In an effort to offer World Class Customer service, our store manager, [redacted] called the customer and spoke with the customer's father. Our manager told the customer's father to have this gentleman come back in and we would see what we could do. Evidently this customer came back in and now is stating that we broke the cardboard box that the DVD player was in. I do not know the specifics of this charge. I apologize if he is upset. If he will come in and bring his father with him and see our manager, Mr. [redacted] we will pay him the $10 for his DVD player. National Pawn does business under the utmost ethical standards. We take all matters seriously. It is very upsetting to us for anyone to accuse us of doing anything illegal, especially when such charges are for laws that are unknown to us such as "Illegally offering too low of an amount," and "Illegally selling DVD's with a scratch on it." We warranty all of our merchandise. We have been in business for almost 30 years and have tens of thousands of repeat customers. We would not be in business as such if we were paying too little or selling unusable merchandise. Consumer Response we tried to settle this with the manager but he was not there and when we went to the pawn store and brought the thing to get our 10$ we were promised they offered us only 4$, we were promised 10$ because we were un fairly given the wrong price and when we came back they acted like we NEVER talked to the manager and when we mentioned that we did they told us we were lying and only offered us 4$ for a product that is sold for 30$ brand new,not only that they destroyed the box and gave it back to us all destroyed so I am trying to get the business sued for "Destruction of property" they destroyed the box and did not even offer us the 10$ because THEY destroyed the box, we came in with it completely intact but when offered 4$ and we took it back we saw the box had been torn to near shreds and when we commented they refused to pay for it with any money at all,I demand my 10$ and a apology for them destroying my product,my father is having to buy it off me for 15$ because your business destroyed the box making it un sell able, I was going to go to craigslist to try and sell it but because your employee destroyed the box it is not sell able in any condition now, and I was NEVER offered a warranty at all for any dvds, when I tried to return a dvd to the pawn store I was always told "sorry no returns or refunds" ,not only do you have scratched up disks that dont work you have BOOTLEG dvds that are against the law to see, I find blank dvds with the movie title on them with sharpie written on them all the time, those are not legal to sell at all, so in the end I want a apology for the destruction of my property, I want my 10$ because its 1/3rd of the price its worth and I want you to put up a sign saying about refunds, because normal pawn stores have a "you have 7 days to return any dvd or bluray should something go wrong" but when I try to do that they tell me "no refunds or returns after buying from us",I will get a lawyer and sue you for destroying my property if I do not get all 3 things resolved, you are a pawn store and have no excuse to not 1.not buy something thats only been used once for 1/3rd AT LEAST 2.have employees destroy your property and then offer EVEN less then we were last time and 3.have a no refund or return policy when your dvds are in non working condition.Final Business Response We have TRIED to address this issue. This customer was told to speak with [redacted] the manager. Mr. [redacted] is the only one that can handle this matter. PLEASE call the store and make arrangements to come when Mr. [redacted] is there. If you have purchased a DVD from us that does not work, please return it for exchange. We will also gladly offer you a refund if you have the receipt. This gentleman brought in an off-brand DVD player and wanted us to pay $10 for it. ARBITRARY AND DISCRIMINATORY PRACTICESi WENT TO FRIENDLY JEWELRY AND PAWN, LOCATED AT 2731 DURHAM-CHAPEL HILL BLVD, DURHAM, NC 27707 ON 07/17/2015. I PAWNED 3 RINGS FOR A $300 LOAN. on 10/17/2015, I PAID $66 AS FEE. ON 10/30/2015, I WENT BACK, TO REDEEM THE ITEMS. I WAS READY TO PAY $432 FOR THAT. THEY WANTED $66 MORE THAN THAT, THOUGH A NEW PERIOD WAS NOT COMPLETED AND THEY GIVE PAYMENT EXTENSIONS TO OTHER CUSTOMERS. SO, I JUST PAID $132. THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEED $356 TO GET THE ITEMS OUT. ON 11/25/2015, I WENT THERE WITH THAT AMOUNT. THEY WANTED ANOTHER $56. SO, I JUST PAID $56. SOME OF THE EMPLOYEES WERE LAUGHING AT ME BEHIND MY BACK.THEIR PRACTICES ARE SO ARBITRARY. ON THE BACK OF THE SLIPS, THEY CLAIM THAT THEY DO IT BY 30-6O-90 DAYS. BUT THEY DO NOT APPLY THOSE DEADLINES. THEY ALSO GIVE DISCOUNTS TO SOME CUSTOMERS THAT PAY WITHIN 14 DAYS. NOTHING IS PRINTED ABOUT THAT. THEY ALSO CLAIM THAT THEY GIVE 4-DAY EXTENSIONS TO CUSTOMERS. NOTHING IS PRINTED ABOUT THAT. ALL THOSE ARE "CATCHES".Desired SettlementTO GET MY ITEMS BACK FOR A REASONABLE AMOUNT, THAT CAN BE JUSTIFIED AND IS NOT ARBITRARY AND IDSCRIMINATORY.Business Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted], PresidentContact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXXContact Email: [redacted]@pawndeals.comNational Pawn does not discriminate nor do we arbitrarily charge our customers. National Pawn is tightly regulated by the State and charges interest and fees as set out in N.C. General Statute 66-393. We employ a sophisticated computer system that tracks such charges. In an effort to provide world class customer service we have reached out to this loyal and long term customer and have come to an agreement that she is satisfied with. I am sorry that this escalated to the point in which she felt she had to file a complaint as this easily could have been resolved.
