National Medical Reviews

National Medical Reviews (aka NMR, Inc.) holds itself out as an independent review intermediary for helath insurance companies. However, my insurer denied a medication prescribed by my child's physician- opting for a cheap generic alternative. I disputed this becasue the policy said if 2 of the 4 recommended generics could not be tolerated by my child then the insurance would pay for the name brand. I supplied the pharmacy information indicating that 3 of the 4 alternatives wer not suitable for children my child's age, thus not able to be tolerated. NMR ignored the policy language and the parameters of the review it was to conduct and upheld the inurer's decision because 1 of the 4 generics could be tolerated. To igniore the express terms and conditons of the very inquiry NMR was to conduct exemplifies this businesses unprofessionalism and exemplifies that this business is NOT neutral but rather sides with the insurance company in any way it can. This is deeply concerning since NMR is making decisons that affect the healthcare of adults and children. In addition, NMR based its decison on a doctor it retaioned to render NMR's opinion, however, NMR refused to identify the doctor for me and its doctor cited 3 footnotes in his/her opinion- 2 of the footnoted articles were irrelevant to my issue and the 3rd footnote article actually supported MY poisiton. Evidently, NMR and its expert did not think I would look uo and read the footnoted articles. This company is founded by a physician himself and he should be ashamed of the anti-patient position it takes shearly in the name of profit from the insurance industry. Pennsylvania should be ashamed such a business exists in its fine state.
