National Student Clearinghouse Reviews (63)

Review: Students National Clearinghouse is publishing inaccurate/false information regarding a college they allege I attended. This has caused me problems when enrolling in my other college. I fixed the problem at the university level, showing documentation that I never attended a "[redacted] College". Students National Clearinghouse is failing to correct its records or even acknowledge my complaint. I have contacted them by phone and email.Desired Settlement: I request the information be corrected and that [redacted] College is removed from that record. I have not transcripts from nor have I ever attended [redacted] College.

January 29th, 2014Dear [redacted]:This is in response to your letter concerning [redacted].The National Student Clearinghouse serves as an institution's authorized agent to perform compliance reporting and verification services on their behalf. The data contained in Clearinghouse systems has been provided directly by the institutions and ultimately belongs to the participating Clearinghouse institution, therefore the Clearinghouse cannot remove this information without the institution's consent. Regarding the data in our system for [redacted], this information was provided by the institution on multiple occasions. In order to remove this information from our system, the institution must provide confirmation directly to the Clearinghouse that the student never attended the institution, as the data maintained belongs directly to the institution itself. We recommend that [redacted] contact the institution directly to obtain a letter that confirms that this student did not in fact attend their institution. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused [redacted] and hope the customer will follow up with the institution to have their record removed.Sincerely,Grace SSupervisor, Compliance Assurance

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: Students National Clearing House has been provided proof that I did not attend this college or have transcripts from this college. I'm a Veteran with 10 years active duty service in the Army attending a University and will soon be attending graduate school. This issue causes me great trouble when the Universities want a transcript from a college I do not have transcripts from. Attached are the same two letters from [redacted] College that have been provided to Students National Clearing House. Until now my telephone and written complaints have went unanswered by Students National Clearing House. This is causing a negative impact on my education through no fault of my own by Students National Clearing House providing false information.

June 26th, 2014Dear [redacted]:This is in response to your letter regarding [redacted]'s rejection of our original response regarding his record at [redacted] College. The data the Clearinghouse holds is data provided directly to us by our participating institutions and cannot be completely removed from our systems, as it is not our data and must be retained for audit purposes. We did phone the Registrar's office at [redacted] College and the situation seems to be a bit more complicated than explained in the original complaint. The school requested that [redacted] contact them directly so they can work together to resolve the situation.lf [redacted] College chooses to make a change to [redacted]'s enrollment, they will need Clearinghouse directly and we can work with them to update the enrollment record.Sincerely,

to me

[redacted],

I contated the Virginia Attorney Generals office, and a Ms. D[redacted] worked the case there. National Students Clearinghouse has since updated their records. They provided false or misleading information regarding this whole case. The [redacted] College Dean of Students, [redacted], and the Registrar, [redacted], were unaware why National Students Clearinghouse was providing information to the Revdex.com and to the Virginia AG's office about someone from [redacted] College instructing them to not change my enrollment status. As of today, the issue is resolved, though I would like to reiterate in no way did National Students Clearinghouse make a good faith effort to resolve this. They were caught in a lie and still failed to provide the name of whom from [redacted] College was instructing them not to change my enrollment status. Anyways, the issue is resolved, just wanted you to be aware whether it was on purpose or accident National Students Clearinghouse was providing false information in their responses.

Review: On Monday, 6/24/2013 at 4:03 p.m. I ordered two copies of my transcripts from National Student Clearinghouse. At around 6:30 p.m. on Monday 6/24/13, I received a text message informing me that they were unable to process my order due to a problem with the learning institution I had attended and to contact them. I contacted the learning institution and had them correct the error with my record. On Tuesday, 6/25/2013 at 11:15 a.m. I went on-line to www.studentclearninghouse.org and placed the order for my transcript. Within a few minutes of each other the following day, I recieved two e-mails, with different order numbers, informing me that my transcript order had been processed and my credit card charged. I checked my credit card and had been charged twice and sent four transcripts because they filled the order from 6/24/2013 (order #[redacted]) and the order from 6/25/2013 (order #[redacted]). I contacted them and informed them that order #[redacted] was supposed to replace order #[redacted]. They told me my only option was to contact the university. The reason I felt that the first order was cancelled, is that on the monring of 6/24/2013, I had placed the original order, received the same text message about a problem, and they cancelled the order. On the afternoon of 6/24/2013, I received the text message stating there was a problem and they did NOT cancel my order. Their text messages are purposely obtuse and misleading about what is expected of the purchaser and what they are supposed to do (i.e. cancel the order to avoid being double charged). At no time did they mention that they would go back and fill the original order once the issue with the learning institution was resolved.Desired Settlement: I would like for National Student Clearninghouse to refund the $18 dollars they charged for filling both orders.

I am rejecting this response because:

I received an e-mail was sent by the school on July 3rd, instructing the company to process a refund of $18 to my account. I received a copy of an e-mail claiming that a refund had been processed and should show up on my next statement (see below). I check my statement today and no refund has been applied. I even called the credit card company direct and asked them if there was ANY refunds pending on my account, but there was NO REFUND. I have e-mailed **. [redacted] asking about the status of the refund, however she has not responded to my e-mail. The company has NOT refunded my $18 dollars and I will now accrue interest charges on this $18 because they did not do what they said they would do.

Subject: RE: Clearinghouse online customer service form - Other TO REFUND

Review: I ordered a transcript through this company to go to a school I am currently enrolled in. The transcript has not been received. I ordered two and both went to the same school yet neither have been retrieved. I've emailed them and asked is there a way to change the email....there isn't.... I've emailed and requested a refund. They tell me that I need to call [redacted] College and tell them to refund my money yet I did not pay [redacted] College for the service and [redacted] College says that the refund comes from this company. I'm tired of the emails with no real solution to this problem.Desired Settlement: I would like them to change the email or refund my money. They can see where the document was never retrieved because they send emails saying that both of them have not been received. And when a customer asks for a refund they should do better at honoring it. I've emailed. I have called and it's all the same. I'm getting the runaround for no reason.

October 8th, 2014 Dear [redacted],This is in response to your letter concerning [redacted].The National Student Clearinghouse serves only as the web order management agent of academic institutions but does not process or send transcript orders. Orders are forwarded to the institution for fulfillment. Orderers can track the status of their orders on the web. If the order is not delivered within the time expected by the ordered and the web indicates that the order has been filled by the education institution, the orderer is directed to contact the school so that they can work together to complete the process. The Clearinghouse at no time has possession of any transcripts and does not fill transcript orders directly. Our records indicate that [redacted] placed her initial order on 9/5/2014. The transcript was sent to the school on 9/5/14. The transcript is showing as retrieved electronically by the school on 9/18/2014. [redacted] then placed a second order for a transcript on 9/11/14, which was sent to the school the same day. Our records indicate that this order was not retrieved by the school. [redacted] placed a third order on 9/16/2014, which was subsequently cancelled by [redacted] College. As stated in the above paragraph, the Clearinghouse serves only as the web order management of the transcripts. We cannot modify orders after they are placed. In addition, we do not, at any time, have possession or control of the transcript. In order for [redacted] to receive a refund for her transcript orders, she will need to contact [redacted] College. The Clearinghouse cannot authorize a refund on transcript orders without the school's permission or request. As our records indicate that the first transcript was received, we will not be providing [redacted] with a refund. We do apologize for any inconvenience and encourage [redacted] to reach out to her institutions in the future regarding the status of the transcripts.Sincerely,Grace SSupervisor, Compliance Assurance
