#***. NYS forms team by closest school and zip codeWe take children by sport and by age and form teams by geographic regionWe use the parents zip codes to form the teamsThat does NOT mean every parent on the team will be from the same zip codeSometimes we have a perfectly formed teams with neighbors, and sometimes teams are made up of parents within a mile radiusEach season varies depending on the amount of registrants we get from each side of townNYS also rents gyms from the school disticts here in SA, so teams may be required to drive a little if they want to use a gymTeams can always practice outside if the gym is too farNYS San Antonio covers over miles, so we do our best to form teamsIf for some reason we are not able to accommodate parents with a team in their area we do refund the parents and apologize there was nothing available. The individual who filed this complaint caused a lot of drama at the Parent Team Meeting and every day afterShe demanded to be on a certain team that was full and then decided to contact teams on her own to find out which one was acceptable for her daughterShe berated NYS Staff and coaches and is not welcome backThe team we assigned her to was the closest available team (Practicing miles from her house according to google maps.)Since she was not happy with it, we refunded her in FULLI would also like to note that our coaches are volunteers and mentioning their names in this complaint is tasteless and I hope this does not hit your site in any wayI am ok with my name being mentioned in a negative light, but *** *** and *** *** are volunteers and they had absolutely nothing to do with thisThey are simply volunteering their time and are awesome coaches. Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: the comments that [redacted] makes are lies. The team he offered my daughter wasn't the closet geographical team available. On the website,it says you will play within your zipcode. I didn't berate anyone at the meeting. When I arrived at the meeting;it was chaos, nothing had been organized :the schools hadn't been rented, color jerseys weren't selected, and teams weren't finalized.
Why even ask for a person's zipcode if you don't care about finding a team within their zipcode? [redacted] is rude, disrespectful and doesn't know how to run a business properly. If he is so good,which.he.isn't, why.doesn't he hire real coaches. I imagine he doesn't know how. If you are signing up for a league, when you go to the initial meeting, everything should be organized: teams, practice locations, Jersey colors, days of practice. Instead, when we went,;we found chaos. I went up to the lady to ask to change teams and it took forever. They said,"they would call on monday",but they didn't. So, I called and found another team and spoke to the coach. I told him we would play.  The following week, the coach told me her name wasn't on the roster. I was wondering why. [redacted]'s ridiculous answer was I have girls that want to play and never once followed up to see if I had spoken to the new coach and how it went. The company is not run well...I hope the public goes elsewhere for youth sports because this is a bad choice,

NYS will gladly give this customer a refund. Unfortunately we did not have enough kids sign up for the sport (8 man tackle football) in which they registered nor did we have enough kids in this customers zip area to form a team. Obviously we have no control over enrollment. We did try to place this...

child in 11 man tackle football since that is what over 99% of the participants wish to do. We even had a certified coach contact the family to see if it would work. Obviously it didn't. We will get a refund to this customer in the next week to 10 days. Best regards, NYS

NYS DOES NOT PUT YOUR CHILD'S SAFETY FIRST! I filed a complaint about eight months ago with NYS, (Mesa,AZ location) after the coach's wife started cursing at me after I disagreed with how her husband was playing the game. After the game she got in my face in a threatening manner while still cursing at me. My twin boys saw her and both became scared. I told the coach that we would not return and immediately sent an email to NYS.

I sent an email to the president, and the sports coordinator, Tara. I have sent several emails and never received a response!

Prior to this incident, there was another parent who called NYS to complain about how the coach was coaching our kids and the coach's wife became so irate that she threaten to beat that parent down. She made the statement in front of me, my husband, and some of the other parents. She also made defamatory statements about this parent.

I am disgusted that this organization for children, would allow this type of behavior to continue around OUR CHILDREN!!! My kids were frighten, they have NEVER seen an adult behave that way and NYS did nothing to see that this will never happen again!

Review: Our son was signed up with NYS flag football for 1 week. At his first game the coach was extremely inappropriate towards the kids and parents on the opposing team. He was using profanity, telling his kids to "hurt" the other team. When a parent from the other team called him out on his behaviors he started a yelling match on the sideline while the game was still going on. We asked Mr. [redacted] the league director for a refund, he said he would only give us a credit Towards NYS. We told him we are not interested in enrolling our son in another one of their programs to which he said that was too bad, that's all he would do.Desired Settlement: Refund Please.

Response:

Hello,

the following is a conversation Mr. [redacted] and I. The conversations took place between January 17th and January 22nd.

From Mr. [redacted]:

"My son [redacted] is no longer on the team because of the actions of last week's game. [redacted] told me you would be getting back to me, however, that didn't happen. Please refund my money. I am extremely disappointed in the behavior and sportsmanship is definitely not happen.

Thank you!"

"Mr. [redacted],

I received a refund for my son [redacted] (no baseball), however, I'm still waiting for the refund for my son [redacted].

Thank you"

My response to Mr. [redacted]:

"Hello,

I'm sorry to hear that the first week was not a pleasant experience for you. I was made aware of the incident that took place at Morse high school.

I immediately addressed this with both coaches and warned them that the behavior they exhibited would not be tolerated and they would be suspended if such incident occurred again.

In regards to your request for a refund, we can only give you a credit that's good for a year or transfer you to another team.

Football is a passionate sport and we have passionate coaches, we, as adults, have to remember that this is a youth sports league and our main priority is the kids safety, and for them to enjoy being part of a team.

Let me know how you would like to proceed with your child's registration.

Thank you for your time."

Mr. [redacted]:

"Mr. [redacted],

Unfortunately that is not an option. We do not want our son to be part of any of the NYS programs. We found another program that is about teaching young athletes how to play respectfully and how to show sportsmanship. The actions of those involved are completely unacceptable and I have a hard time believing that this hasn't happened before nor can you promise me that this will not happen again. My 8 year old son doesn't need to be yelled at during a football game, nor should he have to listen to immature grown men talk in that manner around young children. He is 8, not 16, not 20, not 30! I have a hard time believing that you can't refund my money. You may not want to, but can't? If you are unable to, please give me a number to someone I can speak with to insure that a refund happens!

Thank you"

My response:

"Mr. [redacted],

When you signed up online, you read and acknowledged that our league is made up of parent volunteers and agreed with the fact that we have a no refund policy. The online registration does not allow you to continue with payment until you have indicated that you agree with our policies.

Yes, we do issue refunds under special circumstances, for example:

if we cannot offer a sport/divison in which the parent enrolled their child

major injury which prevents the child from playing (with Dr.'s note)

Your credit will be valid until the Winter of 2015. I will update our records and remove your son from coach [redacted]'s roster.

I wish you and your child the best in the other league."

Mr. [redacted]:

"Mr. [redacted],

I will be issuing a complaint with the Revdex.com, as well as issuing a stop payment if necessary. We signed up our son with the assurance that sportsmanship and teamwork were priority #1. He was then subject to the complete opposite. Why would we subject him to this again on another team in your league.

Our exchanges in email further my opinion that the kids our not being put first."

My response:

"Mr. [redacted],

in my first email, I stated that our priority is the safety of the participants and that we also want for the kids to enjoy their experience of being in a team. The mission of all of our programs is to strengthen the individual, the family, and the community through participation in youth sports. Each program is centered around sportsmanship and emphasizes fun and the importance of fair play.

I'm sorry, but I don't see how that can be interpreted as "we're not putting kids first". I explained to you that all parties involved were given a verbal warning. This unfortunate incident was addressed minutes right after it occurred, we as a league did not put it on the back burner, we didn't brush it off as an isolated incident.

One thing in which I do agree with you is that I can't promise you that the men who demonstrated poor sportsmanship will not do it again, but should that happened a second time they will be removed from their post. I am a believer in second chances, people have bad days, we all do things which we wish we can take back. But there are no "3 strikes" with us. I really do hope that the other organization do follow through with their promise.

Our league is great because of the kids and parents who are part of this league. We've been in operation for over 20 years (over 10 years here in San Diego), I can proudly say that we've been doing a very good job overall. Sure, we have our hiccups, just like the "giants" in youth sports (ei: Little league, AYSO, Pop Warner). But the pros far outweigh the cons.

Mr. [redacted], we cannot-- will not, force you to be part of our winter season. We are not taking your money in return for nothing. We are giving other alternatives so that the fees you paid are not lost.

I thank you for your time and attention. I have cc'd our League President, [redacted], so he is aware of your situation."

"I apologize for the the name changes: I wrote [redacted]- [redacted] a couple of times.

The email it is intended for Mr. [redacted]"

---

No more email exchanges after that.

As I mentioned in my first email: I addressed the situation that occurred 1/11/14 with both coaches involved. No incident like this has occurred since. I call the coach who according to Mr. [redacted], instructed his players to "hurt" the opposing team. This coach was very upset by the accusation. "Ludicrous and insane" were his words to this accusation. My staff has been supervising the game sites and have not reported an act of violence from this team or any team participating in our flag program.

Furthermore, in my emails I never made mention of the words "too bad, that's all I can do...", I explained to Mr. [redacted] the situations in which we do issue a refunds. He registered online and acknowledged our NO REFUND policy. The league used the registration fees towards uniforms, fields, referees, insurance, and the overhead a league has to run a program.

The credit will remain valid until Week 3 of the Winter 2015 seeason (Dates to be determined at a later time).

Kinds regards,

[redacted]. [redacted]
