Nationwide Moving & Storage Reviews (4)

Review: My Wife and I moved to Massachusetts from Georgia. We received a binding estimate from Nationwide Moving and Storage for $3408 which including packing and the use of an elevator to complete the move. The mover gave us a bill for $4950 Including $470 for packing and $200 for a long carry. When we moved to Georgia in 2013 we used 1346 cubic feet of truck space. Nationwide is claiming we used 1495 cubic feet of truck space. We did not have as many items on this move as we did on the previous move. I have tried to contact the company to discuss this but no one will return my call.Desired Settlement: I would like Nationwide to honor there original binding estimate of $3408.00.

Review: Nationwide insisted on payment up front and the weekend of the move demanded an extra thousand to their original estimate of $7500. The President, Mr. [redacted] came to our house in person demanding this payment. He was rude and angry, calling us disorganized and a mess. He then called his office and repeated his angry dissertation about us. Right in front of us. Then he asked, "is your check good?" We would have thrown him out but our South Carolina move was scheduled for the next day. It took 8 days (late) to get our furniture. Two movers dumped everything in a mess, boxes everywhere, furniture disassembled, two damaged pieces. They sent me an email advising the move was about $800 less. They have not refunded my overpayment, gave no receipt, no one to repair broken furniture. They will not return repeated phone calls or emails. What terrible and unprofessional service. Our move was March 31 and as of today, April 15, no response.Desired Settlement: I want the overpayment returned and damaged furniture repaired. They should make reparation for the way they dumped our things. We paid for more than that. Mr. [redacted] is extremely rude and arrogant and deserves at least a reprimand.

Response:

Dear Ms. [redacted], I just received my check. The two people in the Bloomfield office [redacted] and [redacted] both told me I had to call the national 800 number to receive my check. A very nice girl named [redacted] told me that was not true and she called out to Bloomfield to encourage them to cut the check quickly. There's no excuse for having to beg a company for nearly two months to get a refund. I'm still grossly unhappy every time I allow myself to think of what a horrible experience I had. No apologies, just condescension. Now I'm going to send in the form for all the damaged and missing items. Let's see how that goes. Many thanks, [redacted]

Review: Contracted with Nationwide to relocate my family from Ct to Minnesota. Nationwide estimated contents of house at 9800 pounds and quoted at $6,957.08 when driver weighed in he registered 12,800 pounds which brought charges to $8,692.53. Dispatch informed me the truck would arrive in Minnesota in two days. The contents of my move arrived 9 days later. Miserable people in Ct to work with charged extra $1,000 to use shuttle truck after salesman said they wouldn't need it theninflated the insurance fees and costs because they miscalculated the estimate. truck driver and Minnesota help was good. Very poor service on the Ct end all around. Wouldn't adjust pricing for their mistakes. [redacted] Never use Nationwide and have advised everyone looking for a mover on my poor service. Their mistake cost me an extra $1,735.45 in costs plus accommodations for a family of six for a week. The didn't want to discuss retribution for poor service.

Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Other (requires explanation)

partial refund for misleading delivery date and miscalculating estimate by 3,000 pounds costing &1,735.45 more out of pocket plus tips for movers of $300

Mr. [redacted] was given a Non-Binding Estimate on 10/13/12 based on an estimated weight of XXXXX# for his move to Stillwater, Mn. The total estimated charge for this move was $7028.02 and, based on the Federal Department of Transportation regulations, if the total charges for the services provided exceed the estimate by more than 10%, then the customer may pay 110% of the estimated charges. In this case that would be $7730.82, or the customer can opt to pay the actual total charges of $8692.53 at delivery. If they choose to pay the 110% then they [redacted] be billed for the balance 30 days after delivery and are obligated to pay that balance within 7 days of the receipt of the invoice. As an agent for North American Van Lines(NAVL), Nationwide Moving & Storage is an agent and in this capacity we book business through North American under their operating authority. In this instance, Nationwide acted as the booking agent, origin agent, and labor/shuttle provider for the NAVL driver who loaded and delivered Mr. [redacted]'s household goods.

The shuttle truck, which is used when there is limited access to a residence, was on the original estimate so Mr. [redacted] was aware of that charge. Estimating the weight of a house full of furniture is not an exacting science which is why it is simply an estimate. The final charges on interstate shipments are based on the actual weight which was 12,800# in Mr. [redacted]'s move which affects the other weight based charges such as the Insurance Related Surcharge, the Fuel Surcharge, the Origin and Destination Fees, and the customer's valuation selection. All of these charges are part of the estimate and sanctioned by the Department of Transportation.

Mr. [redacted]'s shipment was handled under the Interstate Operating Authority of North American Van Lines, therefore the hauling driver is dispatched through NAVL and Nationwide has no control over the scheduling of the hauling driver. Mr. [redacted]'s Estimate/Order For Service clearly names North American Van Lines as the carrier. As an agent for NAVL, Nationwide cannot adjust the pricing or reimburse Mr. [redacted] for any inconveniences or service failures since these issues need to be taken up with NAVL's Customer Service Department.

Regarding Mr. [redacted]'s Desired Resolution, since NAVL controls the driver and his scheduling, any delivery issues would be between Mr. [redacted] and North American Van Lines. As stated earlier, the estimate is only an estimate and it is clearly stated on the estimate that "(The estimate) is not a guarantee that the actual charges [redacted] not exceed the amount of the estimate. The carrier is required by law to collect transportation and other incidental charges computed on the basis of rates shown in their lawfully published tariffs, on non-binding estimates, regardless of prior rate quotations or estimates made by the carrier or it's agents. Exact charges for loading, transporting, and unloading are based upon the weight of the goods transported, and such charges may not be determined prior to the time the goods are loaded on the van and weighed."

Although I can understand why Mr. [redacted] is disappointed in the services provided, he must address these issues with North Aerican Van Lines.

Consumer Response /* (3000, 13, 2013/04/28) */

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT ACCEPT the response from the business.)

When I picked up the phone looking for a price to move my family I called Nationwide Moving & Storage Co., Inc. the person that came to my home to estimate the delivery represented Nationwide Moving & Storage not North American Van Lines. I hold Nationwide responsible solely for the poor service in Ct.The estimator told me they most likely wouldn't need the shuttle truck when the crew arrived they didn't even make the effort to try since my $1,000 was already spent on a truck that went up the driveway 3 times. When Nationwide Moving & Storage called to tell me the delivery date they were the ones that said the shipment would arrive in 2 days not North American Van Lines. The truck my load was on had to make 4 pickups and deliveries before getting to me a week after they said the y would arrive.

Poor service, Inflated prices tell the whole story and now they are blaming North American Van Lines for the issues. So typical of the whole experience nothing was ever in their control. I will still strongly suggest that none of the people I know ever use Nationwide! As a service from the agent I would think they would pass along my dissatisfaction to the customer service dept at North American Van Lines. More poor service ......

Do not use this firm under any circumstances. We had and continue to have a HORRIBLE experience. These people moved our furniture from West Hartford to their storage facility in August 2013. No real issues. Their lead moving was awesome. The two workers with them were extremely lazy but the job got done because of the lead mover. Then in October 2013 they moved our furnishings from their storage facility in Bloomfield to Sandy Hook CT, our new home. The move was ok, took forever but it got done. There was all kinds of damage done to the furnishings which they are now completely ignoring. I first sent an email to them with the damage claims PER THEIR INSTRUCTIONS June 16, 2014. On June 17, 2014 I was told by our contact [redacted], that a man named Don R[redacted] handles all claims. Since that time it has been a nightmare. After leaving 14 messages (I have each and every call documented), I finally spoke to Don R[redacted] on July 16, 2014 and he stated that it was their busy season and he was simply to busy to get to our claim. He said he will call for an inspection of our goods. Nothing happened. I left messages again for Don R[redacted] AND the owner Bob P[redacted] on 18 occasions before reaching Don R[redacted] on September 4, 2014. He said it will take another month as he is just to busy. I have since left over 15 additional messages as they will NOT answer their phone and to date (its November 16, 2014 as I write this), we still have NO response to our damaged furnishings. These people are the absolute worst group of movers I have ever seen or heard of and based on their lying to us, simply dishonest. They say they guarantee their work but have not shown any ability or desire to follow through on their guarantee. It is absolutely worthless in my experience. Its now over 5 months since we submitted our claim PER THEIR INSTRUCTIONS and they will not even pick up the phone let alone call us back. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE based on our terrible experience. And before the send back their standard response that they researched and determined they never did business with us, I will post the contract online if they try that act.
