Tow Driver "***" (license #***) for Nationwide Roadside Assistance Corp made false claims about working for the Collision Reporting Centre (Toronto) at the scene of an accident on November 27 2017.
I was coerced and subsequently billed, despite his assurance that "the Collision Reporting Centre covers all the costs, because I work for them".
No costs, pricing, or stipulations were discussed prior or at any point during the ride, until I was exiting the vehicle and was asked to sign an invoice with a total of $250+HST (282.50).
In addition to his fraudulent claims, he also scratched out the city-referenced rate of $166+HST on the invoice, writing in his own total of $250+HST.
I was then unable to retrieve my car until paying the $282.50 at the Collision Reporting Centre, after they informed me I had been the victim of a scam by this company's representative.
They offered me his information to seek answers and lodge formal complaints.

I am responding to the letter we received.
As of November 16th, 2017 The City of Toronto By-Law changed to $250.00 from $166.00 which is why *** scratched out the rate because new bills have not come in so we are finishing off the invoices that we have.
The customer did authorize the tow to the CRC which is why he had to sign the invoice.
There is no such thing as a free tow to the Collision Reporting Center. It is covered by the CRC when *** dropped the vehicle the reporting center pays the bill. The Collision Reporting Center wants to keep the car in their possession for insurance to come and retain. IF the customer removes their vehicle from the CRC without another tow truck then the customer will pay the bill of the initial accident tow rate of $250.00 +hst as per the city of Toronto By-laws plus fees from the reporting center. IF another tow truck went to get the vehicle then that tow truck would pay the outstanding CRC bill and submit all invoices to the Insurance company.
Otherwise the customer submits the invoice for $250.00 from *** and that rate is set by the City of Toronto and Metro licensing by-law he has to charge $250.00 absolutely no one can charge more or less than this amount.
The customer was not "***med" there has just been a recent amendment to the city by-law

You have failed to address that your driver "***" claimed to work for the CRC (three separate times before and during the tow, which is ***), and that there was no mention of the $250 amount before, after, or during the ride until the "bill" was presented. In addition, no mention of the insurance side of the payment to the CRC following the drop off of the vehicle. While I now understand the the rates have gone up, I was still lied to and tricked into taking a tow from this company, which is unacceptable and still a ***.
There will be no reimbursement as the By-Law states $250.00 + tax for any city of Toronto accident tow. There is no such thing as a free tow. Again, your insurance company will be reimbursing that so I am not going to refund payment to you when this is covered by insurance.
As for the rest of your complaint I cannot speak to it as I was not present and we will not comment on an ongoing court matter. You have issued a complaint to Metro Licensing and this issue has since gone to court to be heard before a judge.
