In reference to the attached letter from the Revdex.com,We have had this 257B skid steer in our shop as the customer statesThe machine came into the shop unable to start and had to be pulled off of the trailer by other equipmentTroubleshooting began and it was found immediately that there was very low fuel pressure feeding the fuel injection pumpA new fuel transfer pump was installed which allowed us to take our troubleshooting to the next stepAt that point a compression test was completed on the engineIt was found that there was approx150psi per cylinder vsa spec of 400psi +/- 15psiThe cylinder head was removed and we found heavy carbon build up on the intake and exhaust valves, guides, and seatsThe cylinder head was replacedThe machine was then able to start and run, but was not running efficientlyFurther troubleshooting had shown heavy blowby in all cylindersThe pistons were removed from the engine and the piston rings were found seized on the pistons, thus allowing compression to pass between the cylinder walls and the pistonsThe pistons and rings were replacedThe cartridge fuel pump was also found to have a seized rackThe pump was replacedThe turbo was found to have excessive wear and play on the impeller and is being replacedThe machine is now able to start and runOnce the turbo is replaced on the engine this machine will perform as it should (engine wise)It is very unfortunate that the troubleshooting and repairs have taken the amount of time that they have, but the path was followed exactly how it should have been per the Caterpillar repair guidelines. The hydraulic issue will need to be looked at as soon as the engine performance issue is corrected. As discussed with the customer, we will make certain that the machine is delivered back to the customer in proper working order as designedWe have all parts available for inspection with the customer when he returns for his machineThe damage to these parts is very obvious and will help explain the replacement of these parts simply by inspecting them.We are actively pursuing resolution for the customer so that we can get his machine back into his possession.Respectfully,Jason H [redacted] General Service ManagerNC MachineryOffice: 907-786-7531Cell: [redacted] @ncmachinery.com “Helping our customers succeed”

fuel pressure feeding the fuel injection pump. A new fuel transfer pump was installed which allowed us to take our troubleshooting to the next step. At that point a compression test was completed on the engine. It was found that there was approx. 150psi per cylinder vs. a spec of 400psi +/- 15psi. The cylinder head was removed and we found heavy carbon build up on the intake and exhaust valves, guides, and seats. The cylinder head was replaced. The machine was then able to start and run, but was not running efficiently. Further troubleshooting had shown heavy blowby in all cylinders. The pistons were removed from the engine and the piston rings were found seized on the pistons, thus allowing compression to pass between the cylinder walls and the pistons. The pistons and rings were replaced. The cartridge fuel pump was also found to have a seized rack. The pump was replaced. The turbo was found to have excessive wear and play on the impeller and is being replaced. The machine is now able to start and run. Once the turbo is replaced on the engine this machine will perform as it should (engine wise). It is very unfortunate that the troubleshooting and repairs have taken the amount of time that they have, but the path was followed exactly how it should have been per the Caterpillar repair guidelines. The hydraulic issue will need to be looked at as soon as the engine performance issue is corrected. As discussed with the customer, we will make certain that the machine is delivered back to the customer in proper working order as designed.
