Neff Automotive Reviews (1)

Review: 1. Service discussed & quoted price on was not performed correctly or as quoted. After incorrect service tran was one quart low on fluid ($5.47)

2. There was food drippings on my car, from someone having lunch on the hood.

3. When called to pick up car, was told timing belt needed to be replaced after he claimed to visually inspect it. Stated belt would stretch & cause engine damage if I used for holiday traveling. Had local "non-licensed" mechanic check. He stated belt looked new. I also looked & concur (owe $20.00 to local).

4. Told me alternator need to be replaced, ie bearings & bad output. After I purchased new alternator, found during removal of old all that was wrong was missing mounting nut. Returned alt to store.

[redacted]'s Auto tried to call me twice - I did not answer, as I saw no benefit in discussing.Desired Settlement: Return my money & costs to correct his mistake & fraudulent claims.

Contact Email: [redacted]

First of all in 9 yrs of business of owning our own shop and 38 yrs in the Automotive field, we have never had a case filed against us. Mr [redacted] claim is not what happened. We quoted him 8.9 Qts and that was my mistake I had read the whole drain and refill (that was for a transmission removal and refill). We only charged him for 4.25 qts. It was a special transmission fluid too, so if he (mechanic) put in any other fluid other than the SP that wouldn't be good. He just had a trans service at the suggested amount for drain and refill according to our Shop Key Maintenance program. We did try to call and as he stated did not return our calls.

No one eats in the shop so the food issue is just not true.

The timing belt issue was noted because we were looking for abnormal noise which turns out the Alternator was making. He was not charged for any of this work, we were only trying to help him since he stated he was driving it a long ways, and was low on funds. When he finally came to pick it up we offered to show him the sm cracks on timing belt and he declined. We did not tell him to buy an alternator, we told him the noise was in that area, and recomended checking it before trip, again we were declined to find out what it was. We did run a output test on it and it was good. We did not charge him for that test.

If Mr [redacted] felt he didn't want to discuss this matter, how would he expect for this to be resolved. We have our complete work order to back all these accusations. We didn't TRY to sell him anything, we were just trying to let him know that he had other issues. This car has definately not been taken care of properly. At this time without a discussion of this matter we can not determine a fair price for his request, without communication it's been tough, because the only thing that anyone else did was charge him for a qt of fluid because he felt it was low.

We have a full hand written work order stating everything we just enclosed in our response.

Thank you [redacted]

Response:

I apologize for my delayed response, as I was away for the holidays.

In response to Mr. [redacted]'s response I'd like to point out a few things.

1. States my claim is incorrect - then admits he made a mistake, ie 8.9 qts

2. Once I hand him the keys, he accepts responsibility for my vehicle, ie food drippings on my hood

3. The timing belt was replaced @ 70,000 miles & still looks new. I have receipt.

4. If alternator was making noise - why didn't he notice nut missing?

5. He did tell me that the alternator was the most important thing to fix. He also stated he'd contact me with a quote.

6. He stated to me the output was bad & needed a new alternator. That is reason for my purchase of new alternator.

7. He did try to sell me services ie timing belt & alternator. I was given a quote for the timing belt.

8. I have all records for my car. My car is properly cared for.

9. I did have Les Schwab look @ tran fluid level

10. I had dealer perform tran service & vehicle checked out there: improperly care of car is false.

At this point, it is obvious Mr. [redacted] is gonna continue his lies about my experience with his performance. He did however admit he made a mistake in reading his paperwork. This is the matter at hand. This is what I paid for.

Response:

In response to your correspondence dated January 9, 2014. After 38 yrs of service and remarkable expertise in his workmanship and customer satisfaction, a one time customer (Mr [redacted]) who doesn't know anything about [redacted] could make accusations about his performance. We stand by our initial response. Rather than continue to have a war of words, we feel that $52.75 would be a fair amount to reimburse Mr [redacted]. That is half the Labor and 1 qt of ATF that he is claiming being low.
