Neighbor-Saver Market Reviews (1)

Review: 04/09/14

I went with my two girls (6-8) to meet some friends at the La Jolla Shores Park, and we were planning on having a bonfire, I promised to buy the wood for the bonfire so I stopped by “Neighbor-saver Food Market“ located at Avenida Del La Playa, La Jolla to get the wood, the second I parked in front of the store I saw a bundle of wood sitting by the door, I tried to grab it when I noticed it was put on purpose to hold the door, so I looked inside and said:” Oops I apologize but do you have more inside?” Indicating that I found out it was to hold the door, and I didn’t know that, the clerk from behind the counter said: ”Yes we do have more here inside” and finished his sentence with an insult in Arabic calling me “Stupid” I speak Arabic, and I understood what he said so I said: “That was not nice, and unnecessary” only to see a younger guy coming at me from inside screaming and shouting: “Who are you pointing your finger at” and started to get in my face and then pushed me outside and tried to close the door saying he is not open any more, I tried to explain to him that was not nice of the clerk to say so because I apologized, but the younger guy kept screaming, and he said he is going to call the police, then he started taking pictures of me with his cellphone cursing, and saying words in a language I could not understand which I think was Chaldean language, but still he wanted to close the door, this is when an older guy twice my size came down the stairs from my side, and approached me asking what is going on, I explained to him what the clerk said, and I said in Arabic that was not nice because I didn't do anything wrong, but he said: “First I don’t speak Arabic second when you pulled the wood bundle did the door push you?” I said: “Yes and that’s why I apologized and asked if ...” But before I finish explaining to him he said: “He did, so what? Just [redacted] off” and he came at me with less than a feet from my face and he said: “What are you going to do about it?” and he became more and more challenging, and more aggressive until an older gentleman came and spoke to me in Arabic apologizing, and pushed the two guys away from me..

All of that and my two little girls standing there and crying hysterically, because from what they saw of bad attitude, and aggression from the store people they thought those people are going to hurt us..

I got into my car shaking but they followed me taking pictures for me and my car, when my kids saw them they started to cry more, and asked me to leave before these “Bad People” come to hurt us…

I left then called the police in the non-emergency line to report what had happened, the lady on the other side said you can press charges, and an officer will come to take some information from you, but my girls started crying again because they thought we are going back to that place, and I didn't want to put through more, so I preferred to contact the Revdex.com…

The store people (The younger guy, the clerk, and the older guy) not only were a threat to me and my two little girls by demonstrating a very aggressive, insulting behavior, they were example of a very bad attitude for no reason whatsoever, and I need the Revdex.com’s help to stop them from doing that to somebody else…

Business

Response:

complaint # [redacted]

It is a shame that we need to respond to such untruthfulness. It is too bad that some people choose to misuse the services of such a reputable organization like the Revdex.com. The Neighborsavor Market in La Jolla Shores, CA is a family business. Open since 1969, we have maintained an optimal reputation in our community. We pride ourselves on providing a safe, clean, friendly, and welcoming environment to locals and visitors alike. Our satisfactory business reputation is one that could not have been built without our great customers and our excellent customer service. We are well known and well loved in the La Jolla community. Working by the beach, we are accustomed to dealing with all types, and that day was no exception.

The truth about that day’s unfortunate events:

This man thought he heard something that was never said. As this person stated in his complaint, we do not speak or understand Arabic. How would someone insult you in a language we don’t speak? When this man thought he heard an insult in Arabic, he immediately flew off the handle. He began shouting and cursing, pointing his fingers and waving his arms, yelling very aggressively and raising his voice to a tone that was unacceptable for any business. He was mixing English and Arabic I believe. A good customer of ours who was shopping with us at the time did not like this mans behavior and felt threatened along with us and asked him to please leave. He refused and continued to scream and yell in a hostile fashion. Other customers also joined in asking him to leave; 9 witnesses in total, and video footage.

He then sent his daughters to his car, alone, in order to continue his aggressive behavior. (His daughters’ reactions were nothing like stated in his complaint, they were giggling and laughing, it seemed as if these poor girls had experienced incidents like this before. I am appalled that this guy would try to exploit his 6 and 8-year-old daughters in order to gain sympathy. That is shameful and disgusting. Don’t you know that every liquor store has cameras? ) As he stated, when he wouldn’t leave we told him he was breaking the law and we will call the police. He continued with his rant so we walked towards him (clerk and customer) hoping that he would just walk away. Maybe his scare tactics have worked other places but we would not let him intimidate us. Never did anyone push anyone so that was another lie he told. Like he stated in his complaint we were the ones who were going to call the police, not him. This is when the business owner showed up, the man who he claims is twice his size. The owner is 6 feet tall and 210 lbs. So this guy must be 3 feet tall and 105 lbs. He approached the man very peacefully and asked him what the problem was. The guy began speaking Arabic and yelling and shouting at the business owner when the owner said “please speak English, we don’t speak Arabic.” He then told his story, all the while insulting everyone involved and behaving in a bullying manner. When the business owner offered to just drop the matter, the man felt like he was owed some kind of apology from the clerk. The clerk said he never insulted him so he felt he shouldn’t have to apologize. Another customer who actually spoke Arabic tried to diffuse the situation and calm the man down by apologizing but there was no getting through to him. He wouldn’t stop yelling and he wouldn’t leave from in front of the store. The owner then said, “ What do you want exactly? “ The man replied with more abusive remarks and every bad word you can think of. The owner then replied “OK. Get the [redacted] out of here before we call the police.” (We would like to apologize for the bad language). The guy finally decided he was done and he should go join his unattended children in the car, but not before opening the door and swearing a couple more time so his daughters could hear how tough their daddy is. If those innocent girls were really crying, it was because you embarrassed them and you embarrassed yourself. If you really called the police when you left they would say that the only one who committed a crime was you. What exactly would you press charges for? Do your homework before you make up your stories next time.
