Review: friday december 26th 2014 my truck was stolen out of my driveway. when I recieved the call from the state trooper at 1:27 am I was informed that my truck was shut off but was turned on using my key to start the truck to put it on the flat bed to be towed. and when the operator at the new haven office called the tow driver who towed it, that m truck was still running with no issue. so the following morning I went to pay for my truck to bring it back home and my truck doesnt turn on. they said my starter is broke, but before it got to the impound my starter was fine. Now that its not turning on they are telling me it is my fault when they were supposed to return my stolen veichle in one piece still working. and I paid 143 dollars to get it out as well. I always thought when ur car is stolen and is in one piece and running still its the responsibilty of the tow company if anything happened to my truck. it was working fine. somewhere between being on the flatbed and being placed into the lot my truck was damagedDesired Settlement: I just want to either have all storage fees waived or be re-embersed for the additional money spent on storage fees due to my trucks starter. A miracle would be for Nelcon to pay for the repairs

Response:

On 12-26-14 Nelcon was called to tow a [redacted] that was a stolen vehicle and the State Police had recovered, our driver loaded the vehicle on the flatbed and towed it to our garage on 12-27-14 the owner of the vehicle came down to retrieve his vehicle, he paid the towing and storage fees and was escorted to his vehicle in our lot, he attempted to start his vehicle and it would not start, one of our employees looked at the vehicle and said it seemed to be a bad starter. He stated he did not have the money to have the vehicle towed out and asked if there was anything we could do to help him, he was instructed to call the manager on Monday, as the manager was off, and was informed there would be accruing storage charges for every day the vehicle was there. On Monday he called into our dispatch and the message was relayed to me to call him. I called him and he explained the situation to me and began blaming us for his starter being bad. I explained to him, that it was an older vehicle and in no way would towing the vehicle damage his starter. He was asking us to replace his starter for him and I explained it would need to be towed to our North Haven garage because we only do towing at our Meriden location, no repairs. He stated he did not have money for repairs and wanted us to fix the vehicle for him. I explained numerous times that it was not our fault that the starter was faulty, and it wasn't even definite that was the problem that was an educated guess by our employee, but he should have a mechanic look at it. he stated he was on his way to a funeral and would call us back. He never called back and the vehicle remained in our storage yard accruing daily storage fees. On 1-5-15 , he called me back and asked if there was anything we could do to help him, I informed him once again, that it was not our fault the vehicle would not start and also explained with the vehicle being stolen, it may have been tampered with by the people who stole it. I told him as a good faith gesture I would wave the storage charges for the first week, which would cover all of his accruing charges up until Saturday 1-3-15, but that was the best I could do. he said he would not have money to get the vehicle out until Friday 1-16-15. He was aggravated with me and hung up. On Tuesday night 1-6-15 he came to our location and wanted to pick the vehicle up, one of my employees called me to see if I had made arrangements with him, I instructed them that I had waved the first week of storage, but at that point his balance would be $72 plus tax. My employee informed him and he said he only had $50.00 on him, I told him to collect the $50.00 from him and let him have his vehicle. He paid the $50.00 and had his vehicle towed out. I feel we were more than fair with him, as it was not any of our doing that his vehicle would not start, we waved approximately $200 in storage fees for him and let him have his vehicle.[redacted]Manager Nelcon Service Center

Review: On Feb. 6, 2013 I called AAA to tow my my 2009 Toyota Corrola to the Toyota dealer because it would not start. The AAA contractor Nelcon Service Center asked to bring the car to there garage for repair. I agreed. They replaced the battery and the spark plugs. On Feb. 7th we picked up the car and payed the $305.22 bill.On March 30th I opened the hood to check the fluids and found that the engine cover was missing. The vehicle was not serviced sense Feb. 7th.We called Nelcon that day and told them. We were told the owner would call us back. No return call. We called them on April 1st and they said they would look for the cover. The next day said they could not find the cover and asked me for the V.I.N. of the car. It was on the receipt. They said they would locate a used cover. I called back on April 9th and they said they were waiting for me to give them the V.I.N. The next day I gave them the number. I called them on April 22nd they said they would split the cost for a new cover. I told them I was not happy with that sense they were the last one to service the car. The cover needed to be removed to replace the spark plugs. The car hood was not openned between 2-7-13 and 3-30-13. I need an engine cover for my car. It doesn't have to be new.I did not loose the cover so I should not have to pay for a cover. I called AAA to register a complaint also. Also, I normally do the maintanence on my car but I had surgery on Jan 23rd and did not get out of the hospital until Feb. 5th. I was out of service for 4 weeks after that. I would have looked at the engine sooner if I was active.

Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Replacement

Engine cover needs to be replaced at no cost to the customer. If I ran that business I would replace it. I would also be calling the customer back instead of waiting for the customer to call again. I will agree to wait a period of time while Nelcon locates a used cover.
