I am a teacher who had a student loan with Nelnet I called to get the payoff amount and made the payoff payment within minutes of calling for the payoff The next day I was charged an additional [redacted] centsNINE PENNIES?!!! Really????? I called to find out why and was told by the representative named [redacted] and his supervisor named [redacted] that if I did not pay the [redacted] cents it would be written off on my credit report I am furious!!! Especially after I made such a large payoff payment!!! This is ridiculoust!!! I paid the amount that I was told was the pay off I have paid faithfully, often paying 2, and times the monthly amount!!! I paid the loan off years in advance and was still told I had to pay the [redacted] cents This is ridiculous! I will never take another school loan with you and will tell all students that I know not to ever use NELNET! The worst in customer service!!! This company must really be hurting for money!!!

I have been dealing with Nelnet for over years For the past years I have complained that they continually have advanced the due date I finally contacted [redacted] and seems that if I mention your name they'll correct the problem Thanks for your help with this

Nelnet just this week acquired the servicing of my student loan My loans have been on automatic payments for years and are never late My first notice that Nelnet was taking over my loans, received yesterday, did not even have my name on the notice, so at first I thought it was spam Today I received another notice, apologizing for not having my name, and encouraging me to go online to set up my account I did, and found that they already had my status as delinquent I was furious I immediately called and complained I have also written two dispute letters, and I am seriously considering filing a [redacted] for misstating the amount due They have gotten off on a VERY bad foot with me

I am finding that this company is beyond unprofessional I got enrolled into the program around the end of last year To say getting started was an ordeal is an understatement They give you all these numbers with extensions that are suppose to connect you directly with a representative who is supposedly over your case, however, when you call the extension you never get the person just a recording Then you are on hold for hours Then just to be told to leave a message This went on for months Things finally got set up and I was thinking everything was fine Then today I receive a missed call from a representative along with an text message about a missing payment I immediately call back because I just received a statement last week saying that I had no payments due I got on the phone with a representative named *** who was requested over *** dollars for a payment I begin to ask her how can I have a payment due when I just received a letter stating that I didn't have any payments She said this was from January I asked for 2017? She says no this year January I asked how is that possible and began to tell her that I just received a letter saying that I have no past due, over due, or any type of payments due She places me on hold then without telling me just transfers me to another representative, a female, who just begins requesting money I again asked what is it for She says that with all the credit card fraud that was going on the company stopped processing card payments, which was how I set my account up initially, and that the companies records were basically lost for a while and they are just catching up So I asked for paperwork regarding the matter because at this point it was coming off as a scam She tells me that she is not sending me any paperwork but can send me an invoice She then says that they have been trying to reach me everyday regarding this matter, however, I can produce my call log to prove this was a lie So I informed her that today I got this miss call with a message so I called back so why would I just call back today and not have called back any other time she said I don't know but I am not gonna go back and forth with you about it I told her I'm not trying to go back and forth I am just trying to ask for some type of paperwork so that I know that this is not a scam because this was over a year ago that I set this up and I haven't received any bills and/or statements saying that I owed anything or that the payments wasn't received She then says will I will just retract your process I said I am not asking for a retraction I am just asking for paperwork She refused then begin to say you are just trying to get over by not paying I said to her that all I am asking is for proof for what you are saying because as I am talking to her I researched my email account to see if I had received anything about this and nothing came up So after I hung up on her because she was very disrespectful and inappropriate on the phone I contacted via email the rep who was over my case As of yet I have not received any response back from him I say this to say that these people are rude, unprofessional, unhelpful, and come across as if they are just scamming people for what little money may have I regret ever doing this

Nelnet has very poorly developed methods for handling their loan repayment plansWhen I went to refile for Income Based Repayment this year, my payment suddenly shot up to way more than I was able to afford and about double the rate it should have been (though my income did not)
I spent several hours on the phone with them and ultimately was advised to switch to the RePay As You Earn plan, but my account would need to be placed in deferment for a month, generating interestNearly two months later my account has been generating interest and my payment was more than tripled, when I was told it would be cut in halfSo, I had to call and spend another hour on the phone with them to get them to reprocess the paperwork they had been letting sit for nearly two months and was reassured that *this time* it would work
I have gone through this same thing with them in previous years where they don't seem to process any requests until it's already too lateNelnet is a terrible loan management company and makes it very difficult for low-income students to effectively take out loans to get an education, start a career, and still be able to afford the basic necessities each monthI pay all of my other bills on time, but to date, I have not had a single month go by where I was able to pay Nelnet the amount they have promised me or where my account has not been incorrectly listed under a different plan

I was not notified that a payment was kicked back until it was late even though I attemoted payment more than two weeks prior to my due dateWhen I tried to resend the payment I was told it went through by two different customer service reps via phone and chatI asked them both twiceThe payment was kicked back againWhen I spoke with a supervisor she stated my issue was my fault and that they dont have to communicate to me about their hold policies for payments which is the issue that caused the kick back in the first placeI had never had a return or overdraft fee in my life! Because of their lack of communication I was charge ** dollars extra twice in one month

Nelnet serviced my federal student loans for many yearsI opted to consolidate with an outside company to reduce my interest rateI phoned the call in center to receive a day payoff amount and promptly paid the quoted amountI was surprised to found that I still had a balance of over *** dollars after the payment was processedWhen I phoned back I was met with a general lack of accountabilityI eventually learned that the call center had misquoted my payback amountNelnet was unable to offer any concession- even an interest free month or two- despite this being a clear mistake on their end
So my advice: the call center may provide you incorrect informationKnow that if Nelnet wrongs you they will make no effort to make things right

I am a teacher who had a student loan with Nelnet. I called to get the payoff amount and made the payoff payment within 10 minutes of calling for the payoff. The next day I was charged an additional .** cents. NINE PENNIES?!!! Really????? I've been teaching for 12 years at a title 1 school in Texas and had tried to get my loan forgiven. After 2 applications, and a year of going back and forth it took me calling the dept of education umbudsman to get them to stop lying to me about there reasons for denying me. They were trying to convince me I was going to have teach another 5 years from the time I got the loan and despite fact that I told them I had taught so many years they never bothered to say I only needed to redo the paperwork as it was incorrect. Needless to say believe no one and call [redacted] if they are giving you the run around. Shame on you Nelnet for making a teacher have to jump hoops!

Could not afford my monthly payments for student loan, over 50% of my salary but was told I had to make 3 on-time payments at original amount, almost $[redacted] per payment for them to consider a payment plan. Called and talked to many customer service representatives who advised they would not take partial payments and to wait until I had the full amount for a monthly payment and send that in, that there would be no penalty for doing this. I did as they instructed and then found out they reported several late payments to the credit bureaus which made my credit score nosedive. I filed a complaint with the credit bureaus and they would not change it. I talked to Nelnet and they advised it "was a government requirement and could not change report of a late payment" even though I was told there would be no penalty and I was doing as they instructed....and this is who the government mandates student loan holders must work with?

I have been dealing with Nelnet for over 3 years. For the past 2 years I have complained that they continually have advanced the due date. I finally contacted [redacted] and seems that if I mention your name they'll correct the problem. Thanks for your help with this.

Nelnet intentionally does things in a archaic manner to generate excuses to charge fees. If you submit a payment online it takes at least a day to go through. If you sign up for auto pay it makes the draft the last day and if anything goes wrong your late and charged a fee. You cannot set it up to pay with a credit or debit card. If you cancel auto pay and pay manually they still try to process the next due auto pay. They need to at least join the 20th century.

Nelnet just this week acquired the servicing of my student loan. My loans have been on automatic payments for years and are never late. My first notice that Nelnet was taking over my loans, received yesterday, did not even have my name on the notice, so at first I thought it was spam. Today I received another notice, apologizing for not having my name, and encouraging me to go online to set up my account. I did, and found that they already had my status as delinquent. I was furious. I immediately called and complained. I have also written two dispute letters, and I am seriously considering filing a [redacted] for misstating the amount due. They have gotten off on a VERY bad foot with me.

I had a problem with my tuition payment plan and I was directed by my school to contact Nelnet directly. This was 4 days, 40+ minutes of listening to hold music, and 2 [redacted] posts ago. The only response I had received was through [redacted] asking to send a private message with my information, which I hope is not a scam, and even after sending my agreement number and birthday as requested I again am left with no further communication. This is incredibly frustrating as if I can\'t get my payments squared away I can be dropped from my classes and not allowed to graduate this spring. All I want is for someone to get back to me and help me figure this all out.

I applied for income based repayment. I had been continually checking my NelNet account since they send messages through there. I had messages that contained a letter that started "This Message Contains Important Information about your Income-Based Repayment Plan." I call into NelNet and was told I never responded to my application being incomplete. They stated they sent an email. I never got the message about the application being incomplete because they sent it through email that went to my spam folder. You would think they would send the message through their system since the send everything else through the system and you just get emails saying "log in to your account to view the message sent". It is like they don't want you to actually qualify for anything to make your student loan payment affordable. I had to get a forbearance and had to agree to have even more interest capitalized on my loan.
