Nelson Kia Subaru, Inc. Reviews (2)

Review: On July 8, 2013, I purchased a used 2003 Subaru Legacy Sedan from Nelson Kia Subaru. The car had 140,000 miles and I purchased it with no warranty. I understood (and expected) that you are going to have problems with a used vehicle. But within weeks I noticed that the car was smoking from underneath the hood and leaking antifreeze. I had the Nelson dealership look at it and they informed me that I the head gaskets needed to be replaced it would cost $1,800 to repair it, I only paid $4,500 for the car itself. I have not even made the first payment on this car. I was told that they inspected and tuned up the car before they sold it to me. Unless they lied to me about inspecting it, I find it hard to believe that they could not have noticed it.Desired Settlement: I'd like to have my car repaired for no charge or for a much more manageable cost. I'm not looking for a handout, I just want the car that I had to bury myself in debt to get to actually work. If nothing else, I would like to return the car, get my money back, and take my business elsewhere.

Response:

I have investigated the complaint filed by [redacted] and the situation is very straight forward. The customer advised the Revdex.com prior to asking for assistance from our company. When [redacted] did ask for assistance, the sales manager, [redacted] offered to pay for 50%of the repair and [redacted] declined the offer. Mr. [redacted] then agreed to pay the entire amount as a goodwill gesture. As the customer noted in his correspondence to you, no warranties were expressed or implied as any part of the vehicle purchase. The vehicle has been repaired and has been returned to the owner. Please see attached invoice. Nelson Automotive Group has been serving our area for more than 37 years with compassion and integrity. We are saddened whenever there is a concern with one of our customers, and will always work hard to make sure there is a positive outcome. Sincerely yours, [redacted] Director of Operations Nelson Automotive Group

Review: Nelson Kia Subaru is trying to avoid honoring a price they quoted for repairs. The repair work needed should have been performed prior to the sale, and was not disclosed to the buy until several weeks after the sale. On December 28, 2013, I purchased a used 2008 Subaru Legacy Outback from Nelson Kia Subaru. The car had 130,000 miles, and I purchased it with no warranty. Prior to purchasing the car I had asked a sales reprehensive ([redacted]) to check with the service manager ([redacted]) to see if any major servicing was due, or any major repairs needed to be performed. I was informed that the timing belt should have been changed at 105,000 miles. I asked if this work could be done before I purchased the car, which the dealership kindly agreed to. In addition, I asked if any other maintenance work was needed, and I was reassured there wasnt any. During this time I explained that I wanted to keep the car for a few years and then trade it in for a newer model, and that I intended to have all of the servicing done at the dealership so they would have access to service record when I would eventually trade-up.In January, before I had even made my first payment, I took the car for in for its scheduled oil change, and advised the service manage that a burning smell was coming from the engine. Later that day I was informed that the head gaskets were leaking oil and coolant, and that they needed to be replaced. [redacted], the service manager at the time, advised me that the cost would be almost $2,000, but I could get done at a discount because they are usually replaced the same time as the timing belt. However, the cost was still going to be over $1,000. I was not too happy about the situation as I had stress when purchasing the car that I wanted to be made aware of any expensive maintenance issues. The following day I spoke with [redacted], the franchise manager, and expressed that I was not happy about the situation. [redacted] advised me he knew of the leaking gaskets, but that he could not have covered the cost for repairs, as well the replacing the timing belt. I advised him that if he had informed that I wouldnt have objected to adding the cost to the total of the car so it could be spread out with the car payments. He asked [redacted], the service manager, to join us in his office, and offered me the price of $731. I was still not happy with having to pay for a repair that should have been completed before I purchased the car, but I accepted his offer after [redacted] advised that the leaking gaskets were nothing to be alarmed over, and that didnt need replacing immediately. I was also reassured by [redacted] that the price of $731 would be honored in the future. On December 4, I dropped my Subaru off for an oil change. Later that day I received a call from a service representative, [redacted], who advised me that my head gaskets needed replacing. I advised [redacted] to check in the dash as I had the kept the quote of $731 that I was given by [redacted]. I also asked if my car was safe to drive as I needed to get home (I live 25 miles away from the dealership). I was told that on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the worst, that my car was a 9. I then asked if it was possible to get a courtesy car. I then was told that a courtesy car was not available. The following morning, I received a call back from [redacted] who advised that the repairs would be over $2,000. I advised him that that was completely unacceptable, and that I wanted the price I was originally promised. He said he would check with the service manager. Later that day I received a call from [redacted], the new service manager. I explained the whole situation to her and asked her to check with [redacted] then called me back on December 11 saying that she could not honor the price. I told her that was unacceptable and she said she would speak to [redacted] the following day. On the afternoon on December 12, I drove over to the dealership in a borrowed car (still no offer of a courtesy car), to speak with [redacted]. When I asked him what was being done to fix my car he initially seemed unaware of the situation, and then advised me that [redacted] had spoken to him asking if he would cover the cost of the repairs, which he wouldnt. I then proceeded to remind him of the discussion that we had back in January, and that he gave me his word he would honor the price. At this point, I though all would be taken care.On Monday, December 15, I called [redacted] to check to make sure the work was being done. She advised me that that the work hadnt been started, and to be done properly would cost more than the $731 I had been quoted. I advised [redacted] that I would not pay anymore that the price I was promised, and that I expected the repair work to be done, including the pressure testing for leaks, that I was told was needed to ensure no future problems. On the evening of Wednesday, December 17th, I received an abusive voice mail from [redacted] accusing me of expecting to have the work done for no charge. I returned his call, but got no answer so I left a message stating that I expected the work to be done for the price agreed. At this point I have lost total faith in Nelson Kia Subaru, and I am asking for your intervention to get this matter resolved.Desired Settlement: I'd like to have my car repaired for the agreed price of $731, and have the work covered by a warranty to ensure that I do not have any further problems of this type in the future. In addition I would like a written apology from the dealership for the way Ive been treated, and for the inconvenience I have suffered as a result of their actions.
