We were unbelievably pleased with all aspects of Nelson Pool Company. From our initial consultation, to our final walk-through, Nelson and his crew exceeded our expectations. His crew was incredibly respectful and Nelson helped us through the entire process. As a lifelong resident of Sarasota, I highly recommend Nelson Pool Company for all of your pool related needs.

Mr., I am so glad that you have enjoyed the process of the pool and equipment renovation.
It was a pleasure working with you.

We moved to Sarasota July 2015. Since then we have used Nelson Pool Company on three separate occasions: First time was late 2015 when we had a pool leak. Nelson responded immediately and corrected the problem. Second time was was mid 2016 when we had the entire pool and deck redone. Pavers installed and complete renovation of the pool with tile and pebble teck. Beautiful job and the pool looked great. The third time was just this March 2020 when we needed a new skimmer installed. Again, Nelson responded immediately and in one day installed the new skimmer. In fact, our pool cleaning company asked me if the skimmer had even been replaced because the workmanship was so good it didn't appear any work had been done. My wife and I wholeheartedly recommend Nelson Pools for any pool work you may need. He and his workers are excellent, ethical and responsible.

Thank you for your review!
It has been a pleasure working for you.

Nelson pool company recently refurbished our pool. We found Nelson to be very professional from start to finish. As was the case with past reviews the quote was clear and accurate and the service was prompt. Our pool was re-plastered and the waterline tiled was replaced. On day one the pool was drained, then coated/sealed and then re-tiled and grouted. On day two the new plaster was applied and by noon the refilling of the pool was started.
We have already recommended Nelson to a neighbor looking for the same type of refurbish.

Nelson pool company recently installed a pool heater at my home. Two men came and efficiently removed the old one, hauled it away and installed the new one. The gas man hooked it up the same day and we were back in operation. I would highly recommend Nelson. He also found a leak in my pool when no one else could.

Was over charged for a repair, a lien was placed on the home and not removed once check had been cashed.
On a recommendation, I contacted Nelson Pool Company to repair a leak in a return line of my pool. He responded promptly and was at the property to complete the repair August 24th, 2017. No one was present when he arrived and as agreed, the concrete deck and soil had been removed with ample room for working. I returned home that day to find the part that was cut out (removed) due to it being cracked, on the table near the repair hole. The dirt had been placed back in the hole, the pool was running and all appeared to be fine. The following day, August 25th, 2017, I received an email including the invoice, #*** for the repair. I was immediately surprised by the total cost of $375 which equated to $65 for parts available from any home improvement store for approximately $15-20 at most. Plus the original $120 charge for the trip and the first 45 minutes of time spent on the repair. There were two additional hours tacked on to the repair time at a cost of $90 per hour. As a professional pool repair service, this is a simple repair in which the homeowner did the hard part to remove the concrete and expose the leak and should have resulted in a two hour and forty five minute repair. A standard work day for the average person is eight hours and this repair took one third of it?
In our discussions about the invoice, I advised them I was not satisfied and would pay the amount, despite my dissatisfaction. During that time, I was told threatened with a lien on the home if I did not pay. I advised again that I would pay and mailed them a check, which was promptly cashed. I was offered a visit to the property to explain why I had been charged so much, but in reality it was just a way to get in front of me to demand and receive payment. The "window dressing" of an explanation was just a ploy. I am a homeowner capable of performing the repair and have the knowledge of what and how to fix it. I wanted a business to be responsible for the repair in case something was to go wrong later. They were hired for no other reason. We received the letter from the county stating the lien had been applied, yet the checked has been cashed and the lien is still present. The company clearly had time to go down to the county building to apply the lien when money was involved but as always, they got paid, the full amount and have yet to remove the lien.

Desired Outcome

I am looking for immediate removal of the lien on the property by the contractor. I am not interested in talking with him. I would be satisfied with a partial refund but others should know to be aware of this contractor.

Nelson Pool Company Response

Hi Mr., I am so sorry for the bad experience that you have had with my service. I want to take the opportunity to explain the misunderstandings.
On 80/24/2015 when you contacted me over the phone, I explained to you the cost for my services, and we agreed that I will be at your house the following day to do the repair. I did called you 30 minutes before I arrived at your house to let you know that I will be arriving at your house to do the repair, but, I couldn't get an answer from you. I decided to proceed with the repair even when you were not at home. I felt that the most important part was the repair, and I did not care about collecting the money right after I finish the repair, as I normally do. My job was to repair the leak, and I did it.
Now, why did it take so long? I do understand that you did a part that I very hard, like removing the concrete and expose the pipe. I do agree 100% with you.
Here is what I found when I looked at the area to be repaired; in order for me to do the repair in a professional manner, and give you my standard 5 years warranty, yes, 5 years warranty on labor and parts, I had to dig the hole another 24" down from where you left it.I had to do it to get to the main pipe that feeds the return fitting on the wall. The plumbing for that section had to many fitting already, and I wanted to do the repair as if it was my own pool, and that is how I do every repair, for every customer, every time. I would no do anything than the best all the times.
When I exposed the pvc pipe that is behind the wall return fitting, there was another coupling, and I needed to remove that coupling as well. To remove it, I had to get an electric hammer and get into the pool concrete shell. At that time, I was able to cut the pipe on all 3 sides of the T and start the proper repair. When I have to remove concrete around a pvc pipe, I have to make sure that I am no causing any problem to the pipe that is in the working area, I have to do it carefully, one inch at the time, and that takes a little more time and just breaking concrete.
When I finished the repair, I had to set up my equipment to pressure test the entire system, and make sure that my repair is holding pressure. That is a standard service that I do to my customers, every time after a underground leak repair is done. I do that to make sure that they will have a repair that is done right the first time and the entire system is ready to go back to normal.
I removed my pressure test equipment, removed my tools and decided to put the earth back in the repair's are to fill the hole and prevent an accident and also reduce liabilities. I didn't want a person to fell in the hole and end up in the hospital.
I was looking to meet you at your house to explain what I have explained now, I even offered you to let me dig up the hole and show you what I did, and I wanted to do that because I wanted you to understand what was involved on the process of what seems to be a simple 20 minutes job.
About the Lien, I am very sorry about the misunderstanding again. The letter that you received, was not a Lien, it was a Notice to Owner. And it was not sent by the County, it was sent by me. That letter is just to inform you that we have the right to put a Mechanical Lien if we do not collect the money for the service provided.
That is a standard procedure in the construction industry when the contractor doesn't collect the money for the service, few companies do it after 15 days of the invoice date, I do it after 30 days if I do not collect the money. But, again, I did not put a Lien at the property.

Nelson Pool Company is top notch. Professional from beginning to end. Quote was clear and accurate.
Service was prompt and clean. Nelson answered all question quickly and thoroughly.
Highly recommend this company. A five star!
