Mr *** purchased a vehicle from us in September of 2015. If Mr *** requested a Carfax or Autocheck from us we would have provided it to him. We provide that service free of charge for all customer and for any vehicle on our lot through our website. Mr
*** could have run an Autocheck on his own free of charge at anytime during the buying process. There are many vehicles on the road today that have been in accidents so it is not unusual that a vehicle that would be offered our lot or any other lot that would have been involved in an accident. One thing we are fairly certain of is that this vehicle did not sustain sufficient damage to warrant a salvage branding. One other well known challenge is whenever a consumer purchases a vehicle from any dealer in any city or state and doesn't put any or very little money down, it is very difficult to impossible to trade them out of it in a short period of time. The fact that they owe much more than the vehicle is worth on a wholesale basis in not surprising and would require a substantial down payment no matter where he purchased from or where he tries to trade it in. I believe we offered him considerably more for his vehicle than any of the other dealers that he shopped before coming in to try to trade with us. We wanted to be as generous as we possibly could to retain their satisfaction. To completely resolve them of their debt was just not an option. I am rejecting this response because: During the test drive my wife asked the salesman if the vehicle had ever been in an accident and he replied that it hadn't been and my wife asked the manager the same question and got the same answer The car fax or vehicle check wasn't available on their website to check We've had several friends go to this dealership and found that these issues aren't just a one time issue They found the same thing, hidden damages to the vehicle they were thinking of buying

flashing plus making a loud engine knock.  Performed diagnostics showing missfire codes on cylinders 2 and 4, we performed compression check on the two cylinders and found both cylinders very low in compression.  Removed valve cover and found failed lifters on cylinders 2 and 4 which damaged the camshaft beyond repair which is when we advised engine replacement and gave the estimate.     The engine installed, part number [redacted] is states via GM Parts Workbench and Engineering notes(attached copy), that we, “must use valve covers from OEM engine,” which is what our technician did.  It appears that the customer chose to have a revised cover installed on 7/11/17 at a different repair facility to rectify a possible oil consumption issue which is described in attached bulletin #10-06-01-008m.  This bulletin has a revised valve cover that was not previously installed on the vehicle and therefore per GM Parts and Engineering directive we did not install at the time of engine replacement.  The replacement engine does have a 3 year 100,000 mile warranty on all internal mechanical components but this does not cover redesigns or upgrades. Sincerely, Wade [redacted]Service Manager Nereson ChevroletDetroit Lakes, MN###-###-####
