A group of friends and I purchased 5 tickets ($32.74/person) to attend an event at NEST on the night of Saturday August 4th, 2018. The event, "FOR THE CULTURE *** Saturday" brought to NEST by *** Events, advertised and sold advanced tickets to an event that would run from Saturday, 4 August 2018 at 11:00 PM - Sunday, 5 August 2018 at 4:00 AM (EDT) Toronto, ON.
We arrived at NEST nightclub at approximately 12:30am, and subsequently waited in line for an hour and twenty minutes. After getting past the first bouncer at the entrance, we were excited to finally be able to enter the venue! However, after walking in the main door, we were greeted with a frightening safety issue. A flight of stairs, which I can only assume lead to the check in area of the venue, was filled up way over capacity. The extremely dangerous nature of the conditions was painfully clear. Both sides of the narrow staircase were lined with multiple people on each step of the stairs and this surprising secondary 'line' had no oversight by those running the event. This narrow staircase was the single point of exit, a clear fire hazard in the event that the venue needed to be evacuated. People were constantly shoving us from both sides as a direct consequence of the lack of line management; people were cutting in line and pushing past us to get to the top, while at the same time other disgruntled attendees who had already made it to the dance floor were exiting the staircase in the opposite direction - this essentially created four lanes of traffic in an area where there was only room for two.
Through all the pushing there were many moments where we felt like the entire line was going to fall over and cause potentially severe injury. When my group finally made it to the top of the staircase (forty minutes later) we were greeted with even more chaos. At the top of the stairs all we could see was the bend of the hallway cluttered with too many people to feel comfortable or safe in any way. We could no longer take the clear dysfunction and chaos and decided to call it a night and head home before ever entering the venue.

Desired Outcome

I would appreciate a full refund for not even being able to step into the event. As well, I would like the business to contact me directly to explain why they so blatantly wasted the time and money of hundreds of people. Whether this is the fault of the venue or the event coordinators, someone needs to take accountability for this poorly organized event. Thank you very much for your assistance

We arrived at the location of the nightclub at 12:30am, and subsequently waited in line for an hour and twenty minutes. After getting past the bouncer at the entrance, expecting to finally to in to the event, we were then greeted with a frightening safety issue. A flight of stairs, which I can only assume lead to the check in area of the venue/club, was filled up dangerously with glaringly too many people. The extreme dangerous nature of the conditioned was painfully clear. Both sides of the narrow staircase were lined and excessively packed with people in a surprising secondary 'line', with no oversight and managing of traffic flow occurring. This narrow staircase was the single point of exit, a clear fire hazard in case or in need of evacuation. People constantly shoving you from both sides as direct consequence of the lack of line management; people bypassing line etiquette and pushing past you while at the same time other disgruntled event attendees and line participants were heading in the opposing direction leaving the event.

After a forty-minute trudge through the pushing and the moments of feeling like the entire line could fall over at any moment severe injury in a snowball effect, my group made it to the top of the staircase to be further greeted with clear chaos and no traffic management and event coordination. When at the top of the stairs all that could be seen was the bend of the hallway cluttered with too many people to feel comfortable or safe in any way. We could no longer take the clear dysfunction and chaos and decided to call it a night and head home.

Desired Outcome

Refund I would more than appreciate, receiving an appropriate refund for not even being able to get the point when I could step into the event location. As well as being contacted by the business, explaining why they so open and clearly wasted the time and money of hundreds of people. Whether this is the fault of the location itself or the event itself, someone needs to take accountability of the poorly planned mayhem. Thank you for your assistance.
