My mother called 1-888-NETGEAR for assistance with her router. The Netgear person coerced my mother into a $199 two year contract for services to support her router. My mother felt forced to pay the money and forced to give her credit card on the phone. She was given a second netgear number for "speedy service" -- 1-855-432-7432. I called the number to attempt to see if it was a scam, I was on hold for 25 minutes before someone named "Bijay" answered and he repeatedly requested information and refused to pass me to his supervisor. After Bijay disconnected, my mother's internet suddenly stopped operating again.
I have since tried 1-888-NETGEAR and spoke twice to "Ken" who attempted he said to send me to customer care. I asked for the customer cr in case we were disconnected. He said I could ask customer care for their number. We were in fact disconnected after a few minutes of hold. "Ken" called me back -- thereby indicating to me that he had my phone number -- and said he would try again. We were disconnected again.
I think this is either a scam or an outrageous price charged by Netgear for very bad service. It seems like scam is more likely. After the first call (to 1-855-432-7432, Netgear person answering named "Bijay") was terminated by Netgear, my mother's internet was disconnected.
