The aforementioned patient was schedule for several radiological studies in our officeWe make sure to call and check eligibility on each and every person that comes into our officeWe also check what the patient will owe out of pocket at the time of visitWhen we called patients insurance
carrier we were advised that he has $co-pay at the time of visit, which was the information quoted to the patient and collected at the time of visitUpon receipt of payment from the insurer a $co-payment was applied to our claim as patient’s responsibilityIt seems that the patient is under a special contract with his insurance carrier stating that he will have zero out of pocket only with a certain facility, which was not usAs soon as we became aware of the $co-pay we called the patient and advised him, giving him a choice to come to us for services or go someplace elseIt is not the doctor’s responsibility to know patients be nefitsWe provide this service out of courtesy to our patientsIt is ALWAY the patient’s responsibility to know their policy/benefitsMy co-workers as well as I have been more than courteous to the patient and his wife in trying to explain this situationWe in no way tried to mislead or trick him, as he is implying
