Nevada Speedometer Reviews (1)

on January 30th I walked into Nevada speedometer with a speedometer, fuel gage, and odometer problems. I had talked to [redacted] the main guy in the store and I explained precisely the nature of my problem and what I have done so far to try and fix it.(changed the speed sensor myself) his words to me were, well since you have replaced the speed sensor and the speedometer is still not working properly I feel as if the problem is in the cluster (the part with all the gages) which he is an expert at. since he operates a store called Nevada speedometer and since he told me that the problem is in the cluster and that he can fix it I believed him and was certain that he can fix the problem and I will be able to get my car to registered. I was in desperate need of getting my car registered and the problem fixed so I had no time to research the problem myself. also [redacted] sounded very convincing to me that he can fix the issues. he estimated that fixing the problem would run me about $350 which sounded like allot of money for a problem of that nature. because I was eager to get my car registered I agreed to pay that sum of cash in return of his honest word that he will help me and fix my cluster and my speedometer, odometer, and fuel gage. he also said that I could save an hour of labor if I take the part out myself and bring it into the store, so that is what I did. on Friday the 30th I gave him the part for a full week of repairing. so I was not able to drive my car for a full week. my complaint to Nevada speedometer and [redacted] starts here, a week later on Friday march the 6th [redacted] called me and said that the part is ready. I went to pick it up and had paid $335.83 in cash and I had asked [redacted] if the part is working and the problems were solved and he responded by saying yes everything is be fixed. I got back home with the "fixed part" and reinstalled it in my car and I must say that nothing had changed at all the same problems still existed and it seems like nothing was done in the first place. I felt robbed!Product_Or_Service: [redacted] clusterOrder_Number: noneAccount_Number: noneDesired SettlementI feel as if I paid the amount of 335.83 for no return he claims that he fixed the problems yet the problems still exist. [redacted] seemed like an honest and straight up guy and I trusted him when he said he will solve my problem, but when I called the store after reinstalling the part and explaining that all the issues were still there [redacted]'s response was well you've got a problem somewhere else then after telling me a week ago that the problem was in the cluster! I would like a refund, please!Business Response As mentioned in the complaint, this customer came into our shop while experiencing issues with the speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge in his vehicle. The customer and I had a brief conversation in which he described the vehicle's issues and his attempt in correcting the issues. The customer stated that the speedometer and odometer would only work at higher speeds and the fuel gauge would fluctuate on its own before returning to the proper level, his attempt to solve the issue was to change the vehicle speed sensor. This vehicle's gauges are part of an electronic instrument cluster; essentially they are all part of one unit. Anytime we have a customer that is experiencing problems with an electronic speedometer, our first suggestion is to have the vehicle speed sensor checked or replaced. In this case, the customer informed us that he had changed the speed sensor himself. Knowing this, I suggested that it sounded as if there were in issue within his instrument cluster. I then explained the process of having an instrument cluster repaired, it would be a week and roughly $330.00 if the cluster needed repair. On this particular cluster, we send it out for repair. The first step is a bench check to verify whether the cluster is working properly. With this customer's cluster, the microcontroller was found to have delaminated from the circuit board. The microcontroller is basically a computer chip that controls the gauges in the cluster, and is essential for the proper function of the instrument cluster. This problem was fixed and the cluster was returned. After picking up and installing his repaired instrument cluster, the customer called us to inform us that the fuel gauge was now working but the speedometer and odometer were experiencing the same issues. At this point, we reminded the customer that the work done on the instrument cluster was covered under warranty (12 months/12,000 miles) and that any potential problems would be taken care of, free of charge. We also suggested that in the meantime, the customer check for any blown fuses in the fuse panel and to look at the wires leading from the vehicle speed sensor for any cracks or loose connections. My next interaction with the customer came the following week, when he called to inform me that if I did not return half of the money we charged for the repair, he was going to open a case with the Revdex.com. I again reminded the customer that the repair work on the instrument cluster was covered under warranty, and if any issues were found they would be fixed free of charge. The customer declined to bring the instrument cluster in to be inspected. That being the case, the cluster repair is still covered under warranty and this offer still stands. It is unfortunate that the customer feels "robbed", however, we did everything within our power to help him remedy his problems. We never had the vehicle in our possession, so we can only verify what was wrong and repaired in the instrument cluster itself. Again, the microcontroller had delaminated from the board and this was corrected. Not having the vehicle in our possession, we had no way of knowing any other potential problems it may have. This being the case, we would not have and did not suggest or promise that having the instrument cluster repaired would be a cure all.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I am sorry to say that I still feel as if I was robbed by Nevada speedometer. As [redacted] said in his response I was having issues with my Gage's (speedometer, fuel gage, and odometer) when I sent the part to be repaired. Like [redacted] said I have replaced the speed sensor prior to my visit at Nevada speedometer and [redacted] did work on my cluster saing he might be able to fix the problem. I did pay him the amount of $335.83 but when I got the part back nothing was working properly and nothing was fixed. I had still remained dealing with the same problems. (None operating speedometer, guel gage and odometer) therefor I still feel as if I paid a sum of 335.83 dollars for no return what so ever. If maybe at least one of the problems was fixed I wouldn't be feeling so bad about even walking into Nevada speedometer in the first place. But like I said I sent the part in with 3 different problems paid the amount he was asking and revived the part back in the same condition it was before I sent it for "repair". Later I found out that the problem never was in the cluster like [redacted] said when I came in, all it was is a blown fuze. [redacted] never asked to inspect any other parts of the vehicle claiming he is not a mechanic which I understand but why tell me that he would fix a problem that never existed in the cluster then charge me the punt he did. I am very disappointed that this is what it comes to and I never wanted to file a complaint but maybe if [redacted] would suggest to get the vehicle inspected by a mechanic which would identify the real problem instead of telling me that the problem was in the cluster and that he can repair it when he did not we wouldn't be running back and forth having to file complaints and what not. I just feel robbed of my hard earned money!Final Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)You are being sarcastic I hope. Because I clearly remember you saying and I state "some cars will operate without the cluster being conected and yours might too" so if I blew the fuze while operating the vehicle without a cluster it is because you told me that the car can be operated without the cluster. Anyways now I know which place in Reno not to ever visit again. I learn from my mistakes, mine was clearly coming in to Nevada speedometer, and I will make sure that others are aware of it as well. Good day!Final Business Response I have never suggested or recommended to any customer that they drive their vehicle without the instrument cluster. We recommend to every single customer that they do not drive their vehicle without the instrument cluster. However, this is not the issue at hand. The blown fuse in the vehicle that the customer claims to have found and changed, was in no way related to the repair done to the instrument cluster. As I stated a number of times, the microcontroller had delaminated from the circuit board. This is an essential component to have a properly functioning instrument cluster. If this had not been repaired the cluster would not be able to work properly, regardless of any fuses. We will continue to stand behind the work done and will honor the 12 month/12,000 mile warranty. If the customer experiences any instrument cluster issues within this time frame, we welcome him to bring it back in for inspection and any necessary repair. We will not be responding to any further baseless demands for a refund.
