New Berlin Building Systems, Inc.

I recently had a bathroom remodel by New Berlin Building Systems. I chose this company based on a recommendation from an acquaintance who has worked with this contracter. I came to highly regret this choice. The owner of the the firm assured my wife and I that all decisions would be ours, then proceeded to force his preferences on us and visibly showed his displeasure when my choices did not match his. The stated purpose of the remodel was to add a standard bathtub so that I, suffering from two bad disks, could take a hot bath in the bathroom adjacent to the master bedroom. I stated a preference for a one-piece fiberglass tub/shower unit but the contractor only showed us a five piece unit which I discovered, after installation, was 2 inches shorter and 2 inches narrower than a standard tub. The remodel job was supposed to take several days but ended up taking over 3 weeks. Among other irritations, the painters left with one wall unpainted, the carpenters installed the vanity with less than 1/8th inch clearance for the drawers to clear the door jam to the room and the vanity needed to be re-installed at a later day, a new exhaust fan with heating element was requested but a simple fan without the heater was installed and works no better than the old one ( I was told after the fact that the vent was poorly done, and no attempt was made to fix this.), the door to the room would not close and had to be re-hung, and shelves in the new closet were left with unfinished front ends.
Another disappointment was the manner in which the remodel was billed. I was given a single number for the entire job and told each component would be "on a budget". I was never told how much was spent on each component and therefore do not know whether I could have chosen better materials. When the job was finished I was not told whether the job was under budget, was given no apology for all the errors/mistakes, offered no money back as a demonstration of regard for my displeasure and inconvenience, and offered no way to provide feedback.. The company website offers several raving reviews-perhaps opportunities to review are reserved for those who are happy with the work.
