Initial Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2016/04/11) */
Ms. [redacted] brought in 2 furs to be cleaned and glazed in August 2015. We send out to a furrier all of our furs for cleaning and glazing. We do not do this ourselves. We have stored furs since 1932 and our company goes back to 1910. We have...

stored, cleaned and glazed many, many furs over the years. I have owned New City Cleaners since 1986 and have handled hundreds if not thousands of furs in this time frame. Ms. [redacted] wanted her furs around the Thanksgiving holiday. When she had to wait one additional day to pick them up she was quite agitated per our office manager who talked to her on the phone. When she came to pick them up the next day she was agitated again. When she left our call office she threw her furs into the trunk of her car per my office manager who again dealt with her. After a few weeks she contacted us that her furs were ruined. She was at an airport and someone noticed her furs didn't look right according to her. When she brought them back to our store on 24th St I looked at her furs and listened to her concerns. The one fur had 4 areas where the seam had opened up. Seams can be resewn. if there is a tear or weakness in the skin itself that is usually a sign of age or lack of being kept in cold storage. All the openings were on the seams. The second fur had. a lining that was hanging down some and she thought someone had restitched the lining as it had the type of lining that had some give to it by how it was sewn so there is flexibity when it is worn. This is commonly done in coats. 1 told her the lining could be repressed so the lining would not hang down. She also stated that the fur was matted and had not been properly cleaned and glazed. I told her if she would like it could be done again.
All her concerns Were able to fixed. She stated she did not want to deal with our company and would have her furrier in Las Vegas look at it. I am rather appalled with how she treated her own furs throwing them into her trunk and I don't know how she treats them out of our sight. She sent me appraisal after the first of the year and demanded I turn this into my insurance company and pay her per her letter. Our furrier was out of town for some time and I wanted to discuss this with him as he is the one who cleans and glazes the furs, not us. After reaching him he wanted to see the furs and see what could be done to fix her concerns. Mrs. [redacted] and I did play phone tag and I was out of the office myself during this as well. When we finally did talk l told our furrier wanted to see the furs himself to resolve the situation. She told me she had given them away to Goodwill in Las Vegas. I told her she needed to retrieve her furs if she wanted to resolve this. Our furrier needed to see the furs as would his insurance company if that in fact was where this was going. I do not understand Mrs. [redacted] getting rid of furs while demanding a large sum of money without that cooperation. The furrier has several inspection points as do our company and nobody saw the concerns Mrs. [redacted] is referring to prior to her returning them to us. I do not understand why she treated her furs in that manner either throwing them in her trunk because she was agitated. As I said earlier we have handled many, many furs over the long time our company has been in business, and also under my ownership of 30 years as well. I do not understand why one customer has 2 furs cleaned and glazed and they both have a problem while we store hundreds of other furs every year and I have never had a claim on one fur before. Like I told her she needs have her furs to pursue this with our furrier.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 11, 2016/04/11) */
I just read the response from New City Cleaners and am responding to an inaccurate description of the interaction of the owner and employees. I did not throw my furs in the truck, nor did I act in the agitated manner described. My husband was with me in an SUV and the furs were hung up. If I was in the convertible the truck is the only place they can be put. Most of what he stated in defense is also inaccurate. At no time does he respond to the reference to the pictures taken for proof at the time I brought furs back.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 14, 2016/04/15) */
In order for us to be able to assist her we do need the furs in order to assess them.
