New City Mover Reviews (%countItem)

I have so many issues with this company! First, I paid for a smaller truck to come into the city of Baltimore. According to my driver, that truck broke down and they had a bigger truck. The bigger truck led to them parking at the end of the block, leading to the driver telling me I had to pay for a long haul. The driver scammed me by saying the company would charge me $750, but if I paid HIM $500, he wouldn't tell the company. After calling multiple numbers for NCM, and no one answering, I paid him. Only to find out later the charge would have only been $300.
Second, they were scheduled to be at my house between 8am-1pm. By 1:30, I still had not heard from them. I called NCM and waited to hear what was going on. An hour later, the driver called telling me they'd be there by 3:30. They didn't show up until 4:30!
Third, I had paid for 801 cf. of space. I told the driver not to go over that (knowing when scheduling, we had gone over all of my items and I had them add extra Space on my reservation). By the time they had reached my 800 cf, they hadn't even packed HALF of what was on my manifest! I tried to call New City Movers while the movers were there. I called four different numbers, no one answered and no one returned my calls after I left messages! When having my stuff delivered, I had to have them put it into a storage unit. I had 810 cf taped off, so I could have the movers put all of my items in there. I wanted to see if they really took all that they should. When they were done, It was half empty!
I have called NCM several times. At first I was told I lied about the size of my boxes, so my list was inaccurate. Why would I do that? I need to move! Then they wouldn't let me talk to a supervisor. I was told a manager would call me back
In 7-10 days.....no call. I gave them a third chance, and they said they'd look into and nothing! Stay away from this company!

They lost quite a few of our items, a few things showed up broken, and was charged an extra $2,000.

Aaron was my sales rep and I asked multiple times if I would be charged a shuttle fee because I live on a city block. Aaron assured me I wouldn't be charged because I let him know ahead of time. I also asked Aaron about the hidden fees and he told me because I have a little bit of items I should be ok.

When the movers arrived, he tried to increase my price from 1150 to 3000 saying I have nice and big furniture and it's going to take up space. He also wanted to charge me for packing, which Aaron assures was included in the price. I had to drop furniture off which they say is free, but the mover demanded me to pay in full or the items wouldn't go to the destination. When speaking with the manager she was Very rude and refused to refund my money.

Both Aaron and the mover said I would get my items in 3 days and it's been well over 3 days. When I call, they tell me all of customer service is busy and when I do get customer service they say they're unsure what's going on.

Lastly, when I go to look at my contract online, it's inaccessible. This company is a scam and do a bait and switch operation. The movers are aggressive and try to be demanding. The "manager" is rude and bad for business. You're better off going through a local company. May have to pay more, but it's better than the headache this company will give you.

Company agreed to provide moving service - did not show on original date, alternate date, or determine what date they COULD come. Left high and dry.
New City Movers generated a contract to move my mother from *** on 6/23. Citing mechanical issues with one of their trucks, they informed us that they would not be able to proceed with the move until 6/24. On 6/24 they again informed us that they were unable to complete the agreed upon service. They indicated that they might be able to do it Saturday, but that they were not sure. They offered us a refund.
Because our house closing was on Thursday and we needed to be out of the house and New City Movers was uncertain as to when they could fulfill the contract, we contacted another company and requested a refund in the early morning hours of 6/25.
Later that day we received an email stating that we could request a refund after completing an application procedure and that they would decide within 21 days IF they were going to grant the refund. Part of the refund requires us to complete a notarized NDA.

Desired Outcome

This company was unable to fulfill their contract as agreed upon. Because we were forced to book at the last minute with another moving company, the estimated cost from the cheapest we could find was over twice the amount ($***) quoted by New City Movers. It seems a no-brainer, but the down payment should be refunded and it doesn't seem ethical to require an NDA. Also, we ask that a portion/percentage of the additional cost that was incurred be recovered from NCM for the delayed move after the closing of our property. If NCM had a "truck down" GOOD customer service would have meant renting a truck themselves to honor the contract responsibly. MINIMAL customer service would have been to immediately refund the down payment since THEY were unable to complete the agreement.

Completely unethical company. Quoted a low price then unable to fulfill the contract due to a "truck being down" and unable to determine when they COULD move. Unable to move before the closing of the house!! And when asked for a refund since they were unable to honor the contract, they stated that a request needed to be submitted, they would have 21 days to "consider" IF they would be refunding. If they agreed to refund down payment, A NOTARIZED A NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT WAS REQUIRED!?!?!?!?
Is that even ethical? The RIGHT thing to do when a contract cannot be fulfilled is just to refund the money. No "request," no "NDA" .
Well, maybe the people named in the contract are willing to do so, but I am not. And I will review them as earned. Shady, shady.

Worst moving company ever. High hidden costs and fees, rude driver who rushes you, and driver makes up false claims about distance and size.

This Co. both fraudulently upcharges and adds a "shuttle fee," when the same *** box truck is used for pickup and delivery. Possible scam!
I booked my move over 30 days in advance, to prevent movers coming the day before we were to move out. They broke down on the "scheduled day," and ended up coming on the day before we were scheduled to move out. We had no choice but to continue with them, and any inflated "up charges," were beyond our control.

I was warned about a shuttle fee scam before my items would be delivered, which is exactly what happened. I was charged an extra $***, just to have the SAME *** box truck that was used to pick up my items in , deliver them to my home in ***. Some items were missing, and some were broken. The company gave me a blank inventory sheet, so I have no recourse with regard to my lost and broken items. I did try several times to work out a refund of the shuttle fee with the Company, and they steadfastly refuse. I am being ripped off, and I need to have this money refunded. If you look at this company on "***," and like sites, you will see that this is their MO - Upcharging, and fraudulent shuttle fee charges. These kind of bait-and-switch scams, give all moving companies a bad name! My neighbors were very angry, because one of the movers was smoking marijuana outside in front of my house, which is likely how my items were broken - being carelessly thrown onto the truck, by a stoned Moving Company employee. I wasn't looking to make trouble for this Company, I just want my refund back, for the bogus "shuttle."

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund in the amount of $***, which is what I was billed for a bogus shuttle fee. The Company knows that I'm on to them, they know that I want this shuttle fee refunded, and hopefully, when the Revdex.com contacts them, they will simply issue a refund and be done with it.

Do NOT use this company! The sales team is really good at swaying you with a low cost but when the movers come they use every way they can to double the cost. Their customer service is incompetent and rude leading to a very unprofessional way of doing business. My move from MA to TX was estimated $1300 which turned to $2400 during pickup. When the movers came, they claimed they couldn't fit the truck, walked over 175 feet, and needed a bigger truck to transport my stuff. They only showed up once (also were 5 hours late), parked the truck literally a doorway over, and I personally moved all of my stuff from the third floor to the entrance way to make it easier for them. They also will take their time delivering your stuff and never give you a solid estimate when things arrive. It's been a week for me and I still haven't received my stuff. When you call you go through 3 different people, if your lucky, to get to someone saying they don't know when you'll get your stuff. It's up to the guys delivering your stuff.

Long story short, these guys are scammers and will take as much money as they can from you with your stuff as collateral. Drive it yourself or use a more reliable service.

Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT hire this company for your move. Don't be fooled with the good looking website and the pleasant salesman. Once they have your business they treat you like you're not even a customer. They didn't pick up half of the stuff we agreed on and we are still waiting for them to deliver our stuff. It's been almost a week. They are avoiding our phone calls and when they pick up are very unpleasant. They will say well you didn't read the fine prints of your contract; so it's your fault.

This company is practicing shady, dishonest, and misleading practices that led to them bleeding their customers

Sales Rep: Arron ***
Customer Service Rep: Tina and her manager (Never got a name)
Reference number: ***
Date range: June 1st - time of complaint

Booked a move with New City Movers for June 1st. This is when the movers notified me of a $*** charge. He said I would be able to get a discount if I called. This was the first sign of shady practices, because they do this so often that a discount is already expected. I spoke to Tina who told me I will no longer be able to speak to Aaron who was the only person thus far I was familiar with, another sign of a *** and *** business. She indeed gave me the discount and I was only charged $*** and was told I will get my stuff delivered on the same day.

Once the movers left and I arrived at my final destination I waited for hours before calling again wondering where my things are. This is when they told me I will not be getting my stuff delivered the same day and if I wanted to get my stuff I had to cancel my check and wire them my full balance. I do so on that same day June 1st. This is when they tell me I won't be getting my stuff until two days later, which is fine with me at this point I just want my belongings. Tuesday night I get a call from Tina saying I have a new balance of $*** before I could get my stuff back.

At this point the red flags are slapping me in the face and I realized I paid over double my original estimate. This entire time Tina and her manager are *** and *** and will yell at me over the phone and put me on hold indefinietly until either of them were ready to speak to me again. Which only burned more daylight hours further ensuring I would not be receiving my stuff that day in hopes of bleeding me for more money. This complaint is due to the foul treatment I received from the Customer Service reps and their repugnant business practices by snaring customers with a low quote and % lower price guaranteed of any other quote I would get when in reality these *** will cost me more than any other company I could have gone with.

Desired Outcome

First and foremost I want an apology from both Customer Service reps. I would also like to be refunded any money above the final $*** agreed upon at the pick up location before they were able to hold my belongings ransom.

The binding estimate for my move was $***, but when the movers came, they adjusted the rate to $***, because they said I had more stuff.
When I called for an estimate of moving costs, the person on the phone asked about all my furniture and boxes. I told him about the furniture as accurately as I could, but I wasn't able to say exactly how many boxes I would have. I guessed about fifty, and I asked if there would be a problem if there were more. He said they would charge a minimal amount for extra volume, so I went with the deal. When the movers arrived, they said I had more than would fit in the truck, and would come back with an empty truck the next day. The next morning, I received a call telling me the cost had gone up to over $*** because my furniture was larger than anticipated. I argued, and we finally agreed on a cost of $***, because with everything packed up, and a closing date impending, it was too late for me to contact other movers for estimates. I understand that with Covid-19, they are not sending people to make estimates in person, but I had to wonder if they were taking advantage of the Covid-19 situation, increasing the cost at the time of picking up the furniture.

Desired Outcome

I am willing to pay $*** which is double the original binding estimate. SI would like a refund of $***.

My experience with New City Movers *** has been nothing short of a nightmare from day 1. My initial estimate from their relocation specialist was $1300 based on 401 cubic feet of items to be moved. At the conclusion of this moving nightmare ( 12 days after pickup), my final invoice came to over double the original estimate. The new total came to $2702. I strongly urge anyone doing business with this company to read every word of the contract and expect to pay a $600 minimum charge for a shuttle truck on both the pickup and delivery ends of the move. Do not believe any verbal agreement by any company representative, as it is totally ignored by management. If your residence can not handle a 55-foot tractor trailer and you inform your "Relocation Specialist" of this issue minutes after you have signed the contract and sent a deposit check and he says "I just requested a small truck for pick up so everything is all set. Thank you again" do not take that to mean he isn't going to charge you a $1400 total shuttle truck fee. Also, Watch the number of steps, your allowed 7 steps on pickup and no steps on the delivery side. Extra fees and hidden fees, will be charged. The lack of communication from this company was terrible. I was informed of a 9am to 11am delivery the day following pickup. My wife and I took vacation and drove 7 hours to help my daughter move in based on this information. After 11am on the day they were supposed to arrive, I called customer service, they didn't bother to let me know they were not showing up. The only information from them was "an unexpected event occurred and they couldn't tell me when I could expect my things. I could go on but I hope you get the picture. Do yourself a favor and find someone else to move your things.

I have never been met with such disrespect from a company. I spoke with leonn, got an estimate, it seemed perfect. What they don't tell you is that there are a bunch of extra charges that are not discussed on the initial phone call. we tweaked the estimate a few times but he assured us that the price would be locked in. Once the movers arrived they were unprofessional. *** I called the customer service number and asked to speak with Leonn. I was then told that he wasn't available and that Kelly would call me back. Kelly called back and was very disrespectful, she yelled at me and put me on a hold. When she comes back to the phone she asked if I had cooled down yet. Once I explained to her that I was upset she said that I had cursed her out. That's not what happened. she threatened to have the movers leave and that we wouldn't receive our deposit back and hung up. Once we called her back she told the movers to leave, and proceeded to hang up again. They never returned our calls and kept the 500 dollars. They misrepresented themselves and had no compassion for what they had done. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Have moved with New City Mover twice and both times found them extremely professional, timely and effective.

Just moved from NE to SF and we moved our whole life. The Manager delivered and made sure to ask for pictures of anything that was broken so he could handle the reporting.

We had something like 100 boxes and they only slight hiccup was our dining table came 5 days later, without much hassle for us.

Thanks guys!

The Manager was helped me move some boxes at my place to move to his storage center. Reasons why I would recommend New City Mover:

1. Service - they pick up, shrink wrap, carry, and put your items into their storage crates at their main location. They even pack your boxes although that wasn't needed on my side.

2. Customer service - as you can read from the reviews their customer service is easily the best. I contacted 5 of the top reviewed places on Revdex.com and I went with the one that had the highest and the one I was recommended by (also for New City Mover). The Manager was really chill and hospitable. No frills. No hard sell. He takes a more consultative approach and gives you his honest advice.

3. Location - called in the morning and had a scheduled time a few hours later. Now,I don't have a lot of stuff (8 good size crates/boxes) but having the storage center within NE made things very easy on my decision.

4. Price - For the quality, I would've easily paid double of what I'm paying. (I hope they don't read this part haha). Their pricing is very easy and simple and from what I've seen, more economical than the rest of their main competitors. plus, we get all of the benefits from 1-3 too.

I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND the manager and his company's services to you and to all of the people I know.

This company really is aptly named. Owner and estimator came out and spent a lot of time answering questions and giving advice for a smooth and efficient move. Followed up quickly on emails. He gave me a great estimate range and when we were done the price was right there.

Can't say enough good things about the four guys who came out. Very hard working and efficient, but not carelessly so; they took the necessary time to wrap furniture well and load and unload carefully. Secondly, they were really nice guys in general. Polite, easy to talk to and professional.

This was my best and hopefully last moving experience for a while. Glad to end on a good note. Thanks again New City Mover.

I was very pleased to deal with this company.
They respond quickly. They had a last moment slot available (I was reserving a couple of days before moving.)
They did a great job and charged much less than other companies I called to.
They have a minimum of 2 movers for 2 hours versus other companies where I called who have minimum of 3 mover for 3 hours.
In my case New City Mover did the job in 2 hours, so I'd obviously pay for nothing if I dealt with those other companies.

Great value for money! Recommended!

So this is the second time I've used New City Mover and I couldn't be happier!
They do such a great job, super fast, efficient & friendly.
They even help reassembling a chair in my apartment, they didn't even move in.
Plus they helped get a very wide couch through a very narrow door and set it up for me.
They are straight up the best movers in the Bay!!

New City Moves is the best all around moving and storage that I have ever used. There were on time when they arrived, and they took great care with my furniture loading and unloading from the truck. I am also a customer of New City Moves facilities in Lincoln. The Manager and his staff are professional and helpful in all matters pertaining to my business. I recommend them completely.
